Here's a debut track that's ready to see the light of day...

    http://soundcloud.com/tom-mcfadden-1/chaser-by-chon

Made on a Yamaha DJX1 and mixed in Acid.

    Feedback welcome of course!

I had to live through the 80's once which was one too many. Aside from the obvious drums that's a nice track. Retrospectiveness again.

My first upload: a Lo-Fi track I recorded using a microkorg xl, kaossilator K01 and a loop sampler. I added vocal samples with audacity. If anyone has a chance please let me know what you think.

I like the idea behind this track although I don't like the distorted bass/snyth that's running through the tune. For me its too much. The samples are nice although they seem to steal the focus of the music. I'd put a little more oomph on the kick and maybe add a little more percussion to spice it up a little (I know this kind of goes against the 'lo-fi' ideal but that's just what my ears are saying :))

Thanks I completely agree as well. I had tried to make a dirty sound and I think I succeeded there but I don't think I made a track to suit that sound. So I'll try and tone down the bass and the samples and improve the drums. Also ye I'm not a big Lo-Fi enthusiast or anything I just have ****ty equipment so I just say oh it's Lo-Fi :).
Thanks for the reply I really appreciate the feedback.

Well, its not a shrinking violet of a track anyway. I like a lot of the sounds going on and for the frist minute or so I felt it had a Prodigy-like vibe to it. It's just that for me the track never seems to go anywhere. It's very much sharp transitions to another ear-shattering sound. Now as I say, I do like a lot of the sounds used but I'm just not gone on the arrangement really. (don't hate me :))

http://soundcloud.com/timmoriarty/the-cheese made this today after listening to a lot of prog rock and metal from when i was about 15. the master i ran it through is making those sound dips, ill probably sort it out tomoro. opinion/ideas would be well apreciated! :D

Pretty eccelctic sounding track there. I like the the water drop notes and and the heavy piano that comes in at the end of the track. Maybe you should bring that in earlier. I have to say though that the undulating bass/synth line that runs through the entire track is a bit grating. Maybe you should silence it every now and then just to give a few little breaks.

There's a lot to like here although it kind of feels like two different tracks.
I was immediately taken by the strings in the intro but wasn't a fan of the precussion that followed. It sounds a bit out of time to me. After the break the song builds nicely and I was pleasantly listening as I played some online golf :). Only thing is I didn't like the woodblock hits. They stick out of the mix too much for me. When you filter them towards the end of the track they sound much better.

First finished track upload since I got my new setup. Used to do a lot of stuff back in the days of the akai s2000 and VA synths. Recently got back into it using cubase 6 with omnisphere, slate drums.

    Hey guys I'm new here,

This is a new remix I made of Frankie Avalon's Venus.
Genre kind of trap, breaks, very influenced by some of Diplo's remixes.

    Some feedback would be great

    Cheers

Not enough energy on the track for me. I think you should work more on the vocal samples to get more chops and glitches going. The kick is nice and deep, liking the long decay on it. Not a fan of the synth though. The melody just doesn't have an interesting enough hook. Potential for a decent remix here. Switch is a good example of a producer who does some interesting things with vocals

I was into this for the first minute or so but after that it got a bit samey. At 4.24 you bring in a short synth sequence. I think you should bring this in earlier and use it as the main lead with a variation in the melody, even if it's just basic scaling up and down. I can hear it as an epic lead that's just out of reach! If it was me I'd fatten it up and add a bit of distortion to it and filter automation and I think you'd be on to a real banger :D

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. When you say you'd like more vocal glitches, is that during the verses or throughout the main drop sections? What don't you like about the lead synth? I have plans to layer it with another synth an octave lower, do you think this will help? Yes I agree this is lacking in the melodic department. Most of my songs I tend to focus mainly on the melody, however this time I was focusing on the rhythmic side. I'll give a listen to some of Switches productions, thanks for the suggestion. Keep them coming.

Hey thanks for the feedback Mordeith

Yeah I originally had that lead at 4.24 changing melody but the notes were pretty stock psy/goa sequence so I just left it on the one note sequence. I'll go back and see if I can come up with something different.
How did it sound bass wise? I thought it was ok listening here but listened to it in my mates house and the bass was lacking compared to other stuff that was on, havin said that he has a pretty fcuked up system where the bass knob on the amp is down fully as a default so it was difficult to gauge.

Thanks again, I'll get back to the drawing board and see what I can come up with.

With the vocals I think that the sample is too complete if you know what I mean. I guess what I'm trying to say is that without additional editing and fx it still sounds like a 50s tune as opposed to a modern interpretation. Regarding Switch if you listen to the follwing Audio Bullys remix from 1.10 onwards you can hear the type of effect I think you should try an aim for.
As for the synth, it's not the sound itself I don't like, it's just the melody is a bit (I always hate to use the word chessey) but cheesey! Sorry man, I don't want to come across as sh*tting all over your work, it's not as if I've produced anything worthy of high praise!

Bass sounded fine from here, although I'm listening on headphones, but the bass really rolls along and sat well in the mix.

Your track sounds like an early Depeche Mode track , which is a good thing...Have you considered putting any kind of vocals on it?

Solid track overall. Didn't really catch my imagination in an major way cos I think there's a big lead synth line missing. The track as it stands sounds like its just missing that final element to give it a bit more presence. Only real criticism (and it's more of a personal preference thing) is that I think you've gone a bit aggressive on the sidechaining. I'd rather a softer attack and decay rather than the extreme ducking you've used.
I'm playing it back in my head now and I keep hearing Eric Prydz - Pjanoo :D

I like this. It has a John Carpenter movie feel about it. What synths did you use for it?

It's a really good track. I really like the arpeggiated lead that comes in for the second half of it. I would agree with mordeith though about the sidechaining being a little extreme. It could do with being a little less aggressive
