Nobody commenting on my track means either it's so good that there's nothing to say about it, so bad that nobody knows where to start on the errors, or nobody likes drum & bass around here. I take it it's the last two. :pac:

My first track, doesn't really have a proper outro and I need to work on a proper intro, but everything else I'm happy with. Let's see what anyone else has to say. It's drum and bass but influenced by harder genres like UK garage and dubstep.

Hi Exo I had a listen to this and it sounds a bit muddy. You should look at eqing the track properly so that the bass and drum sit beside each other and are clear. Also it needs to be brightened up in the higher end as well. Things like the snare sound very dead so you really need a crisper sample for something like that and when you want the song to go a bit mental you should be throwing in loads of cymbals and hats. Have a listen to the drum and bass tracks you like to see what I mean. Try and bring a bit more variety in to your drum patterns between the different sections and learn how to get a good sub bass going with good eq and you'll be away in a flash. Hope this helps you out a bit.

Yeah thanks for that, I'll get to work. :)
What do you mean by brightened up on the higher end though?

If you listen to drum and bass it works on contrasts generally - so you have heaviness of the low end in the kicks and the sub bass combined with a snap of the snares and cymbals. At the moment it sounds like your snare is hitting a towel. It needs to be sharper and clearer and generally you have all your upper frequencies sharper and clearer. Dogs on Acid is generally considered the forum for drum and bass so you should have a look through there to see what feedback they give people about their tunes.

Think just throwing in a more prominent snare here and there might help everything

Cheers Sean. I think you're right. I've updated that after messing around with some extra snares and a different kick. I think it's tying together better now.

I've also updated the other one I posted up yesterday:

Dont have a rain effect. Im pretty happy with the background tho, its just ambience from a cafe in holland.

damn, that is fine! great piece of music.

    That's really good.

Though I'm playing through my sh1tty speakers. They are not liking the bass - your bass may be a little too high. Subs don't need to be that loud to have the same effect.

I think it's too fast for a chillout piece so I'd either bring down the bpm to about 80-90 or bring it up slightly and make the drums a bit heavier and louder and make more of a housey track.

Thanks for the feedback - had been tinkering with the bpm before deciding on 118 - Lowest it will go with retaining the feel of the track is bout 109/10 but it drags a bit. Push it faster then 120 and it the percussion change on the build up sounds like a mess.

Listened to both Bliss is Adrift and Swimming Lesson. Possibly a high frequency percussion or live sounding short 4/4 cymbol hit or 2nd hit high hat towards the end of the track to lift the beat a bit on Swimming. Bliss is Adrift is sweet.

posted a new track, Reactor No 2, up on Soundcloud if anyone wants to have a listen. probably the most effort i've ever put into a track in some mad attempt to create a track that is less like my normal stuff, and more... Berghain-ish, and failing so totally and utterly.

    http://soundcloud.com/lustbader/reactor-no-2-siren-song-mix

another ambient discordant intro and layers and layers of sounds leading up to the inevitable last third crescendo i have been desperately trying to avoid.

spent like, f•cking AAAAAAAGES tweaking every sound to get stuff jump out or hide down in the mix, and freaking days structuring the bloody thing.

kinda proud of it but utterly hate it too.

so, uh, yeah... have a listen if you want to waste, like, fifteen minutes of your life. i mean, fifteen minutes??? wtf was i thinking? i can't seem to get any tune of mine in under 8 mins, let alone make a radio friendly choon.

any feedback would be welcome. even a genre placement would help...

You really threw the kitchen sink at it.

There's some really great sounds in there. - The intro is a little indulgent -

The sounds are really good. Parts you could take and put a psychedlic trans 4/4 running hi's beat and you'd have some interesting psy-trans

Thanks again, I'll keep those tips in mind. Yeah I do go on Dogs on Acid but I don't think I'd post a track there unless I was 100% happy with it. I understand they are very knowledgeable but they are unnecessarily harsh sometimes..
Anyway, I updated my track, new snares and other elements too. Not completely happy with the snares but at least it's less muddy.. let me know whatchu think. :)

Made this in Reason 4 this week - inspired by the good weather. Very basic, I didn't do any sweeps or build ups. I didn't even upload any samples - just used whatever was in Reaon 4 already.

I know I will get much better.

My main influecnes are Orbital, Erasure, New Order and trance music.

I just watched the Social Network - Your tune sounds like the stuff Trent Reznor did for it. Cept his is a little more darker.

I think what you have there is good (not a dance track - as electronic music) - I think your percussion needs to be loosened up a bit (I'm not sure how you'd do that - I think just moving some of the hits just a little off the beat). You could make the kick more percussive

    It's Disco Sh1t.

I think if it was polished up, it would be something the UK hard trance nuts would go for.

It needs brightening - it sounds muddy on my speakers. You could also make the boom kicks on the break much boomier. Try different kicks - hi's and snare. There's a UK hard trance forum where they have lots of sample kicks you can download (I think you'll find it by googling UK hard trance forum)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give the loosening up a go... :)

I must go back and listen to the Social Network soundtrack.

That's decent. Great idea, I'd say it was a bástard to do but something different. I loved that band in teenage angst but I've never listened to a single album of their since they released the black one (same with Megaduck, Rust in Piece). You'd better not post that on the rock forum, they might get a bit upset.

It's ok, I'm a metal head anyway... I should be fine ;) Cheers for the feedback :D

Hi all. I'm currently in beginner stage of electronic music production (been learning for about a month). I'm currently using FL Studio as it seems to be easiest to get into all this. This is the first track that I wrote in FL Studio. I'm looking for some feedback and criticism so I can improve. Cheers!

that is excellent for a beginners track. You have side chain compression too. I still have to use that in my tracks.

You should work it into a full track. The pluck bassline is really good. Very emotional. At least it made me feel emotional.

Yeah, I like the melody - or the melodies in there. I'm not so sure about the drums. I think it might sound good if you used more conventional sounding trance drums.

I haven't posted a track in a month - here's a dodgy clip of something I'm working on. I want to produce a few trance tracks.

http://soundcloud.com/krdnoobian/rimshot-trance-with-monks-clip It's really just a bit of F'ing around but it's got the main riff and the basic idea there.

Not a work in progress, but figured I'd post it here.

Here's my new EP, have probably posted bits of the tracks as drafts in this thread as I went along, but here's the finished product anyway if anyone's interested!

One house/tech-house tracks, one more techno track, and one garagey track.

That's very slick. You've got the sounds very clean - was going to ask how you do that, then I realised I should ask myself.

Are you playing the GBS sometime where I can hear you play this stuff? I live around the corner.

    Thanks man.

I play the Shaw most Thursdays, but not this kind of stuff, much more chilled. I think I'm doing my first ever live set in the Twisted Pepper at the start of June though. Just have to figure out how first...

Thanks a lot for your feedback guys. I'll try to make it into a full track soon and mix it a bit better. I didn't really want to make it too long so I don't bore people with it :)

These are the songs I have up. I have more nearly finished and some ideas in the pipeline.

All done in FL Studio over a period of time.

I think Zephyr is the best one I've done so far.
