Monday, 3 June, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Rather dry across the south, but near average rainfall (Tuesday to Thursday will bring most of it) across the north; about half of average in central counties (same timing). Temperatures will fall 2 to 3 deg below normal by Tuesday and will only recover slowly by about a week from today. Sunshine will become less frequent and it will be quite cloudy in northern counties.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be cloudy with a few sunny breaks in southern and central counties, with drizzle possible in parts of the north, highs 14 to 17 C.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy to overcast, showers and gusty westerly winds sweeping into northern and later central counties, lows 7 to 10 C.

TUESDAY will become very breezy (west-northwest 50-70 km/hr), and cool with showers or brief intervals of rain. These (including earlier overnight falls) will bring 10-15 mm of rain to north, about 5 mm in central counties, but only trace amounts to 2 mm in south. Highs 13 to 16 C, coolest in Ulster.

WEDNESDAY will be partly cloudy to overcast and cool, with a few outbreaks of light rain, lows 7 to 10 C, highs 13 to 16 C.

THURSDAY will continue cloudy with a few showers and cool, lows near 7 C and highs near 15 C.

FRIDAY and SATURDAY will continue partly cloudy and cool in a northerly breeze, lows 5 to 7 C and highs 14 to 17 C. It could be a touch warmer in parts of the south.

By SUNDAY of next weekend, a sunny and warmer interval will develop (20-23 C), and could persist for about three days, but eventually an unsettled regime will replace that. Forecasts keep changing and the latest twist is actually an improved outlook for next week (10-14 June) but as there are such frequent changes I am not too confident about a prolonged warmup yet.

My local weather on Sunday was overcast with rain developing during the afternoon, highs near 17C. A Pacific storm system is bringing a significant rainfall to all regions of B.C. and will last about two days, followed by a gradual warming trend and eventually hot and dry weather for us by end of the week.

Tuesday, 4 June, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Rather dry across the south, but over 50% of average rainfall (Tuesday to Thursday will bring most of it) across the north; about a quarter of average in central counties (same timing). Temperatures will fall 2 to 3 deg below normal and will only recover slowly by about a week from today. Sunshine will become less frequent and it will be quite cloudy in northern counties. Sunshine will likely recover to normal values by weekend and early next week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will become very breezy (west-northwest 50-70 km/hr), and cool with showers or brief intervals of rain. These (including earlier overnight falls) will bring 10-15 mm of rain to north, about 5 mm in central counties, but only trace amounts to 2 mm in south. Highs 13 to 16 C, coolest in Ulster.

TONIGHT will continue breezy, with a few passing showers, and chilly with lows 4 to 7 C.

WEDNESDAY will be partly cloudy to overcast and cool, with a few outbreaks of light rain, and highs 13 to 16 C.

THURSDAY will continue cloudy with a few showers and cool, lows near 7 C and highs near 15 C.

FRIDAY variable cloud, showers, cool, lows near 7 C and highs near 15 C.

SATURDAY will continue partly cloudy and cool in a northerly breeze, lows 5 to 7 C and highs 14 to 17 C. It could be a touch warmer in parts of the south. Showers will be isolated and confined to parts of the north-central counties.

By SUNDAY of next weekend, a sunny and warmer interval will develop (20-23 C), and could persist for about three to five days, but eventually an unsettled regime will replace that.

My local weather on Monday was overcast with a heavy and persistent rainfall that ended before late afternoon when it cleared from the west; chilly with highs only 14 or 15 C. About 25-50 rainfalls across the region.

Wednesday, 5 June, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Rather dry across the south, but showery rainfall in central and northern counties, although totals not likely to exceed 50% of normal). Temperatures will be 2 to 3 deg below normal and will only recover slowly by early next week. Sunshine will become less frequent and it will be quite cloudy in northern counties. Sunshine will likely recover to normal values by weekend and early next week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy to overcast and breezy (west to northwest 40 to 60 km/hr) and cool, with a few outbreaks of light rain, locally heavy showers with hail possible in parts of Connacht and west Ulster, highs 13 to 16 C.

TONIGHT will be less breezy, with a few passing showers, and chilly with lows 4 to 7 C.

By SUNDAY, partly cloudy, it now appears possible that showers will redevelop as high pressure lingers further west, but likely also more sunshine will eventually develop at least in central and southern counties, lows 5 to 7 C and highs 15 to 19 C.

