Im happy with the draw, but we shouldn't have conceded the way we did.

What seems to be a commonly used phrase when watching Ireland under Trap,

    "Good result but rather boring"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,890 ✭✭✭✭Nalz

Dunphy is talking the truth 100%

    shock horror I know

Praising Dunne, O Shea and Duff
but pointing out how we were killed in midfield with the two lads dropping two deep and not showing for the ball

    Good result

    G'wan Eamo! Here's the Trap criticism :D

    He's spot on as well

Richard Dunne will wish he could play against Berbatov every week - complete garbage.

Dunne was excellent, Berbatov was poor, but Berbatov was dropping deep alot, actually all the match. Dunne had Boijnov and his replacements in his pockets, he didnt have to worry about Berbatov

Good point. Puts huge pressure on Bulgaria to chase us. Cyprus are also gone so that match may not be as vital to them. We should get at least 5 pts from our last 3 games & that should be enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Gilsey have no interest in the predictions.

Eamo's confident of 3 points in Cyprus. Good luck with that.

    Trappatoni deserves to be Lauded.

Has everyone forgotten the pulmelling Cyprus gave us- I would have bitten your hand off two years ago for this position.

Well done to the squad. The boring grumblers can kiss it.

+1 The buzz from being able to support Ireland in the WC would make up for a few boring performances / ground out results tbh.

Yup, totally agree. Unless Bulgaria beat Italy away (which isn't going to happen), 2 wins against Cyprus and Montenegro earns us a playoff at least.

    Great stuff altogether.

The Cyprus pummelling under Staunton could prove to be a great incentive. They inflicted one of the worst ever defeats we've had, and what better way to put that behind us then to go there and gain revenge with 3 points that will give us a great chance of qualification.

I believe we can go there and win assuming we'll have our key players fit.

Bulgaria's next two games are really tough with a lot of pressure on them. I think we've got a great chance.

It's great to once again be in with a shout of qualification unlike the last campaign where we were out of it before the final stretch.

Thought we should have one. Could have nicked it with mcGeady at the end.

I would will Keane keep up a fuss now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,908 ✭✭✭Daysha

Also, if Italy fail to beat Bulgaria, 3 wins from 3 will send us to South Africa as group winners. It's a long shot, but it's still a huge improvement on two years ago.

Btw, we are currently 2nd bottom of the "Runners-up-super-ultra-permutation-filled-European-qualification League"

Team Pld W D L GF GA GD AG Pts
    France 5 3 1 1 7 6 +1 4 10
    Bosnia and Herzegovina 5 3 0 2 14 6 +8 5 9
    Russia 4 3 0 1 8 3 +5 1 9
    Slovakia 4 3 0 1 7 5 +2 3 9
    Hungary 4 2 1 1 4 2 +2 2 7
    Switzerland 4 2 1 1 7 6 +1 4 7
    Scotland 5 2 1 2 4 6 −2 2 7
    Ireland 5 1 4 0 4 3 +1 3 7
    Croatia 3 1 1 1 4 4 0 0 4

Croatia v Ukraine currently 2-2, which would move Croatia on to 5 pts

Not a chance we would get out of the group above even if we end up as best runners up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭Bobalicious93

If we end up as best runners up who are we likely to face?

    It's an open draw

I know that doesn't look good, but 1) we're ahead of Scotland on GD, and 2) we've already played both our matches against the last placed team. We'll move up that ladder once we get Cyprus and Montenegro out of the way, which we'll have to get through to get the runners up anyway.
If we end up as best runners up who are we likely to face?

It's a random draw, no seeds.

Ireland are a hell of a lot better than the welsh and scottish set ups and we have a good manager which either country would gladly take

I'd much prefer Switzerland. A very average side we should beat and it would absolutely make up for 04 and 06.

Scotland have tough fixtures away to Norway, home to Holland and IhadaMacedonia

Hungarys are worse with two games against Portugal and home to Sweden.

Swiss will probably do well with their games against Luxemborg home and away and home to Greece, have to go to Latvia

Croatia still to play England again

I think we wont have to worry if we come second

Dunphy and Giles were just basically talking about how Carsley should be in the squad.
Giles then brings up about how people used to question Charlton's decisions and he got us to a WC quarter-final.

Dunphy then says "With Ronnie sitting on the f**king bench!" :D

Basically the worst 2nd place team in the groups are eliminated, and the other 8 are randomly drawn into 4 2-legged matches. The 4 winners qualify.

Good performances by Given, JOSH, Dunne, Hunt, Duff, and Folan

    Pretty pleased with that tbh

Great result, Trappatoni is working miracles with this motley crew. Our Lord was able to turn 5 loaves of bread into le petit dejeuner for 5000 people, but King Trap (so far) is able to secure 13 priceless World Cup points from Division 1 journeymen.

    You do the math!

Are Chris McCann and Keith Fahey any good? Would sell my soul if Trap dropped Glenn Whelan. Play-Doh legs Steven Reid will be back in September thankfully.

Yes, he's back for a week in September I believe, before he's due to get injured again. Just like clockwork.

St Ledger looked very good. Far better option than McShane.

Entirely Kilbane's fault for the goal. He went to attack the ball, didn't commit to his decision and then changed his mind and was caught on the wrong side of his man.

Trap deserves a wage increase for the job he's doing with this squad. Would love to play Scotland in a play off.:)

Agreed. St.Ledger did fine and looks a far better option than McShane.

Folan did well too, he was a handful for them at times. Has established himself now as a very useful option in attack.

Yeah, St Ledger and Dunne look very good together.

Delaney or O'Dea for left-back perhaps?

I think we have a fairly solid defence once we get the left-back position sorted. I'd go with Delaney, and keep O'Shea at right-full.
