Everything I post is not even 50% finished ;)

    So, first off.

Be prepared and able to take criticism. Music isn't great for the ego and the only way it will improve is by facing up to the rough edges.

If you want honest feedback, then you'll get it - up to you of course if you take it.

This also being a production forum - why on earth would you post something finished seeking advice on it? - as you've finished it?

Like you could even just post a section/loop of the meat of the track - or half of it.

Soundcloud is also letting us all see what is going on (when we get the time to look at material)

Sorry for dragging this out. Don't be shy :)

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on Koyo, much appreciated lads. This is my latest one called Static Blue, worked on and completed over the weekend. Went back to the trance vibe for this, with an orchestral breakdown (a first for me :D). Any opinions or feedback on it are much appreciated as always.

Some nice ideas. Would like to hear a bit more happening after the breakdown. You should definitely finish it off and let us hear it.

Some nice ideas in there. The orchestral break is nice but it felt like it needed a bit more presence, a bit more oomph. And it would be a good idea I think to introduce it into the track after the breakdown because at the moment it nearly sounds like a track where an orchestral break was mixed in and then mixed back out.

I agree with krd, it needs a wee bit more thrown into the mix to keep it a bit more interesting.

Haven't written anything like this for over 10 years, so a bit of a special moment for me :)

Nice slice of old school trance there Matt. Really like that.

Yeah it should be longer when I finish it, might change up the intro a bit as well, it's a bit weird at the moment.

@Matt, I purposely had the volume of the kick and and the bass lower before the breakdown so when they came back in the drop would be stronger, and I wanted to kind of fade them in behind the weird sounds too. Just checked there and I forgot to put a compressor on it though...

Okay good people. I've decided to start my Soundcloud page afresh and wiped off all my old tracks. I've uploaded a couple that I've been working on since. It'd be great if you would have a listen and give us any feedback you might have. Cheers.

There's no compression on this one so you might have to turn the volume up a bit, just like the old days.

hey grimey a better way for you to get more impact is to lower the volume of the entire breakdown by around 2 dbs overall.once the drums come back in at normal volume theyll sound louder because of the volume drop in the breakdown

i'm enjoying your new tracks Android. nice to see/hear an evolution of ideas from earlier works evolving into more complex tunes.

Fortified Wine is a slick piece of work. nice oldschool feel to it without being too retro.

Onwards Again, Bam Bam and Code Of The Caribou are great too. some cool funky break-out sounds in Bam Bam.

if you don't mind some... uh... advice, i think it is a shame that your levels are a little bit off, imho. some sounds seem to spike uneasily while other more important sounds get a little submerged within the mix. i know you are using Reason (and getting some amazing sounds out of it) but the sooner you incorporate Logic/Ableton/DAWofChoice into your workflow, even just slaving Reason into individual channels, and getting the hang of some basic mastering techniques, your tunes will sound more cohesive and sounds will sit better in the mix.

that said, i hate giving advice. it always feels like backhanded criticism. which is worse than a backhanded compliment.

btw, not too sure about Love The City. i hate tracks that use Siren samples in 'em. ;)

um... at the risk of getting backhanded about the gaff, i've put up about 10 pieces of work i've lying around at the moment. these are the roughest things i've posted up on soundcloud ever. some are ideas that have been over-worked, others are sketches or doodles.

none have had any production done on them so apologies for the odd spike, drop-out, too high or too low volume, the sudden ending or even more sudden beginning...

    would appreciate any comments.

that's a lovely taster of what's to come. i agree with the advice offered by the lads regarding the mix. things need to be pushed up and sidechained. it's shaping up to be a great tune.

Here's a production tip I've learned (completely by accident) I'd like to share.

    I'm using impulse in Ableton.

Instead of dropping the volume of the kick, what you can do (in Impulse at least) - shorten the decay on the kick, using the pencil to create a decrease over time. That way, it sounds like it's getting quieter but you still have the attack at the same level. And then drop it back to normal once you want the kick to come back in as heavy as it was before.

was reading through the posts and saw some of matts saying about putting stuff up sort of through the initial ideas phase.

just started this the other night. it's what i came out the first dig at it, so no eq, mastering and not laid out in any particular way.

would appreciate any suggestions or feedback if have any i guess

won't be able to spend much time on tunes until repeat exams are out of the way :mad::mad: but plan to have a crack at this one as soon as they are

Stark Light has a nice spaced out kind of vibe to it (sounds really nice in headphones).

Hangover City has got a nice beat and vibe to it, nice bass and kick there as well before the moody synth kicks in. I like the way it continues to build up over the course of the track.

Amillionandonedreams is nicely mastered and very smooth. Lovely melodic synth there as well.

Nice stuff in there man, will defo be giving a listen to some more of your stuff when I've got time. Interesting mix of styles and all seem to be be mixed quite well.

I like the beat to this man, nice and glitchy. Think it would sound very nice with some sweeping "night-themed" synths to it to give that sun going down feel. Interesting ideas so far, will look forward to hearing it a bit further down the path.

I don't know how to Eq. And my mastering is guerilla shareware mastering.

i'm not up on the technicalities of eq or mastering myself, but at the end just try to make it sound the way i want it to i guess...

"guerilla shareware"? is it extra mastering plugins like shareware versions of WAVE? i'm using the mixer in FL studio (and Spectrasonics)

i think some of your tunes sound very high quality for sure!!

the main difference with the sound quality in mine is 100% due to the monitors i bought. what i thought was finished sound before i got the monitors and after were worlds apart.

stuff i done before is on my myspace: http://www.myspace.com/reddaveproducer the sound is terrible [edit] just browsed there and the music player is not appearing. could be the link here from work or could be myspace been total cack

I can only guess that she's just done some smack and then doing her performance art of 'how to open a can of food after scoring some smack then forgetting it's food' ;) - unless it's a canned thrush cure and she's doing a show to show locals how to apply it.
