So polling has begun on our offshore islands today, and the rest of us will be voting tomorrow.

So how did you vote or how will you vote in the Euros?

I'm in Dublin and I will be voting

    Mary Lou McDonald - 1
    Patricia McKenna - 2
    Joe Higgins - 3
    Pronsias De Rossa - 4

Gotta say your first and second choice are two candidates I will be trying to keep out at any cost. To achieve that aim I will be voting

    Eoin Ryan - 1
    Joe Higgins - 2
    Eibhlin Byrne - 3
    Deirdre De Burca - 4
    Gay Mitchell - 5
    Pronsias De Rossa - 6

In reality my ideal Line up would be Gay Mitchell, Pronsias De Rossa and Eoin Ryan in that order.

Over in brito land, the UKIP seems annoyed because some of the ballots were folded so that voters couldnt see the last four parties.

Some are calling it a fix mugebe style

makes the eyebrows raise like *so*

Seriously, anyone who didn't think to check for a fold when presented with only three candidates for the Euro elections shouldn't be allowed vote tbh.

british democracy forum is fun to read though because it could be the complete opposite to the boards.ie politics forum.

Though the Uk does seem a bit weird at the moment...how the hell are they gonna get a higher turnout then us (percentage of population, not population overall)?

    http://www.publicservice.co.uk/news_story.asp?id=9662

Also I took a walk today at 4pm-6pm from henry street down o connell street up westmorlan street to the top of grafton street outside of st stephans green back down to the central bank, across lower liffey street up to parnell street and back home.

I didnt find one canvasser :( not one for any candidate.

The day before the election you think Grafton street would have someone at the top with the chuggers at least???

Ned not in the running. Crowley and Sean Kelly safe. Would prefer to see Alan Kelly take Sinnott's seat.

Just the one preference to Susan O'Keeffe.

    Europe
    1. Toireasa Ferris
    2. Alan Kelly (don't particularly like him but gave him No.2 because I want Sinnott gone)
    3. Dan Boyle
Would have given Brian Crowley 4th but there's not much point since he's already safe. I like Sean Kelly but I didn't want to vote for him because I don't like Fine Gael's stance on the EU (or FG in general tbh)

Local - I focussed on the candidates and not the party because I don't think party politics is important at local level. It worked out as so:
    1. Sinn Fein (O'Regan)
    2. Fianna Fail (O'Dea)
    3. Labour (Mullally)

You gave SF no1 twice (Local & European) which would usually indicate your a SF supporter. I fail to see what Toireasa has to offer?

Some people reckon she has the legs to run a tough campaign http://elblogador.blogspot.com/2006/02/toireasa-ferris-pat-kenny-late-late.html :p

    Anywho, Euro
    Higgins
    De Rossa

    I voted:

    Local:

    1) Mick Murphy (Socialist Party)
    2) Sean Crowe (Sinn Feinn)

    European:

    1) Joe Higgins (Socialist Party)
    2) Patricia McKenna (Independent)

Like the way the polling cards have all the basic info on each candidate and a picture - hard to make a mistake.

You didnt vote for FG because you dont like their stance on the EU, the fact that they are pro EU and pro Lisbon but you voted for Labor which is pro EU and pro Lisbon...and you voted for SF which is pro EU (apparently) and anti Lisbon....

Ah well, it is after all your vote

I don't support any one particular party but I do agree with Sinn Fein on a lot of things. I will most likely vote either for them or for Labour at the next general election. As for Toireasa, I think she ran a great campaign and her views on the EU, the Lisbon Treaty and social issues in general are similar to my own.

If Labour had a better candidate I might have given them first preference but Alan Kelly turning up for 9 votes out of 55 in the Seanad turned me off him.

The problem is that I think FG are too pro-EU, whereas Labour and FF would be pro-EU but not quite to the same extent.

Totally agree with you on Alan Kelly. If he cant turn up in Dublin for a vote what are the chances that he will turn up in Brussels.

Love the line on FG, "too pro EU" :D

It's hard to explain it properly, that's just the "vibe" I get off them. Also I don't like the fact that Fine Gael are in the European People's Party. The EPP and FG itself are "centre-right" and "a Christian democracy". I don't like parties or politicians that fall into those categories.
Even though Sinn Fein and Labour have different stances on Lisbon, they are more socially and economically to the left than FG. So I don't see any problem in voting for Sinn Fein and Labour but not FG.

Yes, because we all know the Senate is as important as the European Parliament.

And also, the irony of someone not voting for Labour because they are worried about attendance, and then voting Sinn Fein, the party of Mary Lou. You just couldnt make it up.

I admit I know nothing about Mary Lou's attendance record but that has nothing to do with Toireasa Ferris. Who's to say that Ferris would not show up for important votes just because one of her colleagues didn't?
If I didn't honestly believe that Ferris was a strong candidate I would not have voted for her.