A partly cloudy to sunny and somewhat warmer interval will develop early next week (18-21 C), and could persist for about three to five days, but with some unsettled intervals as weak fronts develop.

My local weather on Tuesday was overcast with a low cloud base just above us obscuring views of even lower hills nearby, but other than spots of drizzle it was dry, with highs around 15 C. We are looking forward to a much warmer end to the week and a hot weekend (could be in low 30s here).

Thursday, 6 June, 2024 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Rather dry across the south, but showery rainfall in central and northern counties, although totals around 50% to 75% of normal). Temperatures will be 2 to 4 deg below normal and will only recover (very) slowly by early next week. Sunshine will become less frequent and it will be quite cloudy in northern counties. Sunshine will likely recover to normal values by weekend and early next week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will continue cloudy with a few showers and cool, highs near 15 C.

TONIGHT will be breezy and quite cold with a few passing showers, with lows 4 to 7 C.

FRIDAY variable cloud, frequent showers, cool, lows near 7 C and highs near 15 C.

SATURDAY will continue partly cloudy and cool in a northerly breeze, lows 5 to 7 C and highs 14 to 17 C. It could be a touch warmer in parts of the south. Showers will be isolated and confined to parts of the north-central counties.

SUNDAY, partly cloudy, a second surge of colder air now appears likely, winds NNW 40-60 km/hr, showers could contain hail and it could be cold enough for sleet or snow on highest peaks (more likely in Scotland and Wales), so I would advise against any plans for climbing peaks. Lows 2 to 5 C, highs 10 to 15 C.

This second surge of colder air will last through Monday (lows 2 to 5 C, highs 12 to 16 C), and a brief warming will occur around Tuesday into Wednesday (near 17 C) but it could then turn quite cool again later in the week with further intervals of rain possible as winds turn easterly and storm track positions itself south of Ireland.

If you're of a certain age you could recall that every June from about 1985 to 1991 started out chilly like this, and June 1972 was notably cold start to finish (I was travelling in UK so I recall it), 2012 was quite cold also - - so we've seen this before (my only visit to Ireland was in June 1978 and it was quite chilly that month also, and very windy one day, I recall it being near the solstice and we were near Waterville as it happened).

My local weather on Wednesday was sunny as our warmer interval begins to take hold, highs near 19 C but expected to be 24 C today and 28 C on Friday, 32 C on weekend.

TRENDS … Rather dry across the south, but showery rainfall in central and northern counties, although totals around 50% to 75% of normal. Temperatures will be 1 to 3 deg below normal and will only recover slowly by early next week. Sunshine will become less frequent and it will be quite cloudy in northern counties. Sunshine will likely recover to normal values by weekend and early next week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY variable cloud, showers developing, cool, highs near 15 C.

TONIGHT will be breezy with a few passing showers, with lows 5 to 8 C.

SATURDAY will continue partly cloudy and cool in a northerly breeze, lows 5 to 7 C and highs 14 to 17 C. It could be a touch warmer in parts of the south. Showers will be isolated at first and confined to parts of the north-central counties, becoming widespread later afternoon and evening.

SUNDAY, partly cloudy, cool, winds NNW 40-60 km/hr, showers could contain hail or even sleet as it will only be around 5 to 7 C on highest peaks, but for lower elevations lows 5 to 8 C, highs 12 to 15 C.

This second surge of colder air will last through Monday (lows 2 to 5 C, highs 12 to 16 C), even cooler in parts of England (near 11 C), then a brief warming will occur around Tuesday into Wednesday (near 17 C with sunny intervals) with showers by later Wednesday, and it will then turn a bit cooler again later in the week with further intervals of rain possible by weekend of 15-16 June and following week, as winds turn easterly and storm track positions itself south of Ireland.

Saturday, 8 June, 2024 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS: Temperatures will average 2 to 3 deg below normal, rainfall near average, and generally rather cloudy especially in northern counties.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy, with showers fairly widespread in the north, gradually spreading into central and eventually southern counties, moderate northwest winds 30 to 50 km/hr, and highs near 17 C.

TONIGHT will be overcast with occasional rain and a cold northwest wind, lows 4 to 7 C north, 7 to 9 C south.

SUNDAY will be partly cloudy and cool with showers, some wit hail, developing in a northerly wind of 40 to 60 km/hr, highs only 9 to 13 C north, 13 to 16 C south.

