I am getting sick of the myth that all ex racer cannot be trusted around small dogs.

Morag (racing name Pathfinder) came to me in a pretty bad state and went to her new home in Germany a while back. I had assessed her here and was absolutely sure that she could live with small dogs. All the GH experts around here shook their heads and called me crazy.

I've got more Morag pics today from her adopters in Germany. She really landed on her paws ;). I rarely rehome outside of Ireland but this one was a good decision, plus, I've got backup in Germany so she wont be stuck in the unlikely event that she will have to come back:

That's a really lovely story EGAR. I'm delighted it all worked out so well. Morag really looks like she's enjoying her new home :)

Great pictures, especially the last one. Have you considered putting them up on the Animals Ireland website along with the story to encourage people to adopt GH? It might be worth a shot.

GH are actually very affectionate dogs, I think people are afraid of them because they do look a bit mad when they are racing!

Gorgeous dogs though, my friend has a few & I couldn't praise them enough.

Just had another thought. Why don't you go to a few newspapers, both national & regional, with this story?

We've all read about the abuse cases & I sometimes feel people ignore it because it's an abuse story, that they flick the page without reading the horror endured by the abused animal. It's a similar thing to people flicking channels on the tv when an ad comes on about starving kids - if they don't see it it doesn't happen.

So I think this success story is definately news worthy. It's the kind of thing that would cheer you up by reading it & hopefully encourage people to be more open minded about GH as a pet.

We adopted a Grey a few weeks ago - a spooky little girl from MJ down in Orchard Greyhound Sanctuary. She is just fabulous, a wonderul pet and very low maintenance in terms of dog owning!
I should mention we have two cats! She ignores them/is probably scared of them! They are facinated by her and sneak up to have a sniff of her, lose interest when se doesn't react and walk away!
It's totally possible to cat socialise grehound depending on their prey instinct - little Peanut had no chase in her which is why we took her!

really lovely story and the pics are class :D
Shame GH's have such bad reputation as pets considering they make such good ones
Love the third pic, little terrier looks like little character! Morag looks in great condition now as well

    Well Done Egar :D
