    Hi,

just had a conversation with a buddy today about our favourite lyric ever and was just wondering what people on here would choose as their favourite lyric? Like what one lyric struck a chord with you, made you smile or just cause it was so good you remembered it?

Anyway my most recent one was Bell X1's Great Defector "Your the chocolate at the end of my, Cornetto", thought it was brilliant!

So would love to hear peoples choices!!

Also sorry if this was done before or anything similar to it!!:D

Pretty sure this was done already but who cares, it's fun! :D

Tom Waits - Tom Traubert's Blues - "I've lost my St.Christopher, now that I've kissed her"

Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run - "The highway's filled with broken heroes, on a last chance power drive"

John Prine - Angel From Montgomery - "If dreams were lightning, and thunder were desire, this old house would've burned down, a long time ago"

The Police - Don't Stand So Close To Me - "He starts to shake and cough, just like the, old man in, that book by Nabakov"

Shortest list I could possibly do, there's just so many!!

you'll never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
god only knows what I'll be without you .

Each to their own but you cant get more simple than that

"Split your lungs with blood and thunder
When you see the white whale
Break your backs and crack your oars men
    If you wish to prevail

This ivory leg is what propels me
    Harpoons thrust in the sky
Aim directly for his crooked brow
And look him straight in the eye

Hands down it has to be:

    Spinal Tap:Big Bottoms.

"My baby suits me like a flesh tuxedo, I'm gonna sink her with my pink torpedo."

No line in all of music is funnier I think! :p

Oh so many. Here's a snippet of a few:

This because it's so true. So many thrive on sniping, bitching, back stabbing. It takes strength to be a decent person -

The Smiths "It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate/It takes guts to be gentle and kind" (I Know It's Over)

In live concerts Bowie often alters this line to be:
"Who wants to be alive when they're twenty-five" (All the Young Dudes)

"Oh I look at my watch it says 9.25 and I think 'Oh God, I'm still alive'" (Time)

Arctic Monkeys "That Bloody Mary's lacking a Tabasco" (Florescent Adolescent) (people look back on the past with rose tinted specs and forget. The Tabasco would be adding the sour in. I fink that's what it means)

    Tool - Schism

"cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion... between supposed lovers"*

I think the build up to, and delivery of this lyric is immense.

*Watch from 4mins onwards, or preferably the whole video (if you're mildly interested or bored :))

    or

    And i toyed with you
    and you toyed with me
    can we stop it please
    (Ryan adams These Girls)

    or

I guess by the dim light in your eyes
and to you all things come as a surprise
i should set the steel trap of your thighs
    and dive right in
(Two gallants Despite what you've been told.

And did they get you to trade
    Your heros for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
    And did you exchange

For a lead role in a cage?

christ, I could reel off loads but two just popped into my head now.. First one, it's from 'You Oughta Know' by Alanis Morissette.

'Did you forget about me, Mr Duplicity ? I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner. It was a slap in the face how quickly I was replaced, and are u thinkin of me when u fcuk her?' very very clever, she really goes to psycho-nasty town on that but it's great

Second one that came into my head is from Gang Of Four's 'I Love A Man In Uniform'.

'To have ambition was my ambition but I had nothing to show for my dreams'. Just makes me laugh.

Also love this line from NWA's 'Express Yourself'

I'm expressin' with my full capabilities
And now I'm livin' in correctional facilities

prices like that make a grown man holler,
'specially when it's sold by a kid who's only fifteen."

"I knew a girl named Nikki, I guess you could say she was a sex fiend.
I met her in a hotel lobby masturbating with a magazine."
    Darling Nikki - Prince

"I punched his lights out and stole his dough.
I bought some heroin and brought it to school,
I don't know how I'm so unbelievably cool."