MONDAY will be partly cloudy and continued quite chilly, showers a bit more isolated, lows 3 to 7 C and highs about 14 C.

TUESDAY breezy and cool, isolated showers, lows 2 to 5 C, highs 14 to 16 C.

WEDNESDAY increasing cloud after a bright start, rain by evening in west. Lows 3 to 7 C, highs near 17 C.

THURSDAY will be cloudy with occasional rain, lows near 10 C and highs near 14 C.

FRIDAY will bring variable cloud, showers and highs near 18 C.

It will remain quite cool for June for at least the following week, some signs of a sustained warming trend near end of June.

My local weather was sunny and very warm with highs near 29 C. Weekend here will be sunny and hot, then scattered t'storms early next week. Not overly active across central and eastern regions of N America and temperatures near June normal values. A lot of expert forecasters are saying this will be a very active hurricane season and NOAA predicts over 20 named storms, about 12 being hurricanes and possibly 5 reaching major intensity. I have no reason to go against this but so far it as been quiet (early June often is anyway).

Sunday, 9 June, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS will continue cool, unsettled at times, and cloudy.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy and cool with showers or intervals of rain spreading into Connacht and Ulster later morning, then into central counties by afternoon, in a northerly wind of 40 to 60 km/hr, highs only 10 to 13 C north, 13 to 16 C south.

TONIGHT will be overcast and cool with occasional rain spreading into southeast before dying out towards dawn, in a cold northwest wind, lows 4 to 7 C north, 6 to 8 C south. Partial clearing after midnight further north and unseasonably cool.

MONDAY will be partly cloudy and continued quite chilly, showers a bit more isolated, lows 3 to 7 C and highs about 14 C.

TUESDAY breezy and cool, isolated showers, lows 2 to 5 C, highs 14 to 16 C. While overnight lows are very cool, keep in mind the nights are short and you would need to be out around 4 or 5 a.m. to see those lows, by 0700h it would be closer to 7 or 8 C.

WEDNESDAY increasing cloud after a bright start, rain by evening in west. Lows 3 to 7 C, highs near 17 C.

THURSDAY will be cloudy with occasional rain, foggy on high ground, rain heavy near south coast by afternoon, and lows near 10 C and highs near 14 C.

FRIDAY will bring variable cloud, showers and highs near 18 C.

WEEKEND of 15-16 JUNE looking unsettled and a bit cool too with highs 16 to 19 C.

It will remain quite cool for June into at least the following week, with some faint signs of a sustained warming trend near end of June but guidance keeps postponing its onset. While a few days will be close to June's normal values, others will be quite cool.

My local weather on Saturday was sunny and hot with a high near 31 C. It has clouded over during the evening. A weak front to our north and east will likely stay close to us for several days and bring a few isolated storms but dry and cloudy weather will now prevail.

Monday, 10 June, 2024 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS will stay cool, unsettled (especially Thursday and weekend), and rather cloudy although next few days should see reasonably good sunshine values.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy and quite chilly, isolated showers and highs about 14 C.

TONIGHT will be clear at times and unseasonably cool, lows 2 to 5 C. While overnight lows are very cool, keep in mind the nights are short and you would need to be out around 4 or 5 a.m. to see those lows, by 0700h it would be closer to 7 or 8 C.

TUESDAY breezy and cool, isolated showers, lows 2 to 5 C, highs 14 to 16 C.

WEDNESDAY increasing cloud after a bright start, rain by evening in west. Lows 2 to 7 C, highs near 17 C.

THURSDAY will be cloudy with occasional rain, foggy on high ground, rain heavy near south coast by afternoon, and lows near 10 C and highs near 14 C.

FRIDAY will bring variable cloud, showers, lows 7 to 9 C and highs near 17 C.

WEEKEND of 15-16 JUNE looking unsettled, Saturday wet and windy, Sunday a bit better but staying rather cloudy and showery, and a bit cool too with highs 16 to 19 C. Nights will be milder around 10 C.

Latest guidance suggests a slight warming trend after next weekend, possibly starting a trend towards a pattern change towards end of June?

My local weather on Sunday was cloudy with a little light rain by late afternoon, high was near 22 C before rain dropped readings a little to 17 C. We are in the season of "cottonwood snow" and extensive drifts of cottonwood seeds are now on the ground, it also causes some health problems for people with allergies.

