Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Its been a sad weekend for dance music, two very different people from different spectrums have died in very different tragic circumstances, firstly meastro Ger Bryne passed away from what I am told was a battle with cancer,I never knew the man,but I seen him live afew times and listened to a mix or two of his from time to time, and most of you wont know him,but a young lad of 18 from Cabra died tragically in an accident on the 29th,he posted here the odd time, his name was Stephen Young but he was known as Bippa,he wasnt a DJ or anyone important, but he loved his dance music and had a passion for oldskool and classics,he almost had an a-z enclopedic knowledge of tunes,a true raver,a sad weekend for dance music.RIP

my granny knew everything there was to know about tennis and wimbledon in particular but i wouldnt class it as a sad day for the tennis world when she passed away.

anyones death is sad. particlarly that of a young person.

Thats a bit harsh, just because he wasn't some famous DJ doesn't make his life mean any less...

My mate had told me about this but didn't hear anything more until this evening on the various forums.

I liked Bippa. Only through brief online chats and loved his post on another forum of what he found when he googled his username. Anyone remember that? Linked back to some chav name talk on this site actually... He was a nice good-hearted lad from what I could tell from my dealings with him.

It's an awful shame and I live literally one minute from where this happened too.

Thanks Vinyl, he has a tribute page on bebo if anybody would like to look at it:

    http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=9369696010

Just amazing how many people have viewed it in such a short space of time, he defo seemed to be the life and soul of the party, I am with my husband just under 5 years and have only met Stephen a couple of times but he was a gas youngfella.

Such a shame the good ones never deserve to leave this world so tragically.

I heard of Bippa's taste in music through a friend and when i found him on Bebo, it turned out he was a good mate of Damien who in fact was a son of my friend! He is a true legend for dance music and was well liked and respected! i am sorry i can't be at the Church of the most Precious Blood this evening, but my thoughts and prayers will be with his family and friends at this sad time!! ger byrne was one of dublins best loved pirate dj's and one of my best mates. last sunday he sadly lost his lengthy battle with cancer.
there was dj's at his funeral from most of the dublin pirates over the years but many were from a station ger owned a couple of years ago called fun fm. the lads sent him off in style, the way he deserved. he is survived by wife tasha and kids ryan breanna and josh.

he had a great ear for tunes and had some of the best tunes you'd hear,
sat nite between 8-late some of ger's friends will be spinning some of his music on crash fm 107.1 in honour of a great friend and dj.

    r.i.p ger
    r.i.p bippa

A friend of Gers, the lads from Fun FM invited me to the station for the tribute night.... they did an amazing set, playing all his favorite tunes from right back in the day to present time. Telling me stories that I have never heard before and had me laughing for hours... Lee, Mellow D, Dano and Al Byrne, he would have been blown away by your praise, and all the people that were texting in their love. He will never be forgotten and I know that he wont be far away whenever you drop one of his tunes into your shows... Thanks a bunch.

I am also from Cabra, and although I never met Bippa, when I was there at the weekend, I was told of the tradegy, and much love is sent to his poor mother, it will take alot of effort from friends and family and alot of time for her to reach anything near normality again, but Cabra is the place where she can definately count on neighbours to rally round.... I am very sorry for your loss.

    Fair play Dee,
we were delighted to have you and heller there, great to burn the ears of someone who'll listen haha. texts were flying in all night, Ger would of been chuffed!

I second that, just had Bippa's dad in my house he called up for a cuppa (my brother in law) and he said everybody is really rallying around his mother, a reall community down there in Cabra by the sounds of it.

This lad dying has really hit me deep, although I only knew him to see and say hello to,we did share an obsession for oldskool tunes, and Im sure if we had of know each other better we would have been buddies,I recently moved back to Cabra,I grew up there, but always hated the place and never gave the place anytime, never associated with the area, was always kind of ashamed to have been from there,so have been living elsewhere for past few years, but as of lately,I have had my son,and I want to bring him up somewhere with a good community and friendly people, and I realise now what a gem Cabra is,so Ive moved back home,Bippas death had such a huge effect on the area, its amazing to see how everyone is so deeply affected by this lad dying,I know this is nothing do with dance music, but it amazing how music can bring us together and help us cope with loss, this tune is case in point

Don't mean to drag up an old thread, just thought i should mention that i saw "RIP Bippa" written on a wall outside Dalymount Park this evening- thought it was a nice gesture if he was a Bohs supporter.

    Hey Lads

I just wanted to let you know that today Bippa's ashes were buried alongside his Grandparents in Glasnevin, he has reached his final resting place, and just for some good luck, I noticed that one of his friends put a cd into the soil, I am sure it was full of Old Skool :)

    RIP Bippa xxx
