    Hello guys,

I'm new on this site and this is my first production. Can you tell me what are you thinking about that.

    Thanks

Ah I dunno about that, there's a lot of stuff around in 3, 6/8, and even 5 and 7 etc.

Cheers for the track support lads.

@Krd, another I like about Sylenth is that all the Sonic Academy videos use Sylenth, so you can watch as someone makes a specific sound on it.

(also, there's a trick to watching all their videos for free, due to their bad web development skills)
Maybe I should change that to "95% of pop music is in 4/4" rather than modern music.

PM me the trick before the authorities see the post.

The S0nic akademy have their Google alerts set up - If you mention their name anywhere the PR and marketing girl materialises. Like Beetle Juice.

Quick she's commmmming!! - If she isn't already here.

PM'd that there krd, you should have gotten it.

Got a very rough of a new track. It's not EQd/compressed, or even arranged properly, kind of jumps into different sections. I'm basically just looking for opinions on the sample, and whether it works or not, and maybe opinions of the drums, because I did a good bit of work on them. The bass synth isn't finished, although the line might be...Just not the sound.

Did a bit more on that track. Still not finished, although I'm at a loss to know what it needs to be finished.

I have recently taken up mixing as a hobby. I have just finished my first production. I have used audacity to mix the two songs and it is very basic. I would greatly appreciate any feedback and how I could improve. I am only Starting!!

Zippyshare is fxxking with me. Can't download it. I'll try again tomorrow.

If you're stuck - just put it away for a few days. Try to schedule yourself. Like Wednesday night you're going to work on it for an hour or two.

    You've done a mashup?

It sounds fine, but it's hard to tell by listening to Youtube as the sound quality is never great.

Yeah, else I'll work on another track and come back to it. A fresh pair of ears helps a lot.

Started making some acid house/techno type thing. Very much in the early stages, but any advice on how to pad it out in an appropriate style would be welcome. The drums are intentionally cheesy, I'll probably change them. First track I've started that's come out quite heavy so I'm kind of excited about finishing it, although it's a long way away.

More squigles and squelches - and probably some more hi-hats. There's also the binary finary pack of Acid noises you could use - stretch them, pitch them, do whatever you like with them

You could also try a portmento riser - where you set the portamento on your synth really long, then draw a really low note the full length of 8 bars - you put a second note over it much higher. When it plays the note pitch should rise slowly - put some echo on it.

    Sirens.

    And whistles.

    And a guy going Aceeeedd!!

Missed Matt's acid pack, downloading it now, cheers! Yeah, doubling the hi-hats is normally the way with that kind of stuff right? Probably try that a few times along, and yeah, was gonna throw in risers etc, hadn't got to that stage yet.

You mean squiggles and squelches in the synth line? Just messing with the cutoffs etc? I'll throw a bit of that in too.

Any opinions on the synth line as it is? Ignore the middle section where the synth line goes quiet etc, was messing with the mod wheel but it wasn't set up right so it didn't come off.

It depends on what you're aiming for. Do you want to make something that sounds like it was made in 1989. Or do you want something else.

You could keep it pretty simple if you want - I've listened to it a few times - I like the bit that sounds like a vocal sample over the hi-hats - where it sounds like a voice saying something like 'stand up'.

It actually sounds like something I heard over the tannoy in the George Bernard Shaw a few months ago. Simple bassline, no major embellishments. Those repetitive basslines with only subtle changes can be really penetrating by themselves sometimes. (Ok, right a couple of minutes earlier some stranger handed me a home made cigarette). Ritchie Hawtin as Plastikman used to do that kind of stuff. While the rest of the world was going happy hardcore.

That's pretty much what I'm going for, driving simple bassline that modulated in breakdowns/buildups and kicks back in to the simple one.

Then it could be a strong case that less is more.

But it depends on what you're producing it for. If it's for dancing to it's one thing. If it's for playing as background in a pub and fcuking with peoples heads it's another.

The first part of the bass line you could strip back more - the reverb/echo on it is too harsh. You could have the reverb slowly evolving. So it slowly grows. Wait a long time before bringing the claps/snares in - just let the kick and the bass go on forever. Even put a single note string line in there that grows over ages. Put reverby lazer sounds way down in mix

You could make the bass slowly build aggression and presence over time using volume, cutoff and all that jazz.

For that Portmento thing I mentioned before - Sylenth is that good for it - it's portmento is to short. The Tal sh 101 does a much longer portmento - you can easily stretch it over 16 bars.

    That's flawless - you've mastered the genre.

You could probably do with making some of the hi hats louder and sharper(The inbetweens) and some weirdness (Dubby crows caulking or a detuned vocal sample). The snare could be a little louder and harder too.

It's perfect the way it is - and I wouldn't listen to my suggestions if I was you.

Cant fault it Steve, sounds top notch as usual.

I prefer your tracks that have a bit of soul in them, this seems a bit vacant but then again that is the sound i guess.

But the production is top notch on this one, hope to god your sending these out:)

Being in tune is over rated - embrace atonality. Embrace the atonality in you.

I think your intro is too long and spurious - it doesn't really kick in til the drum hits - then there's some good bits but it ends to soon.

It gets really cool around 2 min. 2 Min to 2.30 - you've got about 30 secounds of something really good. - if you could stretch that bit out.

Yeah it gets cool after 2 minutes then ends to soon. The long intro would be justified if the rest of the tune was much longer.

That's impressive. What'd you used to get those bass sounds? - I haven't anything that can give me those deep basses. Are you using some chorus/stereo exciter over the whole mix? Or was that on the samples for the remix?

One thing you could have done - when the aggressive bass comes in at around one minute - you could have use the pencil tool to make it jump a bit from speaker to speaker.

Your kick though - is really low - not much of a kick to it.

When I first heard it - I thought it was pretty Noobish - but then I think I'm all confused up in my mind.

After listening to it 5, 6, or 7 times - after a few drinks - it sounds like perfect comedown techno - y'know 5.30 in the morning, ye've all got back from where ever, 2 where ever - and people are having difficulties, landing the lite aircraft that is them. This is perfect "put a CD on, while we all skag" music.
