he played the hand horribly. Pressure will make you do things like that. Hes obviously a descent player to go deep back to back.

Tbh going back to back doesn't obviously say anything about his abilities. Good luck to him, he seems sound enough I guess.

    A TV Hand
From the button Tom Schneider opened with a raise to 110,000. In the small blind, Dennis Phillips announced a re-raise, and he made it 310,000 to play. From the big blind, chip leader Darvin Moon four-bet it up to 675,000, drawing a quick fold from Schneider. Phillips wasn't so quick to act though, and he would think things over for several minutes. After cutting down and counting his own stack, he elected to make the call. Heads up then, the flop brought 8s.gif4c.gifAs.gif. Phillips slowly checked, and without missing a beat, Moon continued out with a bet of 750,000. Phillips would go for a long soak in the tank this time, clearly agonizing over a difficult decision. There were periods of complete stillness alternated with periods of chit-chat, though the conversation was too soft to hear from the table. Phillips finally asked if Moon would show, and the reply was affirmative. "Really, so you'll show if I fold?" Moon nodded again. Finally, and reluctantly, Phillips open-mucked Qs.gifQh.gif. True to his word, Moon showed up Ad.gifKs.gif, drawing a big slap on the felt from Phillips. The two men shook hands and exchanged further pleasantries as the dealer pulled in the cards and pushed the pot to Moon. It was a good flat-call preflop and a good laydown thereafter that will keep Phillips alive though he's been dropped down close to 1,000,000.

    Wow the yanks are mental.
    Ivey, Ivey, Ivey
Under the gun, Ryan Fair opened with a raise to 100,000. Three players (Phil Ivey, Blair Rodman, and Gabriel Vezina) came along with him to the flop. It showed up Qh.gif4s.gif2c.gif, and the action checked four ways. The turn card was the 3h.gif, and the first two players checked. Phil Ivey figured now was a good time for bet of 260,000, and it was good enough to win him the pot right there. From the rail: "Ivey, Ivey, Ivey" Across the rail: "Oy! Oy! Oy! Mr. Ivey is sitting on 6.2 million chips now, breathing down the neck of the chip leader.

Esfandiari totally beneath the radar, covered up by the Ivey hype machine

Someone like Ivey getting to the final table or better yet, winning it, would be great for poker I think. It would be akin to Tiger winning a major again. The interest would soar when possibly the biggest name is involved.

  • Registered Users Posts: 38,529 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Yeah if he got to the final table it would be huge for poker, but as said earlier Denis Phillips would be the dream winner for poker. An amateur from last year getting back there again and pulling it off would get a lot of new faces into the game.

    Ludovic Lacay 5965000

Tricky french guy who knocked me out of the GJP short handed deepstack tournament in Drogheda a few years ago. It was very hard to put this guy on a hand and from looking at the reports the players in vegas are not finding it easier. "Oh, he actually had a hand this time". One report said he was playing every hand for the last hour! Very good player post flop and would be no surprise to see him do very well

I just google the guy, I played with him as well. Very, very aggressive, constantly raising, lol. Very, very dangerous. I got the better of him though. :D

    Unfortunate exit hand for Eastgate:

Billy Kopp came in with a raise to 105,000 from early position, and Dennis Phillips made the call in the next seat over. Action came around to Peter Eastgate in the small blind, and he moved all in for 445,000 total. Both Kopp and Phillips eventually called to put Eastgate at risk.

The board ran out {6-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {3-Hearts} with the two live players check-checking it all the way down. Phillips missed everything, and Eastgate tabled {A-Diamonds} {J-Spades} for top two. It was no good though; Kopp showed up {8-Spades} {8-Hearts}, having rivered the winning four-flush.

That's the end of the road for defending champion Peter Eastgate. He put on a great show, and he seemed to have the support of the masses as he made his second consecutive deep run, but he just couldn't get anything going today. His quest for a legendary back-to-back championship will come up about 75 places short.

Very good show by him, Phillips and OCrowe to go very deep again. People say Eastgate isn't a good player, I think its a bit harsh. He's not dynamic or anything, or inclined to be making massive moves, but he clearly has a great temperment and discipline which I think must suit a tournament of the length of the ME, and is prob a better skill, provided you get some cards, than having balls and aggression in an event like this.
