Anyone else see this ? Live out in the IFSC, and saw it from my balcony this morning at about 7.50am over what appeared to the the direction of Sandymount. Initially thought it was a plane, but was definetly a rocket going up. Wierd

Looks like some sort of flare. Was it anywhere near water?

OP, you should have rang the coast guard since it was obviously out in the bay.

I guess its not too late, esp. since you have a decent photo of the event.

White Distress Flare can indicate a risk of a collision between two boats. Any flare from the sea I would recommend calling the Coast Guard immediately with as accurate as possible a location. Better to call than to assume someone else will.

A freind of mine made a rocket from a car exhaust pipe and a load of homemade propellant. It was about four feet long including teh stabilising rod and he had shotgun shells in the nose of it which were meant to explode when the rocket reached its zeenith.
The problem was,he didnt make teh exhaust hole big enough and the thing exploded.
We were in the racecourse in baldoyle when he lit it and it set of alarms all over the area and i was deaf for a day afterwards.
he got his father to drive us to the place where he let it off and his father heard the bang and seriously thought we'd been blown up.

Its almost impossible to fly rockets in the Dublin area at the moment because of the airport. - simple was more likely a flare being set off. - think we should move the airport!!
