http://soundcloud.com/timmoriarty/bip-bip-bop any feedback on this would be great. Ive only started using ableton live and im finding it hard to keep levels up on certain tracks without drowning out the others. any great tips would be well appreciated. dont be afraid of hurting my feelings :)

Two bits that might get you started -

Google stuff on using the "stereo field" - which is effectively panning sounds left and right to help make them stand out in the mix

Also using EQ properly would help to make stuff stand out more - like making sure the kick isn't masked by your bass by cutting certain frequencies in the bass line. This applies to your synths (usually mid-range) and your hats and cybals (hi-end). You can find loads of stuff on the net and you tube relating to EQing tunes.

Orbital are doing a remix competition with Beatport and I entered in a remix. If anyone have a beatport account and think it's up to scratch a vote would be much appreciated. Cheers

Potential for a really good track here. At the moment it sounds kind of like two different tracks, the main elements change a bit too much after the second break down. Having said that I prefer the track from 5.15 onwards. The screechy noise is interesting. I think you should take some of the lower frequencies off the kick though as it sounds a little muddy.

Not my kind of stuff so I can't really commet except to say that the production is very nice and each element sits in the mix nicely (that's my opinion anyway) :)

Gotta say I love this. Really nice programming on the percussion and the vocals are nicely implemented. Gets a bit busy at 1.56 so maybe you could reduce the levels on the vocals here and have less of the bell sounds going on. The guitar plucks are epic :D

Sorry man, I have an aversion to piano sounds! Not a fan of the main synth either, just sounds a bit weak. The melody is good but the synth itself isnt phatt enough for me (Man, I'm being a bitch today)

Thanks. Appreciate it. You are right it needs an edit and its too long, I just like each part so didn't want to cut anything. I'll probably focus more on the sounds on the second half of the song and take it down to around 5 minutes or less.

Will alter the kick. Thanks for the feedback.

Nice work here. Good chilled vibe to it. I love the small buld at 2.32. After the break you've got the elements for a serious D 'n' B effort if you added some more aggressive percussion, now that would be a stomper!

This has a real emotional value (ignore that I'm on my third pint of homebrew ale!)
Lovely strings that are reminiscent of a downtempo Orbital/Underworld. Only criticism I have is that I think the 4 4 kick doesn't quite suit the esoteric feel of the track. I think more of a breaks style percussion would add more to overall vibe.
Production values are as usual spot on.

Liking this progressive sound! I think some effects and spacious kind of sounds would have blended well with this track. Nice how it is though.

Cheers for listening! was actually trying to get something emotional accross... feel a bit of a void for that kinda thing when your mking dancefloor techno all the time.

Tried to just keep the drums minimal cause the first synth line that comes in only fitted in over 9 bars so was tough getting something that sounded nice in that weird timing!

Really nice work Steve. I agree kind of with moredith a bit with the 4/4 beat but I think that can be rectified with a couple of skipped or slightly stuttering beats every 2nd or four bar, it works well though on the appregiated part that comes in around 4.19. Lovely vibe to be sure.

Some nice work in there. I think that the rising riff that comes in around the minute mark and then played throughout should be messed around with a bit, giving a looser feel and maybe pitchshifted every now and then.

Latest track that I've been working on. Going for a kind of housey vibe on it I suppose. Samples Let's Start by Fela Kuti, Africa 70 and Ginger Baker.

I dunno dude, just doesn't work for me. Is the bassline a sample or did you program it yourself? It just doesn't sound like its fitting in right. I like the vocal sample although I think it could do with a little FX here and there, nothing too heavy just maybe a light delay/reverb. I also think the kick is very light. When you think house you think a nice pumping kick. I like the snyth you bring in halfway so maybe you could build the track around that a bit more. Anyhoo that's justy my opinion, if you like the track yourself then that's all that matters really :)

Good one here man, nice flow. Just a couple of things I'm not so sure about; there is some kind of heavy sound in there that's crashing with other sounds, it could be the kick because I'm not hearing the punch, it seems a bit drowned out. Anyway nice production vocals are working well ;)

That's pretty funky man. If it was me I'd put in a nice riser effect before the kick comes in, maybe just generic white noise one would do. Also is sounds like the kick is eq'd a bit much, could do with more low end. Only other thing I'd add is a more pronounced 4/4 hit hat (half open) when the kick comes in. I think that would add a real nice groove to it.

Super! Gonna hit the lab again once I get back home. Yup I think a riser is a must now that you mention it. Funny you mentioned that about the hi hat, was literally thinking about doing it that way after I rendered the track. Sweet :D
    Cheers!
