Thanks for the quick reply Matrim.

it installed, but now saying "unable to send message"?

Have rebooted but still same error message.

Internet is working grand, full signal.

problem solved - put the number in wrong - my bad, apologies.

    Thanks Matrim, all working now.

As always, boards.ie, the answer to everything :)

Is there any disadvantage to having testing over devel?
no danger of problem apps etc bricking the phone?

    Have a good weekend.

No problem. Good to hear it's solved and now I can let a few other people know a workaround to the problem :)

On the repositories, devel is more dangerous than testing. When an developer uploads an application it goes to devel, from there he is supposed to test it himself (with help from others) to make sure it is working.
Once the dev is satisfied that the application is user ready, he moves it to testing for more general testing by more users. So some apps in devel may not be user ready and could cause problems.

    The general recommendation is
Extras - Most normal non technical users
Extras-testing - Technical users who want to try more software or help test software.
Extras-devel - Advanced users who don't mind that the software might cause problems and are willing to re-flash if a problem occurs.

Personally I use testing unless there is a specific application or version from devel that I want to use, in which case I enable devel, install the application, then disable devel.

Got it working with OpenVPN after all. I had the daemon insalled, but not the applet. Doh!

    Muzu.tv, here I come!

Very disappointed with the quality of muzu.tv. The videos are all jerky and almost impossible to watch. And it's not a buffering problem, I let it buffer about a minutes worth of video before hitting play.

And it looks so good on the big tv. :(

I found the same with RTE player, but I hope that whenever we get Flash 10.1 it improves it because 10.1 is supposed to introduce hardware decoding of codecs

Is flash 10.1 in the upcoming 1.2 release?

I don't know. There hasn't been much info on when it will be released

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,992 ✭✭✭✭partyatmygaff

I'd imagine 10.1 is going to be released near enough the same time as the Android version which is mid may apparently.

Speculation on the maemo.org forum is that PR1.2 is expected 15th may or thereabouts so it may be included.

Is there not speculation firmware upgrade will coincide with the launch of the handset in Asia, which I think is late next week?

Just a quick shout that pr1.2 has been leaked.

currently have it on my n900 and it works perfectly.

    few things to note
    Touch response is much better,
    Scrooling is much more smoother,
    Ussd codes work,
streaming from wlan network works perfectly!!
    Camera now has night mode,
No more 'More' all apps are on same menu and you can arrange as you see fit,
    Email widget
Ovi maps has a few updates(No navigation)
long button press of blue keys now works!!

Few more things aswell but i will go through it more later!!

if anyone wants me to check something just ask

think I'll wait for the official build but from looking at the thread on TMO someone said
GOOGLE TALK VIDEO CALLS CAN BE INITIATED FROM THE PHONE NOW!

Also, any chance you could check if WebTexter and Extended Call Log still work on PR1.2?

Good stuff! I see Maemo.org has crashed.. wonder why? :))

Anyhoo can you have a look at Youtube and RTE Player to see if they run any better? Does the FM radio (receiver and Transmitter) still work?

Also thing like response times and loading times for stuff like maps.

    Thanks dude!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

Apparently the Flash version is the same as the previous one, and according to this thread on TMO, 10.1 will be on the N900 in June

Yep read that but I wanted to see if the firmware update helped it play any better.

I use the Gpodder app for Video podcasting and it plays videos perfect so it's not all that bad if 1.3 didn't help flash that much.

    Checking my emails:

Instant send and receive on the 3 network
Instant send and receive on my UPC wifi connection

No send and receive on a relations Eircom wifi connection though internet is fine.

Thought this might be related to netopia problem and changed dns but this has no effect. It just won't send and receive at all on the Eircom wifi.

    Any ideas?

(ps I still want the damn N900 to be able to stream quicktime for my cctv - when will this codec be available?) (though Matrim kindly offered some suggestions which were beyond my technical ability! :o)

Very cool. I'm going to wait for the official update though. There's nothing there too exciting to justify a reflash.

Quick question. When the official PR1.2 comes out, i may just reflash my device as its startign to get bogged down. Do i lose all files/music stored in the 30~GB partition? I would presume not, but im not 100%.

youtube is still pretty much the same!! fm radio and transmitter both work the same as before.

Actually, it's probably better if you don't post the link.

Not sure where we stand on something like this, so best err on the side of caution. :)
