Your version is a lot better than the original anyway. I ike the way you pitched down the vocal, sounds great. Hard to make a proper judgement on the the small clip that's available for your remix though.

Yep, liking that. Bassline to me is still a bit too heavy on the lower frequencies but it's only a small gripe :)

Going for a rough gritty Justice kinda vibe I suppose with a touch of Dubstep influence in there as well - all comments appreciated

Another track made with just one synth. I've used Tunefish on this one. 13 instances and only using DAW 's native FX (apart from Voxengo SPAN)

class track! needs some mastering though, get those drums to pump out and the saw synth to buzz abit louder into your ear and youve got an awesome bloodybeatroots/cyberpunkers style track

That's deadly, for some reason it kind of reminds me of the Repo Man soundtrack, even though I know most of that was punk rock. The kick sounds a bit flat when it comes in first. It seems like it might need some reverb or something to help it blend in with the rest of the music

Impressive sounds in there, really fat basslines and it's well produced. Agree with the comments about the drums but I like the variations in the sounds - good job.

I like it, it has a sort of Daft Punk sound to it, though I'd love to hear the chord change at around the 3:12 mark (in the background) be more prominent - that could be my laptop and headphones though. I like the lead synth sound but maybe a little more variety in the drum loops might help. Still, for one synth you've done a great job!

    cool, thanks.
I know what you mean about the kick. I wasn't entirely pleased with it myself. I find it pretty tricky getting a good kick solely from a soft synth.
I've read a tutorial creating a kick from scratch, on it but have yet to do anything practical on it.

Really good. Sounds very well produced. Again I'd echo what the others have said that the kick and snare could do with a bit of beefing up to add a bit more edge to them. At the moment they seem a bit 'soft' in respect to the grittiness of the rest of the sounds.

Just though i'd get a bit of feedback on these

    https://soundcloud.com/ryan-j/blackfield

Nice intro with cool pads. Some of the fx sounds sound a bit off in terms of fitting into the vibe of the track. Sounds pretty tight, and the little vocal sample is cool. Probably could do with shortening the track or else introducing a bit more variety later on. Easy to listen to though.

I wouldn't be a fan of this type of house, but you have a nice shuffle on the hi-hats. Vocal is pretty decent as well, but I don't like the piano stabs, they just sound a bit flat. As I said I wouldn't like this style anyway, so my opinion here is a bit biased in a negative way :)

Thanks for the feedback man, i'll take it on board!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭Sky King

I don't like the piano either man and it's seriously lacking on the bottom end for my tastes - I think a fat funky bassline would bring those stabs up nicely - dunno what's going on there with that bass - seems extremely thin and i feel its overly stacatto

On the plus, the beat is nice and the vocals sound good.

Hmm, the stabs seem thin and overly stacatto or the bass?

The bassline.. I would do a rolling groovier one and have it in a lower register... it just seems to be lacking in low end grunt i think... and if you had that driving the track, the stabs would seem less flat

Disclaimer: I'm no house production expert - my opinions only :)

haha no worries man cheers, i'll have a mess around with it! :)

Would like some feedback on my first track. It's pretty straight ahead house with some samples, double bass and little bit of flute from the sample too. I was getting of trying to mix it down and master it to some degree so I've drawn a line under it for now. Any constructive feedback on the mix and general vibe of it would be great. I'm hoping that within the next year I'll really be able to get out the kind of music I want to a more professional level.

Thanks all! Hope this link works.

Not bad for your first effort, some nice use of samples though I don't like the additional one that comes in after 2:20. Personally I think the kick drum could use more punch and the drums in general need a little more variety, some additional off-beat sounds perhaps. It's quite a minimal tune, no real ups or downs but this is the sort of thing you'll learn as you go.

    Good start, keep it up!

Thanks for that. Yeah, I know it just bumps along, didn't really know how to spice it up in a suitable way really. The kick was very subby but I didn't want to make it too punchy either. I think it does need to punch through more but I hope to get a better ear for where the balance is that I want. Thanks again.

Like SkyKing says, the kick is lacking some punch. I like the deep bassline that comes in at 1.21. Vocals are decent, although I think they're a tad loud in the mix. I don't like the hi-hats however, they sound like they're very low bit-rate samples or something, just a bit wishy-washy.
Nice tone on the flute sample though. Maybe that could have been more of a prominent feature.

The vocal that plays from the start could be turned down a small bit and maybe add a small of reverb or delay just to give it a nice tail. The vocal that comes in at about 28 sec sounds nice with the reverb and delay on it maybe use similar settings on the earlier vocal??

I like the reverb on the clap but again maybe a tad bit loud.

The offbeat hat that comes in after like 30 secs is way too loud it eats up the mix when it comes in.

I like the bass that comes in at about 1 min 20secs. But maybe solo just the bass and kick and eq the bass to fit the kick as i think they are both fighting for the same frequency space. Also im not sure if the bass is beig sidechained? I don't really get the pumping feel from it. Consider sidechaining the bass if you have not already. If you have then maybe bring the threshold down further.

Personally I think if you do all of these things you will improve the mix of your track immensely and it should also help the kick drum punch a bit more though the mix.

All in all excellent effort for your first track, much better than some other efforts I have seen on soundcloud. Well done :D

kick sounds fine(listening using HD595 seinheser+cheapo intel soundcard), hihats sound too bright+mashed(not really lofi, more like low quality samples), little bit distracting.
    overall pretty good mix

New track, had to just call it quits with it as I could have just kept tweaking it, but I need to move on!! Similar style to my last but hopefully with some decent low end sounds, unlike my last!
