Looking at a few bit for a mate, budget ~€750. Any opinions on the below and ideas where to find a €50 saving? Anything less on the proc or graphics is a bit of a drop.

Chances are it'll be Komplett or HWV unless anyone points out something cheaper.

Edit: scrap that IDE Optical, SATA instead obviously.

    Cheers~

A cheaper version of the same Graphics card perhaps?

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=439020

Saphire HD 4850 512 is 99 Euro on Komplete, missing a few extra bells and whistles if you can live without them, I am sure it is even cheaper on HWS (Actually looking again the Gainward is more expensive than Komplett so maybe not)

Wrong RAM specified. You need 2x2GB DDR2. You've listed 2x1GB DDR3. That won't even fit in your motherboard :o

The Sapphire Value HD4850 is cheap as chips and even Tom's in their nVidia-sponsored rabidness was forced to admit its a mad overclocker. They had it at 740/2380MHz in the last budget rig... plus even under OC it has some neato power states for 2D work - runs at 160/500MHz idle, at which point its passive and uses practically no juice. And unlike some rivals it doesn't bork up switching from one p-state to the other in a hurry :P

Unlees you're anti-OC you could probably drop down to a E8400, even then CPU is pretty hefty...

And why the Soprano? Aside from the pretty front case door its not much better than a CM Elite RC330 for over €40 less...

Well spotted - had specced a DDR3 mobo but never swapped out the RAM :P

Rig is for a 16yo who wouldn't have a clue how to OC, so looking for something user-friendly (will build it myself for him).

Cheers, will take a look at the €99 card - noticed that allright about Komplett pricing, getting nice and competitive of late on a few things.

Maybe you could set the OC for him while you build ;)

I'm not suggesting any crazy "Let's try to set a new 3DMark record" settings though :p
