viera to sign 12 month contract before the 22nd...
this is yet another disgrace to grace our club. something is not right when you see the likes of chimbonda and viera type signings. i will be a child to quote a previous post and hold a grudge against him aswell as all those scum who danced around whl when they secured the league taunting the home support... how easily we forget. Whats next campbellend... in fact fcuk it harry sign him for the pure hilarity of it all, at least it will be entertaining.

viera seems a strange one,i could not give a toss if he played for the asre as long as it was an improvement for spurs but his best is way behind him, even if it is pay for play in my opinion it would just be a waste of resources.

How many are we linked with now....young..Huntelaar robben vieria..crouch ,negredo...Ruud van Nis.....Looks like we will be signing a new team.....

I guess one maybe...but dont we have to sell b4 we can buy....so who are we selling...

    Bent,Pav,Hutton,JJ,Keano...??

    Strange transfer window

Surprised 'Arry hasn't been ducking & diving round the transfer market yet...maybe we have actually learnt to maintain a settled squad rather than changing half of it every summer - I'd like to see a quality left winger & maybe an extra central defender, but we're not far off if we can keep the squad we have. Let 'Arry work his magic with what we have!

Yeah I have to admit that it feels weird to not have signed anybody yet, or for no real interest to be confirmed. Robben and Van Huntelaar would be great additions, if they'd come, which is probably unlikely. The same applies to Young as I don't know why he'd leave Villa.

Still, we finished the season strongly so if we keep the same squad hopefully we can continue like that.

Looks like we will end up with Negredo from real madrid (well they own him anyway, he has been at Almeria for 2 years!) Anyway he did get 19 goal in the league last year, but only 13 the year before - not much of a step up from Bent if you ask me, especially at €13m! At least Bent has proven that he can get goals in the EPL, I would say he is guaranteed 15 a year if he plays every week - The Spanish guy, who knows?? That is the risk you take when you go abroad!

Having said that Huntalar is worth the money all day long, but this guy gets 20+ every season!!

According to Football365 Nottm Forest have had a bid of 1.75 million accepted for Chris Gunter.

Thought he looked promising anytime I saw him and would have preferred him to go on loan for a season, but I guess he has 3 RBs ahead of him in the pecking order and another 2 allegedly on the way from Sheff Utd, what the hell is it with us overloading in 1 position?

I see on F365 Harry is quoted as interested in Crouch. I detest Crouch as a footballer and what he does to a side (one dimensional). Infact I dont think I ever disliked a footballer more and really hope this one does not come off.

Im sure others will post benefits he brings and I know my argument is not entirely rational.

No, i completely agee with you, i hate crouch. he's not even any good in the air!

i have to say i also have an inate dislike for him when he partnered defoe at portsmouth he was such a glory and never set up defoe even when he was in great positions.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭Dublin Spur

I happen to think that Crouch is a decent footballer.

But he or anyone else we've been linkked with just are't gonna put us back near the top of Englinsh football, surely we all know this deep down.

We're the 5th choice at best for any player thinking of playing in the PL. While that remains we will always be average or slightly better or worse than average. And that's quite a depressing if you think about it too much.

Ofcourse thats true at the moment, but things change. One multi-billionaire takeover (look at Man City) or one great champions-league qualifying season (even we nearly did it under Jol a couple of years back) would put us right back up there, in the money & in for the biggest names.

It is hard, but you have to believe otherwise there's no point!

It's getting harder and harder to beleive after years and years of one step forwards 2 steps back. I'm pretty resigned to us being average and anything better is a bonus. This way you feel less gutted when we fail. I have put tonnes on belief into Spurs over the years only for it always to end in tears. Better to keep expectations low would be my advise. :(

I'm still really hoping huntlaar is still stalling with stuttgart waiting for levy to put in a bid

Interesting signings, especially with one of them going back to the club on loan for a season. Look like they're for the future, rather than right now.

Good. I know he hasn't made it yet and it's getting increasingly less likely that if he hasn't now, he never will, but I'd rather see him go on loan than for us to sell him, just in case.

huntlaar would be great but we have 4 first team strikers at the moment, with the news ledley kings knee has blown up again, woody is to see a specialist in america about his persistent groin injury and dawson achilles suddenly priorities have changed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 313 ✭✭StillRickyVilla

Why are we wasting the best part of £18m on a couple of right-back prospects (that we don't need) and an average striker (who again we don't need).

Our central defenders are so injury prone I see we do not even have ONE fit at the moment...Great, with the season just round the corner! Harry - hows about some quality cover for sick-notes Ledley & Woodgate?

Apart from getting a balanced squad together (which isn't that hard) the only difference between us and the likes of say a Liverpool is real true, superstar quality like a Torres upfront.

It really annoys me the negative mentality. Harry is already talking about finishing 6th as best. This isn't West Ham or Portsmouth.

Under Jol, we brought in Berbatov (I hate him now, but we can't dispute his quality) and we narrowly missed out on the Champions League on the last day of the season.

I say instead of thinking average, talking average, buying average & accepting average, we go out & find another Torres, Berbatov etc! If Hunterlaar's the man to propel us to the Champions League use the £18m on him!

I think Harry is being pragmatic if he's talking about 6th but alternatively he's also playing it down. year after year we keep hearing how we are going to break into the top four and then ultimately face disapointment.

If by talking it down he can keep players minds on their game instead of dreaming about CL football then maybe, just maybe we might get a reasonable start to the campaign instead of looking up the table at 17 or 18 clubs come the end of November.

I'm with you regarding the Central Defender situation though. Ledley is somewhat of a liability in that he manages to play through the pain for the glamour games but is then lying on the treatment table come the 'bread and butter' fixtures. It does de-stabilise the team IMO.

After watching the two Wembley Cup Friendlies (and remembereing they were only friendlies) it still concerns me how we played defensively. I don't know what to suggest, as top class centre backs seem very hard to come by these days. Ledley and Woody completely injury free are top class but it's not often that theyre injury free. Should we sacrifice strength in other areas of the team to bolster this position?

To be honest, whatever about Crouch - he'll score a few and help Defoe along, it's these Viera rumours that are really upsetting me. Why bring a player that's 33, past it, even in the slower Italian game, and a 9 year Arsenal veteran to Spurs? I just don't understand what he'll offer over Jenas or Palacios, and how long would we get out of him anyway!! Crazy. If both deals happen, I'll begin to worry about where the club are setting their sights.
