Probably figure of speech on my part, I can hear them alright  but the bass seems to swamp everything imo on #2

I agree it may be fine at a lower volume though!

Still sounds all muddy bassy to me at low volume, with everything else sitting too far back. Looks kinda ok on a spectrum analyzer though.
Any thoughts on #2 vs #3 out of curiosity? #3 is much more what I intended

#2 is definitely a tighter sound and binds the elements together better that #1 (which you would expect). The bass is bit much in all the mixes but in terms of #2 I don't find it all that much overpowered than in #1. If it was me I'd shorted the decay on the bass which would give a bit more room while also taking the level down a bit. For me #3 is somewhere in between. Overall I think #2 has the potential to be the best sounding once the bass level is addressed.

Yeah I thought the release on the bass was running into the next note or something now that your saying the decay its probably what it is.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'm giving it a better mix treatment at the moment - that's where the underlying problem is.

Yeah, - I've pared back both decay and release a little on the bass, and tweaked the bass layering, and just cut the level a bit and it is much, much better.

I splashed out on Waves H-Series as well and giving it some treatment with that, - the h-series reverb is just unreal, far exceeding my expectations. I'll stick up the final version when done in the next day or two, - and yeah, - it will be the final one for better or worse, - I need to move on to my next track :) .

I think my best attempt at good quality, apart from this it's been a disaster with cheap headphones, one after another.

Some of you might have an interest in this Open Source software that is going to be HUGE! Been messing with it past few days there is lots of modules available for it. Wish some of the tracks I was messing with could sound like this...

Nice track man! Good dance bit for the first half and really liked the piano melody in the second half. You mixed with ****ty headphones too? did well.

Some nice elements in the track. Piano sounds good and the synth lead plays off it nicely. The pitched snare build up doesn't really lead anywhere though. Nice piano melody at the end. Could work well in a longer version.

Not looking for feedback on this I will probably Create a track from it though. Its a challenge for a Reason 10 license top 3 get a free upgrade to Reason 10. A like on the Video might increase my chances.

Working on another live jam this time rehearsed a little :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭iLikeWaffles

Still haven't finished the one I am rehearsing trying to fit it into 5 minutes here's a longer one though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭iLikeWaffles

Meh, 25 minutes will do. Deadline approaching for the submission on the challenge. Appreciate the likes even though they're a bit raw, I will most likely make the 3 video's into tracks. :)

Finally got this one wrapped up, was busy on another track.
Made a few tweaks and introduced a "chirpy robot sound" (or something like that ).

Love all the little twitchy and spacey drum sounds you've made and they sit nicely together with the strings and pads, but I think the bass is a bit too loud and takes too much away from the drums, maybe you cut out a lot of the high frequencies from it. I also thought the intro was a bit long

Like the chords- and the stab in particular. Hi-hats imo are a tiny bit repetitive and could work with the groove a little better. - a few small fills every phrase or so could help with the energy and groove.

Hmm yeah, - I added a plugin for "warmth" at the last minute and I think it has muddied up the low-mids a bit, - was unsure of it myself. Will upload a version without it later, and maybe cut a few bars off the intro off the intro as you suggest.

Some nice programming on the percussion and the flanged hits. I'm not gone on the analog style bass. It juts seems at odds with the other sounds in the track.

That's a great tune. Lovely chopped vocal and the organesque stabs work really well with the pads later on. I'm not sure if you have a limiter on the master but it seems to be playing with the levels of the hi-hats? Might be intentional on your part too of course. Really nice groove on that bassline. Big time head nodding :D

Thanks for that. Yeah, you are right. Think I am going to rethink the bassline completely, - I think it isn't just the instrument here, I think also that the bassline notes/progression just doesn't gel with the rest.
I might try something a bit more melodic, and slightly growlier but in the background still.
    Thanks

Finally got a good sit down today with the new Maschine MK3, great piece of kit and an excellent on board sound card. My take on a classic tune, all done on the MK3 :)

Pretty cool that you can do all that on one machine. Just wondering how the process goes fro building a track. Do you lay down one track at and then play over the next track and build like that?

Really is some piece of kit and early days for me using it.

Pretty much done one track at time. For this I started with the main synth, then the drums and then onto the backing melody and then the tweaking and changes begin and hours of fun lol. The on board soundcard along the mixer and displays makes it a joy to use and you rarely need to look at/use your laptop or PC. It's a vast improvement from the MK2 and in my opinion it's way better than the Maschine Studio.

New bass-line and shortened the intro - this new bassline seems to work a bit better, gives some space to the other elements I think,
Calling this done now for better or worse and on with the next one.
Thanks for all the feedback so far, if there is anything else please do let me know for future reference.

Much better bassline. Only thing is I reckon the lead synth is a bit loud in the mix
