    Hi just a quick question.

What is the purpose of the filter which you use between wall connection and normal phone cable which you have to connect to each phone when setting up broadband, and what will happen if you set up a broadband modem (eircom) without these.

    Just curious! Thanks!!!!!

Filter are used to filter interference from phones and other devices on your line that interfere with the performance of your broadband. DSL uses higher frequencies than required by your normal phone service, but if unfiltered this can interfere with the DSL frequencies.

Anyway check these links out for a better explanation:

    http://www.epanorama.net/documents/telecom/adsl_filter.html

If you set up a broadband connection without one it will decrease the performance of your broadband and your connection may start dropping, that's if you can get a connection at all without the filter. If you do not have any other phones, sky boxes, eircom alarms, etc. connected to your phone line throughout the house then you wouldn't notice much difference.
