JTSuited,i am ridiculously jealous of your eq'ing/compressing/general sound mixing abilities, truly sublime, got any tips for a nubile young producer like myself? by the way...is this forum solely for irish producers?..
    cheers man.

as far as mix tips go... here are mine that i tell everyone -

    1. Gear (apart from monitors) is irrelevant.

I've used all manner of hardware and software (mixing is the family business so to speak - my dad and grandad were fulltime mix engineers) and way too much emphasis is put on gear, especially nowadays when you can arm yourself with awesome plugins for little or nothing.

Granted I'm a gear freak but my sound would be almost the same using the stock plugins in logic alone.

    2. Words are crap when it comes to mixing - it's totally 100% about feel. Dissecting mixes using language is a waste of time. Asking what type of eq here, how much gain reduction there, etc. is a fruitless exercise. Get in there and start finishing some mixes. No other way to learn how to do it.

    3. Do not monitor loud. EVERYTHING sounds great when it's loud. That's not good for the end result.

    4. Finish mixes. And don't be too disheartened when your first 1000 hours of mixing yield no other results than putting on weight and chain-smoking!

to answer your other question...this is an irish site but there are a few foreigners here (not many though).

Cheers man,I'll take those words of wisdom onboard and get back to you when i'm a chainsmoking, overweight mixing master armed with nothing but a 70's church organ and a singstar microphone(not all that far from my first foray into electronic music).Btw...anyone interested in dubstep got any thoughts on my first track?

another tip , always take a break from doing your mix down , go away and do something else for an hour or so and come back to it with a fresh pair of ears .

Hi all kind souls who frequent the Dance Music Production Forum on boards.ie. I have put up another new track:
    http://soundcloud.com/android-78/funky-trousers

I am kind of creating tunes in a bit of bubble as no one around me is really interested in dance music that much and so feedback and comments would be much appreciated. Its a kind of housey number and I'm pretty happy with it but obviously I'd love to know what people on here think. Thanks for taking the time out to listen.

Howrya Android, I like your Funky Trousers. It sounds deadly.I really like that reverby synth that's running through it. Also like that string sound that's running through it. Sounds deadly.

Made a go at doing up a jungle track. It's called Screecher. Give it a listen and let me know what ye think. Any feedback on what I need to improve on or need to look out for with the next one would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Hello everybody,
I'm pretty new at the "production" game with no knowledge other than that gained through trial and error, but here's my 1st effort at something vaguely dubsteppy....http://soundcloud.com/fingers-become-thumbs/acres-mixdown
Thankyou in advance for any criticism's or feedback

Hi, had a listen to it. It's really good. especially for a first effort. I suppose if i was to offer any advice it would be maybe to add a sub bass to give it bit more oomph and maybe to maybe to add some sort of gain to the drums to bring them out a bit more. The camel crusher plug in is pretty good for this. It's a free plug in and I think there's a link to it on the resources thread.

I'm very new to all this too so I could be really leading up the wrong way completely!

Another thing I'd suggest is maybe going to www.irishdrumandbass.com and posting your link up on the tube station there. there's a lot of people there that are big into dubstep that will be able to give you way better advice than i can.

Thanks for the feedback whiterob. I really like your Screecher track. Its got a real old school jump up vibe that's pretty cool. I can't wait to hear more from you like this.

Tracks got a Eno and Byrne meets boards of canada trying to sound like radiohead feel to it,definitely awesome...it definitely shows it's "multiple changes",So many layers. Two thumbs up from me

3 older tracks of mine I've uploaded. I've lost the original arrangements of these tracks, so I tried my best to address some sound issues they had.

Loved the way its got a nice moody beat to bring it in, and that vocal sample is just classic ;). Great track.

Wow, thanks for the compliment Plebert. Glad you liked it. I had a listen your tunes on soundcloud and really enjoyed them. Acres mixdown is just begging to be a proper full on tune and I'm really liking Waltzstep and the sample at the beginning.

Any guesses to what genre this one is are more than welcome,I'm pretty clueless about it...This one represents a definite progression in what i can do with my DAW especially with sampling and the making of aforementioned sampling sound organic. http://soundcloud.com/fingers-become-thumbs/shoot-the-pilot
as always any tips, query's,beatdowns and comments are appreciated

    Thats a nice track.

Are you DJ'ing out these days?

What sort of stuff would you play now? Are you changing your set to play a deeper sound? or are you still Tech-y?

not djing out much at the moment. playing the yes festival on paddy's day and that's about it. obviously with current developments with releases etc. ;) I'll be getting about a bit more.

But still focused on the releases for the next 9 months.

Yeah be playing a lot lot lot deeper these days. Have to do a promomix by the end of next week so you'll see where I'm at now.

Been a while since I posted up a track here.

Havent had time to make much techno with my final few months at college taking its toll.

Been making a few dubstep tunes with a friend of mine under a new alias : Dump Valve.

First real attempt at dubstep so would appreciate any comments!

thanks. ah I work 12-14 hours a day most days, and every so often you just get into a groove, and there are loads of tracks that need finishing lying around.

How your head is not mush after putting in those hours in front of a sequencer window and a set of speakers I do not know.

Anyhoo, this is the latest one from myself:
