Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Volvo S40 boot locked

I'm having the following problem with my Volvo S40 (2005 model) and would obviously prefer not to have to give my hard earned cash to a stealership:

The boot won't open. The boot-release button just under the boot lid makes a brief electromechanical noise (but not the usual full release tone) and has no effect. No budge. Tried the boot release buttons on both key fobs; no noise or effect. The car's lcd info display shows the Boot Lid Reminder to indicate it's open even though the boot lid itself is closed/flush. Climbed into the back; no american style release handle, no obstructions, nothing sticking in or out of the closing areas or locking mechanism. Glove box is unlocked and opened (i.e. the Valet locking option is not enabled..which would otherwise lock the boot if it was). There's no manual key hole on the boot itself to use the metal key that's integrated into the key fob. All doors lock and unlock fine.

I'm suspecting a fuse problem somewhere.
Anybody else come across this before? Tks.

I had this issue on my previous car, a 05 Ford Focus. I imagine the S40 being based on the Focus most likely uses the same designed lock. It is a known issue with the Focus around 05/06 where water was leaking into the lock itself causing it to short. I had mine replaced with a better designed lock when I had the Focus in for a service, I think it cost around €90 including labour by a Ford dealer. I have a 06 S40 now and fingers crossed the lock doesn't have the same problem as of yet. I would hate to think what a Volvo dealer will charge for replacing it, they are known for being expensive.
