Looking for feedback on this track in particular.
Its influenced by Avicii & SHM.
Dunno if it needs some lyrics or another lead synth?
It would be great to hear any suggestions and ideas.
    Even from potential collaborators.

Messing around on my piano yesterday trying out different stuff for a live electronic show which i'm working on and figured I could put together a nice cover version of Pjanoo real quick. It wasn't quick at all. Anyway here it is, lettuce know what y'all reckon!!

Main piano riff is nice and the pads are better than the original in my opinion. I'm not convinced on the bassline, just something not quite right about it (can't put my finger on it excatly though).
The high piano bit the comes in at 1.50 isn't great to be honest. I'd either leave it out altogether or add some fx to it. It's just not a great sound.
    Kudos on multi-instrumentality though! :)

I much prefer the second half although I would keep the intro. The chopped vocal is cool as well. Nice buildup to the drop as well.

Sorry man but this doesn't work for me. The strings from the Metallica track that come in at 0.53 just don't fit at all. The Bingo Players track isn't beat matched to the SHM track. I didn't notice any Metallica until near the end and then it was just a straight cut in and out. It's a very hard thing to mash-up metal and dance so I commened you for trying I can't honestly say it works.
Not being mean here, just my opinion.

yeah, its abit trickier when you start picking out of other genres, personally i liked my first part, haha...i think ill keep away from alternate tracks till i get the basics down. any advice? software to use or anything i should try out? im doing all this on ableton at the moment

I've heard mash-ups that are synced perfectly but don't work becasue the pitch of the vocal doesn't match the track. If I was you I'd start by working on a shorter project and trying to get that down. Most mash-ups use the acapella from a particular track and layer it over another number. There are various tricks to isolating the vocals but some are more effective than others.

awesome, but i wouldnt recommend making it any shorter, its already really short. really good stuff, i think abit more structure would make it the best

Just had a listen. It's ok, really good for a first attempt.
That intro guitar riff works really well with a dance beat. would never have thought of trying that, fair play to ya
I like the way it really gets going around the 6min mark. Sounds deadly.
There were a couple of things that I thought were slightly off. The guitars at the 1min sound a bit out of tune with everything else that's going on. Also, the beats seem to be slightly off at the 4min mark.
And personally, I'd probably try and keep the intro guitar line playing for longer ant the 10 min mark and let the dance beat fade out completely before I bring in the rock beat.

thankis man, yeah, i think if i didnt rush it so much it could have been something abit better. I feeel once i get the whole beat matching thing abit more perfect i might be able to pull off a proper metal dance mashup. yeah the intro could have been kept for abit more. thanks man

thats awesome, feel like there should be someone rapping over it, really want to make stuff like this myself, i like it! catchy, but it feels like theres just a minor thing missing, like something to fill it out or something like a counter melody or some reverbed ambient sounds, not sure, personally i think lyrics over it would be awesome, but thats just me. that said, its really good as is, and id listen to it for sure.

  • Registered Users Posts: 552 ✭✭✭whiterob81

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, maybe some sort of ambient noise might have helped. Was trying to keep it relatively bare sounding. I think you're right, some sort of lyrics on top might but my mcing wouldn't be the best! And I don't have a microphone at the moment anyways! But if you or any of your mates want to give it a go, fire ahead.

    That'd be cool to hear.

Just had a listen to your new track. I like that weird noise that you have coming in at the breakdown. I also like the tinkly (to use the technical term!) synthline that you have coming in after the breakdown but I have to be honest and say that I think the overall thing needs a lot of work. I'm finding the pace of it a bit too sluggish for my own liking. And the mix sounds a bit harsh. Maybe you should have a look at mastering the tune.
I think it's a wee bit too long.
It sounds like there's some interesting bass noises coming in and out of it, you should try and make them louder, bring them out more in the mix, they're a bit buried there.
You don't have any hi hats. Having a couple in there might add a bit more movement to the whole thing.
I also think that bass you have at the start sounds really raspy and a bit hollow. I'd look at trying to deepen the sound there, if that makes sense.

Sorry if I'm being a bit brutal here

thanks for the feedback, no thanks for the honest opinion, thats why i came on here, if i wanted to be told im great id ask my friends instead. Yeah i can see exactly what your saying, its far too long. i left out hi hats on purpose on this one, this song had sort of a meaning behind it for me, it wasnt exactly meant as a perfect stage performance piece. i made it slow and sluggish on purpose because i made the song up at 4 am after waking to a nightmare involving my ex, depressing i know. But youre right, overall i struggle with mastering the details with my stuff.

anymore im going to try shorten my works and not release them untill ive spent atleast 2 days mastering, i get abit hasty i guess. thanks for the feedback

Ya probably don't need to spend that long mastering. There's some good guides online on mastering. I found this one pretty useful http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/mixing-mastering/how-to-master-a-track-in-15-minutes-or-less/

I can see where you're coming from about it being like a soundtrack to a nightmare. Listening again it kind of reminds me of the soundtrack to the old dawn of the dead.

Really well put together. The vocals are nice and ethereal. I'm not sure if I like the reverb on the snare, I honestly can't decide. I'll have another listen or two and see. Nice work.

This sounds like a track that's about 85% done. I mean this in a good way :).
I was listening away and enjoying it but found myself tuning out a bit around half way through. Track needs another strong element in the shape of some lush pads or a lead synth. Lovely feel to the piece as it stands though.

Wasn't sure about this at the start but when the beat kicks in after a minute or so and it gets going it sounds really deadly. I love the original and this is unrecognisable from that, which is a good thing. I love the gated synth that comes in at about 1.40. I also love the beats that you've done for this. Deadly stuff. It's not a million miles away from something like Purity Ring in a way

Sounds good man. Kick seems a little bit light in the lower end. Might do with a bit of warming up.
