Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm sure if you were to encounter a garda on your way home and explained the situation re:tax he would understand. You probably would have to present the new tax disc at your local garda station within a week or two. Just be sure that you're insured, thats the only statutory requirement, the other two you can get away with to an extent.:pac:

The answer is no you cannot.

If you are buying from a dealer insist on a valid NCT or no sale.

    +1

You would be driving illegally, which means that if you come across the wrong Garda, they will do you for it.

As well as that, If you happen to be in an accident, it is not going to do you any favours not having an NCT Certificate for the car.

..and 5 (I think) penalty points for no NCT.

Not being smart, but he is hardly going to tell you that its not going to pass the NCT!

My experience with the NCT is that nobody can really tell whether a car is going to pass or not. The ways its gone, its as if cars are passed and failed at random! (An exageration, but you know what I mean).

I am wondering why the dealer hasn't NCT'ed the car already considering he is so confident it will pass, If it were me, I would much prefer to be trying to sell a car with rather than without an NCT Certificate. Why not tell him that you want it NCT'ed before you buy it?

Ive been given a Mondeo to drive with no tax or NCT. I just got it yesterday. I went to the Gardai to get the RF100 stamped and they told me unofficially to wait until next Tuesday to tax it. The tax is only out 6 weeks.
I asked the Garda about NCT and he said as long as I have a test date I would be fine. Its booked in for 1st October ..!
I got the insurance sorted last Tuesday but all I have is a ropey cover note. No windscreen disc yet....

The Garda was a really nice bloke and told me if im stopped keep the RF100 in the car along with the NCT confirmation e-mail and cover note and calmly explain that I just got the car. He said unless I get a total b**lbag I would be grand...! ;)
