Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Figured it was about time we started a fresh thread for this, the other one has drifted so far back it's past the limits of my clicky patience. So without further ado ...

Both taken in Mount Usher gardens in Wicklow on sunday. Click for bigger. Years since I've been there. Gorgeous place. Although actually I -do- remember years ago being able to walk through the house in the middle of the gardens. Or am I just imagining things ??

    Portra 160nc. Helios 44-2.

Wow Daire, that 1st image is brilliant, and there's a sh1t load of bokeh aswell ! :p
Are the other images (while very nice) bokeh ? or are they 'out-of-focus' or 'dept-of-field' pics ? I still get confused ! :o

@ daire - the moment i saw it i guessed that was the lens or nikkor 1.2.... amazing bokeh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,071 ✭✭✭dakar

@Morriseeeee. Depends on your definition of bokeh. If you define it as circular blobs of light generated by OOF specular highlights (and a lot of people take this view) then, no. If you take the original Japanese translation, it refers more to the 'quality' of the blur in the OOF areas (indefinable as this 'quality' can be) and doesn't necessarily have to include specular highlights.

    Take your pick! :)

As for bokeh, you can Google that, I'm getting weary of arguing (sorry discussing :D) about what it is!

google isnt very reliable for this definition

Maybe we should split this into HBBW (Happy Blobby Bokeh Wednesday) and HnBBW (Happy non-Blobby Bokeh Wednesday threads! :)

    Fixed your post!

In fairness it doesn't really bother me. It's only a word and doesn't indicate whether an image is any good or not. Whatever makes the individual happy is good enough for me!

Yeah that helios goes a bit loco all right. I tend to shoot with it in mind, I may have overdone it a bit on the first one :D As Thonda says on the image comments, it actually makes you a bit nauseous looking at it.

Buzz - I am missing a little more contrast in the picture. It looks a little flat. Could you get more from the colour original (for me, please)?
