Just finished this tune, house/bass type stuff.

    http://soundcloud.com/frankiegrimes/frankie-grimes-upgrade

Listened to this a few times now i like the rhythm to it a lot and the bass works really well, drums are good too, just a tad too bright for my ears.

I think you could have a nice release out of this.

    IF......

You get rid of the female vocal, maybe im listening to too much dark music these days but i think its a tad cheesey

My newest track coming soon on Pink Penny Records. The sound quality is a tad grainy coz of soundclouds encoder. appreciate feedback on it :-)

I'd say the bright highs are down to my sloppy self-mastering job.

I know the vocal wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but it's a particular style I was going for, a la:

    Hey Guys,

Not sure how to embed a soundcloud tune, but here's the link anyway.

    http://soundcloud.com/paulcmusic/paul-connolly-dancing-lights

Dont know what kind of music people are into here, but this is my new house-ish track. Pretty new to producing, have been messing around with my DAW for a couple of years on and off, trying to understand everything, but I think I'm finally at the stage where I can start producing half decent tunes.

    Thanks

Obscure German techno label. Das ist zehr kool.

Yeah i believe i posted them up here before they were signed. The reason they sound more polished i presume is because they are mastered.

Its actually an Argentinean label, although the name does sound very german!

Yeah, well the tunes don't sound like flaking about on a beach with South American bimbos in dayglo G-strings and beach wear. No....more, basement club, somewhere in Berlin, abandoned former communist building, no proper ventilation, walls floor and ceiling painted pitch black, bass line rolling like hot tar. It's four O'Clock - and the Golden Hour is about to hit. And the room is burning.

Herbst is probably a reference to the Baader-Meinhof (look it up yerself)

Anyway, it's cool, what can you say, Stephan Donaltzmann

Hey everybody, I've just finished an electro/disco remix for a competition on IndabaMusic.com and I'd really like to get some feedback. The competition is primarily to win a spot on a release by Canadian artist Lights. If you actually like the track and could help me out with some support by voting for me, it would be greatly appreciated. The link is below, thanks a million

Managed to bash this one out this week,Kinda started after Steve posted up about how to go about making dub techno chords.
Its definetly not a dub techno track(wouldn't know how to make that stuff to be honest) but thats how it took shape.

Think it could benefit from some vocals so I might throw some on after christmas if santa brings me a mic.

Anyway here it is,feedback is definetly appreciated as i think its sounding a little dull.

All the basslines, and melodies all really work together on that.

I think you should experiment with it, and stretch it out further - forget about I about typical structures, and just let it go by itself. I like some of the ideas you have in there - they're a little unexpected. Though the bit where just the clap comes in is a bit of an anti-climax - like I was expecting something a little more grandiose and epic than "here's the clap"

I think there's enough melodies and stuff there to make it 9 minutes long (does anyone make that kind of trance 9 minutes long - I've been trying to painfully work on some psy trance stuff - a lot of which is 9 minutes long - mostly I'm doing it to work on my drums, I really like psy trance drums, though I can't stand listening to much of it - even when it's mine - maybe especially when it's mine).

Your melodies are definitely much better.

Really appreciate the feedback on this man. I've listened a few times since I uploaded and definitely have some more things I'd like to try with it. The track was originally touching about 6 minutes but I just felt it was wandering aimlessly towards the end and cut some filler out. In length, this is possibly a radio edit :D

    Thanks again for the comments!

Yeah, funny you should say that - I listened to it again last night and thought "damn, I wish I'd fattened that kick up a bit"

I really need to do a check list before I finish a track.

I listened to both ur new tracks on soundcloud a few times.

Positively speaking you are quite competent in your structure and musical ideas of your songs.

The biggest piece of advice i can give to you at the moment is get some new sounds.

The synths you use in tracks sound awfully presetty and dry.

you seem to reuse the same sounds in a good few of your tracks (or similar sounds)

I find that there is no depth to the sounds you use, they are all very tinny if that makes sense? I suggest changing up vsts.

Absynth would be a good starting point if u can get your hands on that.

Youve come pretty far in regards to the standard of your tracks and im being a bit of a dick here really. But im sure you know yourself, even the simpliest of tracks and be whopper if all the sounds are massive.

    Point in case

There's a big difference between being and dick, and being a constructive dick.

There can be some really enlightening gems in criticism. Sometimes there isn't. But if you look at how genuinely vicious people are when they're criticising successful commercial artists.

I was listening to something last night - some stuff made by someone I know. He's actually a really highly skilled producer. But there were bits of outright sloppiness, and he really didn't take the productions as far as he could have. I'm not sure what happened - I think he put months into putting them together - tracks are only as strong as their weakest element, if you know what I mean. They have some really good bits, but the whole is spoiled by mediocrity. I don't know. For the genre - he really has something, but it needs work that he's well capable doing.

You're not being a dick at all! Cheers for all the feedback. I'm glad to have people point out the problems with anything I put up. I've been using only Reason for anything I've put up and while I've had fun messing around with it, it would be nice to work with something else now - financial restrictions are going to be stopping me for a while. I haven't been using presets but the sounds probably are very presetty sounding. I suppose I need to start looking at the way I'm constructing sounds with the synths I can use. Cheers though for everything you've said.

While the original sound itself is obviously important, how you process synth sounds afterwards goes a long way in making them sound better, nice EQing, reverbs, delays etc can change a My Little Pony synth into something proper.

Also, after listening to a few of the tracks, I'd also have a look at the drum samples you're using, either try layering them to fatten them up a bit, buy some proper sample packs, or go onto freesound (or even better, record your own) and try using different sounds for drums. The drum sounds sound a little generic or something.

Drum programming, vocals and synth programming are all great though, and the stuff's all in a nice style, it just needs more balls or something. Not sure how to translate 'needs balls' into proper advice though.