My local weather on Tuesday was partly cloudy to overcast, breezy, with a few spits of rain from scudding clouds during the afternoon, rather cool at 17 C. It will be turning quite hot for several days in the southeast and mid-Atlantic states, with highs 32-35 C. (US Open golf in North Carolina will see this trend, northeast states will take longer to reach 30s but it looks quite warm there eventually also.)

Thursday, 13 June, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for next week will continue unsettled, still rather cool but closer to normal values, and generally cloudy.

    FORECASTS

TODAY … Rain, heavy at times, will move rather slowly into eastern and northern counties. A partial clearance will follow into the south and west, but more showers will follow. Brief intervals of strong south winds will affect the southeast; highs 15 to 17 C.

TONIGHT … Variable cloud, showers, moderate west winds near Atlantic coasts. Lows 10 to 12 C.

FRIDAY … A few sunny breaks, followed by showers, some heavy and thundery in central and eastern counties, in moderate westerly breezes; highs 14 to 16 C.

SATURDAY … Variable cloud, showers, more frequent in north. Lows near 7 C and highs near 17 C.

    SUNDAY … A few showers, lows near 7 C and highs near 17 C.

Next week may see a gradual improving trend as unsettled conditions will fade out in first part of the week. A ridge of high pressure could protect Ireland from expected heavy rainfalls moving north from France into southeast England around end of next week.

My local weather on Wednesday was cloudy with a few breaks, dry and cool at 16 C.

Saturday, 15 June, 2024 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Temperatures will return to near normal mid-June levels and rain will not be too frequent after this weekend, with improving sunshine levels.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will see some heavy showers at first in eastern counties and outbreaks of rain across the south, partly cloudy to overcast in the north with isolated showers, moderate westerly winds in southern counties, light to moderate northerly breezes further north, as a weak frontal trough edges south, highs 15 to 17 C. Rainfalls of 10 to 15 mm are possible and could briefly produce flooding of low-lying areas.

TONIGHT will see a few showers, partly cloudy skies becoming quite misty to foggy after midnight. Lows 7 to 9 C.

SUNDAY will slowly clear across southern and some central counties, while showers move into northern counties from a weak low drifting south into Ulster. Highs 14 to 16 C.

MONDAY partly cloudy and some longer sunny spells likely by afternoon, isolated showers, lows 5 to 7 C and highs 15 to 18 C.

TUESDAY onward, an improving picture (with medium confidence given model wavering in past few days), likely to be partly cloudy to sunny for several days and temperatures will edge up towards 20 C, before another unsettled spell in time for weekend of 22nd-23rd, showery with highs near 18 C and moderate southwest winds at times. At present, models are advertising warmer weather still for the week of 24 to 28 June but confidence is low to moderate on that evolution.

My local weather on Friday was cloudy but dry and pleasant enough at around 19 C, showers are gradually developing over mountains to our west and a cooling trend will begin Saturday, however, we'll be away from here all weekend and could see sleet or snow on our travels to Calgary, Alberta. I will be taking a short break from forecasting until posting again on Tuesday morning.

Tuesday, 18 June, 2024 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS: Temperatures will be near or slightly above normal values, rainfall will be 25 to 50 per cent of normal, and sunshine near average.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy, best sunshine likely to be near south coast counties, as drizzly showers could be in the mix further north, little if any accumulation expected, highs near 17 C south, 14 C north.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy with skies becoming misty or foggy in places. Lows 4 to 7 C.

WEDNESDAY will be partly cloudy with longer sunny spells in eastern counties, highs 15 to 19 C.

THURSDAY will be partly to mostly cloudy with rain late in the day in west, lows near 7 C, and highs 15 to 19 C.

FRIDAY will be cloudy with showers, rather muggy, lows near 12 C and highs near 19 C.

SATURDAY will become partly cloudy as early showers move east, lows near 12 C, highs near 18 C.

SUNDAY and MONDAY will be quite warm with some sun, lows near 10 C and highs near 21 C.

Outlook is a bit uncertain but the warm and dry interval could slowly transition to near normal and unsettled as weak systems break down high pressure from south and west.

