Yes it is very expensive. In retail stores it seems to be around €30'ish.

This game is full of win and I've not even tried online yet. Hours of fun in just the armoury alone. Here's some good vids I found

This game doesn't run in crossfire but you can force it by putting -winxp in the shortcut properties, gives me a few extra frames, hopefully Ati Catalyst 9.7 will optimise this more. My desktop shortcut has the following
    -cpuCount=4 -nosplash -maxmem=2047 -winxp
my cpucount is 4 cos I got a quad, use 2 for a dualcore, nosplash removes the intro and maxmem allows game engine to use more ram

That Tanks and Infantry video is brilliant. Really makes me want to get into it.

I can't seem to get very far on the demo

I do the first training bit, the obstacle course, and this is fine, then I move on to the firing range. The firing instructor tells me to pick up some ammo, and then fire off a few test rounds before moving on to the firing test, but nothing happens.

I fire off a few rounds at various things, like the red targets in the field, and I stand at the "firing position" marker, but nothing happens. I can't seem to get the firing test stage to trigger. In the end I just get frustrated and pop one in the instructor's head...

Once you empty your first mag it should trigger.

I downloaded the demo and i gave up on the training it seems like another came that eastern european developers specialise in... unintuitive interface and messy buggy structure. And maybe its this new mouse but the aiming feels like it needs a dead band filter, lots of extra input happening when you move the mouse.

There is a bug in the firing range mission, I encountered it as well. What I did was before each test esc out and suspend which will save your progress, then you can keep retrying without having to redo all previous tests. You should be able to do the test when You reload, it will allow You pass that bug.

For those about to quit in training mode all I can say is stick with it, get the basics and get online ASAP. 30 player coop is great, maps are so big You gotta get a lift to the next objective, it could be a few km away. When You get killed and sent back to base you can rearm and then respawn to the next action point by going to the flag in the base and pressing the action key, saves miles of walking/driving at first as on ranked servers You gotta get a higher rank to drive tanks and fly.

Its kinda like STALKER SOC was when I first played it, I cursed it for being a buggy piece of shít, but I couldn't help playing it as its so much fun, the atmosphere and realism are amazing. This game is well worth €30, and thats coming from someone who doesn't buy many games. Performance dips to a crawl sometimes, even with a hefty pc. Its a little buggy now, but hopefully its gonna get better with another patch or 3 and better optimized graphics drivers

Just tried demo, couldnt get used to it, buttons all over the place and theres way to many of them. It needs to be simplified.

I was saying the same thing at first, considering it was the first time I ever played a Arma game.

8.4 hours later and I am used to the controls.:)

I spent ages messing around to try and get the controls, eventually I did. Takes time though, thats for sure.

You have to empty your first magazine. Then it starts.

I'm really loving multiplayer. There's a mod/map called crCTI Warfare that's just brilliant.

You basically have up to 18 people a side, each a squad leader who can command up to 10 AI squad members. They can be in tanks, jeeps or on foot etc. It's so good. One guy is a commander who can build bases and stuff. Haven't quite worked it all out.

Some TK-ing idiot will eventually get into a tank and tk his own base though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

More likely, the TK'ing idiot will steal the tank that somebody else just spent all their hard-earned cash on and then tk his own base :)

I'm not really warming to the game, I just find it too confusing.

Just got my copy today, can't wait to install it. Will stick to single-player for now to try to get rid of my mil-sim noobness.

How does it compare to Battlefield 2?

From all the videos, it looks kinda boring, very buddy and very "jerky", not smooth at all.

No one play Battlefield for a realistic depiction of war. This is as close as it gets.

God the multiplayer on this game is rubbish...I sat waiting in a chopper to be brought to a mission when the gunner on the otherside kept killing his team mates ...And this game being the buggy mess that it is said that it was me that killed them and took ten points off me before I had even fired a shot....
It's about 6 months from being finished if you ask me and I work in QA.
The most basic of testing errors appear all over this game..

That's exactly what happens irl though - I will definetly be getting this game, it is very very realistic :pac:

The complicated nature of it will keep the 12 year old idiots out of it. They will join a multi game, get bored, tk a few times then get kicked. Never to return.

    I quite enjoy it now.

I agree. I installed the demo and gave it about 3 hours before I realised that I was wasting my time.

No matter how good it looks it's just too 'technical' for me I think.

Game is utterly brilliant online and frustrating at the same time.

Either goes one of 2 ways, everyone works together and imo best MP online experience ever or tards get impatient and start Tking.

Game is bugged tho so that helps/hinders the above.
