What does it mean when you wake up either from a nap or nights sleep with swollen fingers. Its getting uncomfortable now and they take ages to go down.
Im not looking for a medical opinion mods, its not painful or anything like that.

having swollen fingers after sleeping is definately going to be a medical issue and i dont think anything anyone can say in the "sleeping and dreaming" forum is going to change that. see your doc.

To give a med student's opinion.

    1. Heart failure is a little unlikely if the OP is young. More like the patients BP is falling a little too low during sleep and so he's getting peripheral odema, which is accumilation of fluid in the tissues. Due to the low BP, blood is not returning back to heart fast enough, decreased venous return, the blood is "pooling" around in the peripheral regions of the body, due to this the blood exerts pressure on the capillaries, fluid from the blood transfers into the tissues through the capillaries causing odema.

Now there could be a few reasons for this. Heart failure could be one, but if the person is young its very unlikely. Another thing could be raised parasympathetic activity slowly down the heart rate during sleep lowering blood pressure.

    2. The OP would be in serious pain if he had kidney stones.
    3. The OP would know by this stage if he had sickle cell anaemia.

So yeah, its most probably something to do with the heart.
It shouldn't be anything too serious. But at the same time shouldn't be taken lightly.

So OP go to your GP and speak to him about it.

    Thromboembolism?
Which is blood clots forming in blood vessels. Its not a good thing as they can block the vessels and restrict blood flows to certain parts of the body damaging it. Its a serious problem.

But if you had that you'ld feel pain in your legs (calf area especially cuz thats where they usually occur) or pain in some other part of your body (wherever it is). You'ld also feel pain if you had peripheral arterial disease which is linked to high cholestrol and can block the blood vessels. Thrombus and artheroma (due to the arterial disease) can cause peripheral odema. But you'll also feel pain in your arms or legs usually.

Anyway, enough of medicine. The GP should be able to manage to figure out if everything is fine with ya.
    It shouldn't be too bad.

I often find I have trouble taking rings off in the morning due to fingers being a bit swollen, but it's simply due to heat. My hands would often get very warm during the night causing slight swelling.

Head along to your GP if you're concerned.