My local weather today was partly cloudy to overcast with one brief afternoon shower and cool, high was around 17 C. Weekend (travel) weather was quite unsettled with some outbreaks of heavy rain and one brief hailstorm southwest of Calgary, a few breaks allowed for some good views of Rockies anyway, although main reason for our trip was to visit friends, overall quite enjoyable despite fairly bad weather in both directions. It was cold enough to drop a bit of snow at highest pass elevations (which are around 1600 meters), although that had taken place before we drove through. Temperatures were below 10 C all day at our destination (about 12 deg below their average) and closer to 12-15 C in eastern B.C. valleys en route, just 4-7 C at pass elevations and even colder where snow was lying, where it felt close to 1 or 2 C in a near freezing fog. Quite poor for June and felt like early November. It will gradually warm into low 20s here later in week; heat wave has started up over eastern U.S. and southern Ontario.

Wednesday, 19 June, 2024 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Temperatures will be near or slightly above normal values, rainfall will be 25 to 50 per cent of normal, and sunshine near average.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy with longer sunny spells in eastern counties, highs 15 to 19 C.

TONIGHT will be clear with cloudy intervals, lows 6 to 9 C.

THURSDAY will be partly to mostly cloudy with rain late in the day in west, and highs 15 to 19 C.

FRIDAY will be cloudy with showers, rather muggy, lows near 12 C and highs near 19 C.

SATURDAY will become partly cloudy as early showers move east, lows near 12 C, highs 18 to 21 C.

SUNDAY and MONDAY will be quite warm with some sun, lows near 10 C and highs 21 to 24 C.

Outlook is a continuing to suggest the warm and dry interval could slowly transition around Tuesday to near normal temperatures and unsettled conditions, as frontal systems break down the high pressure from south and west, some potential evident for significant rainfalls later next week.

My local weather on Tuesday was overcast with a briefly heavy hail shower around early afternoon, generally chilly with highs near 15 C. Snow covered the ground in parts of Alberta southwest of Calgary. It's quite hot, although not record-breaking in most cases, in eastern regions of the U.S. and southern Canada. Yet another drenching rainfall is expected in central and eastern Texas from a tropical depression that could become a named storm later this week west of Galveston.

SUNDAY to TUESDAY will be quite warm with some sun, lows near 10 C and highs 21 to 24 C.

Disturbances will begin to feed north or even northwest from France across southwest England and into eastern Ireland bringing significant rainfalls later next week, with highs 17 to 20 C.

Saturday, 22 June, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS… Warm and rather muggy at times, temperatures will average 2-4 deg above normal. Some rain at times by Tuesday but current indications are for isolated heavy showers while generally rain will amount to about half of normal values. Sunshine near average.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will feature warm, hazy sunshine; cloud will thicken in western counties, isolated drizzle could develop near coasts; highs 19 to 23 C.

TONIGHT hazy and warm, breezy, lows 12 to 15 C.

SUNDAY variable cloud, sunny intervals, warm; highs 21 to 25 C.

MONDAY hazy sunshine, very warm, lows 12 to 15 C, highs 22 to 26 C.

TUESDAY increasing cloud, warm, some outbreaks of rain in west, risk of an isolated heavy thunderstorm in Connacht. Lows 13 to 16 C, highs 20 to 23 C west, 23 to 26 C east.

WEDNESDAY variable cloud, showers and isolated thunderstorms, lows 12 to 15 C, highs 19 to 22 C.

    THURSDAY variable cloud, showers, lows 10 to 13 C, highs 17 to 21 C.

FRIDAY into WEEKEND will see a resumption of warm southwest winds, but it could take a day or two for temperatures to return to levels similar to peak of warm spell in next few days.

My local weather on Friday was sunny with a few clouds, very warm (28 C). The full moon is very low in the south as we pass the peak of a declination cycle that sees summer full moons taking a course similar to where one would see the sun at winter solstice in Scotland (due to a 5 deg shift in celestial latitude at this point in an 18.6 year cycle). Winter full moons (last winter and also in 2024-25) will run very high in our skies, about where the sun would track in the south of France at the summer solstice (speaking of which, that took place on Thursday evening in 2024).

Saturday, 29 June, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Cool, breezy and unsettled, but rainfalls generally no greater than average.

    FORECASTS

TODAY showers becoming more confined to southeast by afternoon, partial clearing elsewhere, cool; lows near 10 C and highs near 15 C, possibly 17 or 18 where any sunshine develops further west. About 10 mm of rain can be expected in total.

