Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey,

Does anyone know what its like in the UK? Im looking at an 06' A3 for £8,800 in one of those giant car supermarkets they have over there.

If paying cash does anyone have any idea what i could expect to haggle him down to?

    Cheers.

Why bother going to the UK at all?

There might be greater choice of vehicles over there but factor in exchange rate, VRT and travel expenses and not many cars are cheaper over there now. Plus you'll have no warranty, they wont take your trade-in and discounts over here are far greater than in the UK. Just ring around here before you travel ;)

I'm moving over to England in June so buying a car when i get there so wont have VRT or that! But you think the discount arent as great over there anyway do you?

The discounts do tend to be less over there than here but then again if you're moving over there then happy days....who cares :P

There is very little if any haggling in the UK car supermarkets, they price them low in comparison to dealers and sell in volume. Small enough margins, they push warranty products and paint protection products as there are large margins to be made on these. The likes of the autoglym life shine paint protection is about £300 but the kits costs about £20 on ebay ;)

Car supermarkets in Britain wont drop the price at all in my experience.
You pay the advertised price ( and an admin charge too!).

Car supermarkets in the UK are like food supermarkets. The price displayed is the price you pay plus their administrator fee of course. Their cars tend to be priced cheaper than dealerships to begin with however. So if the car you are looking at is advertised at £8,800 then that is what they will want for it.

Regular car dealers however tend to price their cars close to what they actually want for them. You may get a couple of hundred pounds off at best.
