yep, defensive cover not essential but would be nice to have a seasoned, quality cb as cover rather than move players round.
i've read up on huntelaar, he looks top drawer so i would prob sacrifice either pav or keane for him. as you say keane on the slide, and pav was really only a panic buy when we lost berb last day of tfr window

yeah but HR has been saying that we could go for him if bent moves on, maybe he wants 5 strikers

im beginning to believe that jenas is on his way. he wasnt in the squad at all for the game against west ham.

was great to see modric captain the last day . i have seen such a small man make such good tackles - he gives 100% every single game, friendly or not

yep hopefully we wouldn't need to sell any strikers (as you say, pav has not really had a proper shot yet), but knowing levy, he will want balance the books. i have a feeling keane would have to be sold on the cheap & so i'll doubt we would sell as levy wouldn't want to take a loss on him after only just re-signing him.

no i do't think jenas would be sold, i heard HR saying how much he rated him, but then again it maybe just a negotiating tactic knowing harry! I think that would only happen if he went to villa and we got young.

yep, modric is top drawer, hopefully he will really spark this season

Keane had a rough seaso last year which is obviously gonna affect his playig...I would be sad to see him go, but he is past his prime and with the signing of crouch, his days are probably numbered.

With Berbatov he was awsome-if he can strike up a successful partnership with crouch/Pave/Defoe, he could be ok.

With that many strikers at our disposal, do you think Harry will abandon the old 4-4-2 for a 4-3-3?

Harry says he's unaware of an offer being made to Newcastle.

I wonder if this is tactics on Spurs part or maybe a ploy by Newcastle to signal to other interested clubs that they want to sell Bassong but offers must be in excess of £10m.

Bassong is worth £10 million and probably more, considering the market at the moment (Glen Johnson, Kolo Toure etc.) and what Spurs usually pay for players of lesser talent.

As a Newcastle fan he's the only player along with Habib Beye, and Martins before he left, that I care about holding onto.

I can't blame him for wanting to leave though, but I hope he goes to Arsenal.

Alongside Gallas, I can imagine that Wenger might be able to turn him into the next Desailly.

    Au revoir.

Do you see he played CM during the week?

I must say from irelands point of view this will be a disaster if it comes off but for spurs MAYBE he could do a job there, kinda floating around we all know he can pass fairly move and is a quick thinker.

I've said on the fourm many times that i've always liked robbie allot even in his coventry days i was routing for him so i'd love to see him put in a stellar season and at least leave not being remembered for his nightmare at Liverpool. I mean IMO he desn't deserve it cause i think he's been a grear player for us up till this year.

    Bent has gone to Sunderland.

Sky Sports are reporting the deal as "an initial £10m" payment to Spurs. However the Spurs official website have this statement released:-

'The following statement has been released to the Stock Exchange:
    5 August 2009
    Tottenham Hotspur plc

    Player Transfer
Tottenham Hotspur plc announces that agreement has been reached for the transfer of the player registration of Darren Bent to Sunderland AFC for a total consideration of up to £16.5 million.'

I guess they must have clauses (e.g. apprearances, goals, staying in the EPl etc. etc), which will bump up the final amount to the £16.5m we paid Charlton for him.

IMO I think it's a good transfer all round. Bent has never really settled and doesnt seem to fit in with Harry's plans and for the player himself, I reckon he'll get regular first team action at Sunderland.

I hope he does well for them, except when we play them of course.

its great for all parties. he didnt fit into harrys plans and never really was a true spurs player. levy did great business in getting the full ammount back even though its in installments.

we need to get bassong now , offload bentley and chimbonda and we are ready to go

    bring on the pool!!!!

I would have thought it was a case of the player waiting, knowing that a bigger club than ourselves would come calling !!

I never really thought Hunterlaar would be a go-er. Harry & Levy's 'money is tight' negotating tactics good for business but send out wrong message to the Hunterlaars of this world...(i.e that we lack ambition, have no money and we have no intention of competing for the CL)..

But if you look at it, again we have had well over £20m+ to spend this summer. I hope with all my heart that this summer's dealings make the difference but i'm not convinced..

Bassong officially signed. Not sure how good he is, but he's banned for the first two games of the season which sucks. Hopefully King will be available for those two and then Woody or Daws back after that.

Jake Livermore is going on loan to Derby for a month with an option until January. He looked good in pre-season but would surely be on the fringes of the squad so this seems to be a good move. I gather he has had a lot of injuries already in his career and doesn't have much match experience so hopefully he can play regularly at Derby and come back as a genuine option in midfield.

Anyone hear about a 6mil bid for McGeady? Can't see Celtic letting their best player go for that amount.

The celts wont have any CL Revenue this season so they might have to sell one of brown oe mcgeady. In saying that, they are in a decent financial position as it is, so they may keep both and give the europa league a crack.