TONIGHT partly cloudy, breezy, lows 7 to 9 C.

SUNDAY variable cloud, patchy drizzle mostly in west and north, highs near 17 C.

MONDAY rain tapering to showers during the morning, partial clearing afternoon, breezy, lows near 11 C, highs near 17 C. Only about 2-5 mm of rain likely in most places.

Sunday, 30 June, 2024 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Cool, breezy and unsettled, but rainfalls generally no greater than average.

    FORECASTS

TODAY sunny intervals at first, then variable cloud, patchy drizzle developing, mostly in west and north, highs near 17 C.

TONIGHT outbreaks of light rain, lows 10 to 12 C.

MONDAY rain tapering to showers during the morning, partial clearing afternoon, breezy, lows near 11 C, highs near 17 C. Only about 2-5 mm of rain likely in most places, and the bulk of it occurring overnight.

TUESDAY increasing cloud, breezy with outbreaks of rain by afternoon or evening, lows near 12 C, highs near 16 C north, 19 C south.

WEDNESDAY to FRIDAY of next week will be breezy to windy and quite cool for early July, lows around 9 or 10 C, highs 15 to 18 C, with strong westerly winds at times.

By weekend of 6-7 July, current indications suggest a wet interval across the south, probably on Saturday, as low pressure slides across south coast into Britain, but if the track of this changes, it could bring a more widespread rainfall if it tracks into central counties. Also timing could slow down but we won't really see a clear picture of next weekend for a few days yet. Temperatures would likely be around 15 C in wetter parts of weekend, but could be a few degrees higher during dry intervals.

Little change is foreseen in cool, unsettled pattern, as fast-moving weak frontal waves alternate with dry slots, in a westerly flow, lows 10 to 12 C and highs 17 to 20 C; but, there could be slight improvements into mid-July. A significant warming trend is possible towards later July.

My local weather on Saturday was overcast but dry, with a high of about 21 C. Another round of severe storms is developing across the eastern U.S. and expected to be fairly significant on Sunday in the large urban areas near the coast.

Monday, 1st July, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Cool, breezy and unsettled, but rainfalls generally no greater than average. Temperatures closer to normal in south, but 1 to 2 deg below in north.

    FORECASTS

MONDAY … further showers during the morning, partial clearing by afternoon, breezy, highs near 17 C.

TONIGHT partly cloudy, outbreaks of light rain in north, lows 9 to 11 C.

TUESDAY increasing cloud, breezy with outbreaks of rain by afternoon or evening, highs near 16 C north, 19 C south.

WEDNESDAY breezy and cool with showers, lows near 9 C and highs near 17 C.

THURSDAY breezy to windy and cool, showers could contain hail, lows near 8 C and highs near 16 C.

FRIDAY breezy, showers, lows near 9 C and highs near 17 C.

The weekend of 6-7 July now looks generally cool and unsettled, with highs 15 to 18 C.

Little change is foreseen in cool, unsettled pattern, and there could be an interval of heavier rain around Monday 8th, but eventually I foresee a significant warming trend towards second half of July.

My local weather on Sunday was cloudy with rain at first, then partly cloudy to overcast, high 22 C. Three years ago we had the "heat dome" at its peak and an all-time record high of 44 C here. You would need to go to southern Arizona to find anything like that now.

Tuesday, 2 July, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS will remain cool, breezy and unsettled, but temperatures will be fairly close to normal values in the south, 1 to 2 deg below in the north.

    FORECASTS

TODAY increasing cloud, outbreaks of rain late in the day lasting overnight, moderate southwest winds. Highs near 16 C north to 19 C south. TONIGHT some heavier bursts of rain in blustery southwest winds in the 40-70 km/hr range, lows 10 to 12 C. About 10 mm of rain is likely.

WEDNESDAY partly cloudy, showers, breezy. Lows near 9 C and highs near 17 C. THURSDAY breezy to windy, showers could contain hail, lows near 8 C and highs near 16 C. Winds westerly 50 to 80 km/hr. FRIDAY variable cloud, showers, lows near 8 C and highs near 17 C. WEEKEND of 6-7 JULY looks cool, unsettled and breezy, highs 15 to 18 C. An interval of heavier rain now appears more likely on Sunday as guidance evolves to capture this system (so far it has shifted twice by up to two days) ... Monday will continue unsettled though, and slow improvements appear possible but not yet "carved in stone" later next week.

