Rocha and a few more reserves have been released.

The Club would like to thank Ricardo Rocha for his contribution over the past two-and-a-half years following his departure at the conclusion of his contract.

The Portuguese defender made 18 appearances in our colours after joining from Benfica in January 2007.

Reserve team players Simon Dawkins, Kyle Fraser-Allen, Cian Hughton, Danny Hutchins, David Hutton, Jacques Maghoma and Takura Mtandari have also been released at the end of their contracts, along with Academy players Saulo Asajile, Mark Clare, James Dalton and Ajet Shehu.

I thought some of those guys were supposed to have potential at some stage.

im really surpsrised that players like maghoma and mtandari are being let go. they seemed to have an awful lot of impact onthe reserve team last season.

i wonder how hard it was for clive allen to let fraser-allen go. it is some relatvie of hs isnt it?

According to reports, Spurs are looking at Richard Dunne (God knows why) and Villa are looking at Huddlestone as replacement for Barry

    Thoughts?

    both teams will be disappointed

If Dunne weren't so error prone he'd be class. I don't think he's what we need. Hudd could work very well at Villa, spraying the ball around the Gabby and Ashley. They've got quite a nimble midfield so sticking someone slower like Thudd would probably work.

    Dunne is past his prime.

    Hudd is too slow.

    Neither should be at Spurs.

Ive put in a request to have Inesta trandfered from barca.
I am waiting for Danny levy to get back to me

Dunne could do a job for us alright. As for the Hudd he needs a midfield built round him to play to his undoubted abilities. This won't happen at Spurs and probably not at any EPL club.

did any of ye see Dunne tonight against Bulgaria, great performance from him,of course i would love to see him with Spurs.

not sure about that either ronan, think dunne is well underrated. he does the simple things great. we need back up for woody and ledley. he'd kick his granny to get to the ball, like that about him. he was great against bulgaria but i think he does that regularly.

    RUUD TO SPURS
Sometimes our exciting transfer blog picks up on a hint of a rumour from assorted nefarious sources, and a newspaper the next day grabs it and runs with it like a thoroughbred racing horse.

Speaking of which, The Daily Mail this morning fleshes out a whisper we heard yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur are chasing Ruud van Nistelrooy from Real Madrid.

With Real keen to clear their squad out to make room for less equine players, Ruud is likely to be on his way this summer, and the Mail claims Spurs are 'edging closer to a cut-price deal'.

How cut price? Why, £1.25million, apparently, which even though the big man is cracking on a bit now, sounds like a bloody bargain to us.

The paper reports: 'Despite concerns over his age and fitness, boss Harry Redknapp appears to have persuaded chairman Daniel Levy to back him in his move for the former Manchester United striker, who will command wages in the £70,000-a-week bracket, putting him among the top earners at Spurs.'

They also reckon that Fulham are interested, while 'Arry wants Roque Santa Cruz, casting more doubt on the futures of Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Potentially risky move. He's been crocked on and off for ages, and this particular off has been for a long time.

I like him too Ronan! He's no European libero but he's better than Corluka or Zokora as a CB

if he is and stays fit wuld be a great signin but that is a huge if. think he is finished to be honest

  • Registered Users Posts: 592 ✭✭✭galinka

The weekly wage packet will be the kicker - probably get him for £2M.

If we could pay him for every winning appearence we might be on to something!

His injury problems would concern me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

His goalscoring record is superb, at that price we'd be mad to turn him down.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

    I agree,

Even at a high wage i'd prefer to see him sign then pay ott for a reject like Owen. I could see Ruud playing very well with Robbie or Defoe too.

Still it all depends can we keep him fit.

at the time of his last injury he was reals top scorer.I think he would be a steal at £1.25mill. Hes always going to get goals. One of the best box players ever.

what bout dawson? we've dawson and corluka as back-up. If were geten a new centre back i'd go for micah richards ahead of dunne. Only 20 with bags of potential and available

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Antisocialiser

micah richards one of a few CB's that spring to mind who are actually more accident prone that dunne.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭tippspur

I don't think Richards has built on his earlier promise, had a poor last season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 538 ✭✭✭markopantelic

dunne was **** last seaosn because of richards. its like cannavaro for real, he's clearly deadly but he was kinda poor during his time in spain because of a lack of protection. manchester city could have had baresi and mcgrath at the back last season, with maldini there as a 12th man and they still would have been **** at the back, when given came in things drastically improved. top keeper, best in the english division.

dunne would be a terrific signing for tottenham hotspur

If it was all down to richards for dunne being **** why did mark hughes keep playing him. He had plenty of other options. The difference betwen dunne and richards is richards has pace thats why dunne has equaled the most red cards in premeirship history. Hes found out with his pace.

We don't need Dunne we have good cover with dawson and corluka but looking to the future i'd snap up richards. Do you remember Dunne when he was 20.....was his nickname not "the honeymonster"?Dunnes 29,how many years are you gona get out of him? 2/3 at best. Central defence is covered at the moment imo anyway

    +1

Dunne won't come to us to be backup to Woody and King, he's shown patches of poor form this season just gone and I think that signals a downward tendency in his game.

He won't be an upgrade on any of our first choice CBs, and if we are buying in cover I'd rather we got someone with a few more useful years ahead of them.

Mate, you're welcome to your opinion (and this is our forum, not mine) but if you think Huddlestone is not slow you need to get to Specsavers!

I've seen milk turn quicker than the big lad.
