A lot of browsers have in-built spell-checks. Try Firefox or Google Chrome (bit buggy with the new menu).

No, for instance the one on Machine Nation's forum works perfectly. The Boards.ie one uses American English. Color instead of colour, realize instead of realise.

Very irritating... Especially considering certain moderators penchant for slagging off posters spelling now and again.

I suppose the one in the Leaving Cert. forum is similar?

Boards.ie does not have a spellchecker implemented.

Firefox comes with one built-in as far as I know, so if it's using an American English dictionary, that's because you've told it to.

    There is a spellchecker

It can be changed to Queen's English.

The firefox spell checker is an add-on.

    For example, the British one:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3366

    spell.jpg

When installed, you can right click on the red underlined words for spelling suggestions.

I installed it ages ago, but I'm nearly sure that's the add-on.

edit: My add-on is the same version as that link (British English Dictionary 1.19) so yes.

No this is what appears when you press the spell check button

    spellchecker_thumb_1.jpg

It highlights words spelt incorrectly and you can either "ignore" or "change" and you're given a few choices of what to change it to.

    Did I misunderstand the question?

If you have the add-on installed, right clicking on the underlined word (shown in my screen cap) will display suggested corrections in the context menu.

Just out of curiosity do you have that one?
    /QUOTE]

    Don't have it.

What browser is that screen cap from? If it's Firefox, perhaps it's a different add-on?

The one I have does fine for me, tbh.

Defo ieSpell. Just installed it and now using IE7 I can see the little abc "tick" icon in the top right corner.

OP If you click on Tools on your IE BAR (top right) There should be an option in the menu for !isSpell options" You can choose English UK there.

    ???
    Why is that exactly? Bod...

Guess it waas my browser all along then.

So, the one on Machine Nation had me confused, presumed it was part of the boards thing too...

Don't seem to have an IE bar, presume it's an microsoft thing. Firefox/Mac here. Spell check turned off.
