    Hi There,

I'm currently building a simple web application. I would like to focus my efforts on the design and development of the functionality as opposed to the styling of the page..

    i.e. More PHP/MySQL than HTML/CSS.

Is there any site where I can get themes or styles for web applications? I know there are loads of these sites for websites e.g. CSS Zen garden..etc..!

It doesn't need to be over the top just needs to look some way professional, you know yourself.

OR: Would it be better to just take the time to design my own theme and use that in any future apps I build?

    Thanks..

With out going in to detail or you building your app on top of another platform bases (wordpress, jooomla etc). Then there is many free design out that you could tweak to your needs.

Trying to tweak themes can break them and render un-expected results.

If application is going to be commercial, you would be better off paying some one to develop a theme for it or partner up with a friend who can design the theme for you.

You could use a free theme but highlight that this is just a beta release.

For an example of things going wrong have a look at this thread.

Thanks for the link, your page looks pretty good!

I'm not going to be building on any existing application..it's all going to be from scratch.

Its a simple application that haulage by different hauliers. I want to be able to add records: product, haulier etc.

Then just display different stats/results on a page.

I'm simply looking for a nice layout with some decent styles for text, buttons, headings etc.

What do you mean about Beta release and other peoples themes? Is there not free themes that I can use as long as I provide credit where it's due?

    Thanks..

EDIT: Do you know of any sites that specialise in application themes as opposed to general fancy website/blog themes?Thanks..

As your building from scratch and I would need to know more about your app to actually recommend a theme. In the end, you would probably find it quicker and easier to develop your theme. You will know what you want and how to display. There is good guides on CSS/HTML available see click here to get you started. If I come across more i will tag them with the same tag.

    Beta?
If your selling your app or intended to, you could release a version free for testing purpose's to your potential customer's (That may not look fully professional). eg Windows 7 was available as beta and now RC.

What application are you using to code the application?

Instead of building completely from scratch, there may be a similar Open Source application that you could tweak to your need's and it would come with themes?

    J.

Yeh, tried google but it mainly threw up general themes.. Then I googled for things along the lines of "web application layout tutorial" etc..

@GaryCocs: I'll have a look through and see if there's anything there.. I'll let you know.. Greatly appreciated, thanks!!
