    Thats really good Matt..

The Hook & the beats are cool.

A fusion of Minimal/Trance/Dutch and a splash of 90s Hardcore - Excellent discription & a blend that really works.

I would enjoy hearing more in this style

    Actually -

Do you mind me asking what synths you used for the bass & also the chord-y hook?

What sorta elements are they essentially made up of?

    The bass sounds very thick.

Sylenth for the leads (a pair stacked) - There are 8*8 detuned saw oscillators, one part is just an octave above and then pitched up slightly to widen further.

Omnisphere for the bass, pretty much a stick one with the release controlled and opened up under the bassdrum for side chain. It has it's own multiband compressor on it to keep it pumping (i like crushing stuff)

    Cool NJ - Appreciate that.

I've been messing around a lot with Sylenth recently & will give that a try & see what I come up with.

I really like the GUI - Its pretty user friendly & easy to keep track of what you're up to.

    Hi all,
    Latest track up on soundcloud:

    http://soundcloud.com/android-78/functional

I don't really know what genre to put it into. Maybe somebody out there can help me out.

    Feedback much appreciated.

    Hi all,
    Latest track up on soundcloud:
    http://soundcloud.com/android-78/functional

    Songwise/progression:

Good that you're sticking to a few set parts and not just being random. I'd say experiment with dropping more of those parts out and back in - some sounds are in the mix for ages and make the songs shorter.

    Production:
No idea what gear you are monitoring through but a bit of mud in the bottom end, but track in general has i nice archaic feel about it - reminding me of FSOL.

Thanks very much for listening and for the feedback - its great to get. I think you're right about me leaving parts in too long - I guess the hardest part is knowing when to strip out and when to put back in.

Unfortunately I can only monitor through headphones - cardinal sin I know but kids, money and space mean I can't really set up proper speakers anywhere to give the music a good listen to and I think sometimes the bottom end suffers.

Thanks again for listening and for the advice - much appreciated! :)

Try listening to some marco V / marcel woods - and compare parts of your mix and eq as you write - or cruise around soundcloud and compare (while you write)...

Nothing wrong with headphones at this stage - you probably just need to treat 'problem areas' a little to give the mix some space (panning items helps) - but from an offhand guess, it sounds like the lower mid range 150-300htz is cluttered with too many sounds of the same timbre. Less is more.

Been playing around with ableton for a while now, no monitors so this is the closest iv got to finishing a track. Would love some feedback/pointers, specially from any dubstep heads!

    How are things Sh1te?

1st thing I'd recommend is reregistering with a new username.

I honestly think it gives the wrong impression from the start. Not at all trying to be smart with you Man.. but most people are going to think your Music is Sh1te & not listen. From your username & posting tracks here it looks as if you think you are Sh1te. Show a bit more belief in yourself.. Names are important.

Its your 1st post & I do not intend to be unfriendly but Sh1te is Sh1te. Anything has to be better!! :)

Track seems grand.. Dont listen to DS as much as 4/4 stuff - but the Hats are too repetitive & few more changes / layers / perc would be good.

Different musical sections too.. and fx of course. But its early days for the track as you said, so I hope you dont think that I am being too harsh.

Well done though Man - some nice sounds in there & the feel & rhythm is spot on.

Ha no its cool, don't usually go by this name on forums, I'll make a better impression with the next one:D

Yeah always seem to get lazy with perc. By different musical sections do you mean maybe bringing in a new synth?

Gonna get working on it now keeping all of that in mind, really appreciate it!

Cool Man - Didnt want to be a C0nt :) Haha!

Different sections - Lots of DS that I hear is real choppy & fast, going from one bunch of phrases into almost a different track.. maybe going from a restrictive "skank" into a more open Riff / Hook. Any of the DS Mixes that I've heard have been quite choppy too.. so if your tune is only going to be mixed in for less than a minute, then it has to be fuller & in your face earlier on.

I'm not up on all the sub genres of DS, but I dont think they develop like 4/4 tracks, unless you are in Berlin & developing new styles of DeepTechnoDubstepFusion.. so you can probably afford to have a verse/chorus/verse/chorus type structure.

I could be totally wrong - but its not on my Radar as much these days, so I cant give you any better than that Man :)

Best thing is to listen to a load of tracks & analyse the structure in your DAW. Drag it into Ableton & chop a few to see how it goes.. That'll give you some new ideas on how other folks are doing it.

61C is fantastic, bit bass heavy and the vocal could definetly come up a bit more but you should definitely develope it into a full track, bit short as it it.

link doesnt work for 3rd movement but i found it from the other link
3rd movement isnt bad but it gets a bit messy towards the end, probably beause of that dominating bassline.doesnt quite sound as nice as the other one.piano seems very weak especially in the higher notes

the sax could come up in the mix too just a bit.but to be honest the sax melody isnt up to much, think you might be better stabbing it in now and then

cheers dude tracks are only samples yet, levels are a mess on 3rd movement, only made it on headphones -dont have my monitors during the week

    Thanks for feedback!

Happy Birthday Matt! Love the build up at the beginning and the drum track is awesome on that.

I've been working on a new track since I got your comments on the last track:

    http://soundcloud.com/android-78/today-becomes-tomorrow

With this I tried keeping it pretty short and playing a bit more with the elements coming in and out throughout the tune. I had the vocal track originally going over another track:

    http://soundcloud.com/android-78/android-78-flying

but it sounded pretty kack - like a bad orbital track which is really not what you want to be calling to mind with that vocal sample! ;)

So I split the two tracks and I think they turned fairly okay. Feedback from everybody would be much appreciated. Also that thread that was on here about Reverb was great and really helped with putting these tracks together. Really helped me look beyond using presets and fiddling around with the different settings when it came to working with Reverb.

Obvious caveat here in that they're unmastered and mixed on headphones but tried to avoid things getting too mushy. Anyways if anyone out there with a decent set of studio monitors would be kind enough to have a listen and tell me how its sounding to them that would be great.

Not mushy, but the lead vocal sounds a little out of place compared to all the other elements, probably needs tuning or if you can't then transpose the track around it? - unless it's supposed to sounds eerie - i'm not hot on the genre ;)

I was going for a sort of eerie, echoy, reverb drenched effect but maybe went a bit overboard. Tbh, I don't know what genre to be labelling most of the stuff I do...

I think it helps to sit down and listen to DJ sets in the sort of genre you most enjoy and just soak it up and try and work out fundamentals now and then - eventually you can probably create something 'in genre' with confidence as you pull other tracks apart.

I've been looking at Electro (to learn more about swing and percussion) and been learning a fair bit :) - eventually i'll make more Trance, but it will have elements from Electro in the style now.... a constant state of change/musical evolution (that's pretty much what dance music is about)

If you think the vox are odd, mute them and play the track back and deal with what's left and move on!