My local weather on Monday was cloudy with a few brighter intervals, and a high near 21 C. In the Caribbean region, unusually strong early hurricane Beryl scored a direct hit on a small island between Grenada and St Vincent (Carriacou) as a strong cat-4 earlier Monday, damage is extensive (saw some drone footage, a lot of well-built structures lost roofs and parts of walls also, warnings were good and hopefully everyone there survived it), and the hurricane is now heading towards Jamaica currently at cat-5 intensity. It's a bit too early to speculate on how severe a blow this will be to Jamaica and/or Cayman Islands, the storm is about two days away. Meanwhile, tropical storm Chris has already come and gone near the Mexican coast. The "count" for 2024 is now 3/1/1.

Wednesday, 3 July, 2024 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … cool, unsettled, near average amounts of rain, temperatures 1 to 2 deg below normal.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy with a few brief showers, moderate westerly breezes, highs near 17 C.

TONIGHT will be mostly cloudy with a few showers, westerly winds increasing in coastal and northern counties, lows near 9 C.

THURSDAY windy and cool, outbreaks of rain in north and west, showers further south and east, winds as strong as 60-90 km/hr in exposed coastal and northern counties, highs near 14 C north, 17 C south.

FRIDAY partly cloudy, showers, moderate breezes, lows near 10 C and highs near 16 C.

SATURDAY mostly cloudy, showers, cool northwest breezes, lows around 9 C and highs 14 to 16 C.

SUNDAY partly cloudy, showers, lows near 8 C and highs near 17 C.

The disturbance we have been discussing now appears later again, and a bit weaker, taking a southerly track that may skirt south coast counties and impact southern Britain by late Monday into Tuesday, so that interval in Ireland will bring variable amounts of cloud and some showers with temperatures in a similar range to this week. Improvements may be slow to develop as remnants of that low will circle back around during next week.

My local weather on Tuesday was very unsettled with several heavy showers and brief sunny spells when the highest temperatures occurred, around 24 C. Hurricane Beryl continues to be a monster near cat-5 overnight and headed unfortunately towards Jamaica, where it could arrive with a vengeance later today.

Thursday, 4 July, 2024 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... cool, unsettled, rather cloudy, near average amounts of rain, temperatures 1 to 2 deg below normal.

    FORECASTS

TODAY windy and cool with rain at times, more showery further south, winds strongest in coastal and northern counties, westerly 50 to 80 km/hr. These strong winds will tend to die off sooner in the south as a weak disturbance approaches by late afternoon, spreading rain into west Munster by evening. Highs near 14 C north and 17 C south.

TONIGHT will be cloudy with occasional rain, about 5 to 10 mm in most places. Lows 7 to 9 C.

FRIDAY partly cloudy, showers, moderate breezes, and highs near 16 C.

SATURDAY mostly cloudy, showers, cool northwest breezes, lows around 9 C and highs 14 to 16 C.

SUNDAY partly cloudy, showers, lows near 8 C and highs near 17 C.

MONDAY increasing cloud, rain by late afternoon or evening, lows near 7 C and highs near 18 C.

TUESDAY occasional rain (about 10-15 mm potential), only isolated showers in Ulster as the system will track through the southeast, lows around 10 C and highs 15 to 17 C. Some breaks on Wednesday before another Atlantic depression arrives around Thursday 11th. A very gradual improvement in terms of higher temperatures and less frequent rain thereafter, could see some summery warmth after mid-July.

My local weather on Wednesday started out rather cloudy and slowly turned sunny and quite warm (near 28 C) as a large upper level ridge is building to bring us about a week to ten days of hot, dry weather. It's already quite hot in the southwestern U.S. (45 C at both Phoenix and Las Vegas). Hurricane Beryl did impact some parts of the south coast of Jamaica, worst damage appears to be in the southwest, the capital Kingston got a more moderate impact being well outside the core which then brushed the coast as the hurricane tracks towards Grand Cayman late overnight; once again, it may stay far enough to south to avoid worst damage, and also the system is slowly weakening and appears to be around a strong cat-3 now. It will eventually cross the Yucatan Peninsula and enter the Gulf of Mexico, to make another landfall near the Texas-Mexico border at Brownsville TX early next week.
