Alright, which one of you fools asked about studying Literary Genre? :P

Was a good show today. Brian Mooney speaks so much sense. Eddie Hobbs officially gave teachers and parents a big middle finger on behalf of all the students under pressure from the two as well.

I wasn't particularly happy with the texts they read out though. They all seemed to be based on stuff you could have been told in the class room. There was the literary genre one, there was someone who asked did a short story have to be answered in third person. Seriously?

All in all though. A good show and a bit of a relief in some sense. I was told 4 points in the comprehension minimum, whereas the Institute teacher said 3. Likewise with the poems.

That stat about the short story being the most difficult to get an A1 in surprised me a bit, mind. I would have thought with it's popularity it would be the one that most get the A1 in.

3 points for the 15 mark questions and 4 points for the 20 mark question is what we were told.

    any predictions with her.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,229 ✭✭✭pathway33

    any predictions with her.

    1. For Higher level, concentrate on stuff that hasn't been asked in 06 07 or 08

    2. everybody thinks an essay on recession will be up but she thinks it won't be so clear cut and the essay will be more about poverty which is a wider issue than the recession

    3. another essay might be on the irish language and it's comeback

    Re: Higher level

she said the irish syllabus goes on a 5 or 6 year cycle. The current cycle started in 2006 and is due to end in 2011. So if poems have not been asked in 06, 07 and 08 it's likely one of them (that wasn't asked) will be up in 09. She said 'the examiner tends not to repeat himself'. You'll have to check the podcast for the exact quote
