I'd give it, I would agree it's a muscle up but because it is so light to him he doesn't really need to put much effort into it, hence barely any hip movement.
Mr. K and his hombres, it's a good lift :D
I guess your right, i actually tried a 100kg Full Clean (clean and front squat) just before it and i failed (injuring my wrist, still healing it now :S). So when trying for the powerclean afterwards i was a little hesitant in a way, about getting power into it, hip drive and catching the bar, ducking a bit lower etc. I can try again in a few weeks time (not trying 100kg full clean though for a long time).
Believe it or not the way you're lifting in that video is waaaaay more stressful on your body than doing a clean properly. I'll try and get up to you guys in Raw soon actually and we can do a session.
Just curious (and forgive my ignorance), what is the difference between a normal powerclean and 'muscle up' clean? I thought a muscle up was done on the Olympic Rings? :D. Im gathering it may be the same as what you said to Cardio?
Ok, I hope I explain this right...

When you clean, the bar comes off the floor, arms locked, shoulders over the bar. The bar travels upwards in a straight line, once you get to mid-thigh level your hip drive speeds the bar up - it maintains its straight trajectory. Arms start to bend elbows outwards, bar gets shrugged further upwards and just after it reaches mid-torso level... that's when the magic happens. At this point momentum takes over i.e. you've put enough power behind the bar that it's travelling upwards with force allowing you to drop underneath it in time to catch it on the downwards motion.

So, a clean is when you pull the bar up with force and drop underneath it to catch it.

A muscle up however doesn't have that power or that momentum. It starts out the same way, bar is pulled off the floor, hips get behind it, but this time instead of driving the bar up far enough to drop, your upper body strength takes over and when it reaches mid-torso you reverse curl/ muscle up the bar for the remainder of the movement.

The difference between the two is essentially power output. In a muscle up there's little/none, in a power clean there's oodles.

I thought a muscle up was done on the Olympic Rings? :D.
It is too, or can be done on a straight chinup bar. First time I heard of the other muscle up was a week or so ago. The Iron Cross is another exercise on rings, but again only a week or so ago I heard somebody calling a leg exercise an iron cross.

Seems to be a lot of different names for the same thing, and the same name for different things too.

    Pull-ups

    Bodyweight: 90kg. Reps: 18

    Powerclean

    Bodyweight: 90kg. Weight: 100kg. Sinclair: 115.954

    Dips

    Bodyweight: 90kg. Reps: 25

    Thanks g'em/d-gal.

Michael, I've added them all. You dropped 14kg since you last posted a video? That was like not even 3 months ago?

You need to have words with your camera-person so that you have an accurate number in the table for the pull ups. Good work!

I was in Japan for 5 weeks over the summer, lots of travelling around (walking and cycling) and eating alot of Japanese food so i dropped almost 2 stone :D. Dropped alot of strength also, but im almost back to my original numbers at around this weight. Plus my waist is 31 inches and im 11.5% bodyfat so im the leanest iv been ever but iv still got a decent solid build. So in some ways, going away was one of the best things to happen training wise :D

It may have been 18 reps for the pull-ups but i remember counting myself while doing so and hitting 20. Ah sure its no bother, always next time to get more reps :). Cheers boss

well did 56, bodyweight 90kg, Looking at the video, i think my range of motion is a bit limited, :(

Was thinking whether if i should or shouldn't post it up. I decided what the heck! Me deadlifting 210kg on Saturday using only chalk and from a plate deficit (more ROM, don't ask :D). First time Deadlifting over 200kg in a long time, not the best form wise but im happy, particularly pulling it at a much lower bodyweight.

Bodyweight: 88-90kg. Im unsure on weight, i think im lighter but the scales in the gym is broke so ill leave it at 90kg.

    Wilks: 134.064

That's the thing. The first 18 reps were great then there were groups of good and bad reps. Should I just count the good ones?

I'll count them too. Just don't want to me making a sole decision and treading on jayoo's dreams :pac:

edit - ok I just counted them and to be honest the quality isn't great but this particular challenge isn't the olympics. Push ups aren't as clear cut as the powerlifts, etc.

I'd give jayoo 50 reps. Yay or nay?

I don't actually know if I'm supposed to be judging these, but the left arm doesn't look locked out and your feet should be parallel instead of staggered. If my opinion counts!

All input welcomed, and i see the mistakes you have pointed out.
I think any more i will post vids in my log and then ask some opinions before posting here, keep getting shot down :(:D;).

I will def have another shot at this sometime soon

Haha I can't be sure if the left arm was locked cos oyu're wearing a long sleeve tee, but it doesn't look it.

The foot thing's a bit dodge tho... you're putting yourself in a bit of a dangerous position doing them that way!!

Looks like there's loads of strength there, just needs some refinement!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,234 ✭✭✭Edwardius

Haha, thanks Cardio. I'm rarely back home so I usually have to do a spot of light improvising (And my regular gym doesn't allow any video cams). I'd be a lot happier with the back squat if I had another 40kgs on the bar though!

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Love the owl in the foreground of the squat vid, Ed!

    Both added.

Following that interesting pull up vid angle I have added one more rule to the pull ups --> Both feet and head must be visible in the video i.e no standing on chairs.

Since this rule wasn't in there your vid is fine.

Do trap bar deadlifts count? If so then it was a good lift.

The 130 bench was good, ass might have come up but can't tell with the baggy tracksuits. Since you nearly died on the next rep I think you deserve to be given it!
