Anyone else finding a weird problem with the browser when browsing boards (I use the mobile version if it makes a difference) if you zoom in to change page, when the new page loads it is still zoomed in

Thanks. I actually went playing around with it and found that if you set browser.shistory.preservezoom to false in about:config and restart the browser it seems to go back to the old behaviour :)

Also, I'd like to try get the newest version of WebTexter into the main extra repository if possible.

After people have used the new version (0.7.9) for a few days, if you are happy can you up vote it at http://maemo.org/packages/package_instance/view/fremantle_extras-testing_free_armel/webtexter/0.7.9

I've been using it for a few days without issue. Thumbs up from me.

ED: Ah, I see you have just updated it. I'll update to 0.7.9 now

Done! Didn't know how or where to vote before :o so I'm glad you put the link here. How many people have to vote before you achieve entry into the main repository? I'm sure that most Boardsies who own the N900 must be using it.

I tried it last week and the app failed to open up (exited before the GUI opened). I just tried it again now and it works :-)

On holidays in Germany last week I tried sending webtexts over wlan but three prevented me from sending from my phone (tried microb and firefox) so I got hit for roaming text rates. Hopefully next time I'll be sorted with WebTexter!

Didn't notice in the PR 1.2 changelog that they have changed the colour of the led displayed when charging from yellow to a muted green - not very useful info but I do prefer the colour now. :)

it turns into solid green when charged. Mine still blinks orange while charging.

Well I'm charging mine via usb on my laptop now and its flashing green - not solid but it was solid this morning when I woke up - it charges via power socket at night.

    Maybe I need a reboot...

I could live w/o the physical keyboard.
    So could I, I just don't want to :D
If they try to fob us off with another 5MP camera on a 'high end' device however all bets are off.
You do realise that too many MP means a fuzzy image because of basic physics, right? Besides, it's a phone. The N900 camera is perfect for what it'll be used for - anything more complex than point-n-shoot and you should be getting specialised kit anyway. The N8's camera is... well, more marketing than photographic perfection...

Yes but now that every phone on the market has a 5MP camera, the novelty is wearing off.

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Yeah, but I don't want a novel phone, I want one that does what I need it to do. N900's the closest thing to that on the market at the moment.

@john, what is the free space on rootfs of your device? you'll need it fairly empty before the update will download and install.
I un-installed a heap of apps and disabled all unnecessary repos then the update went fine.

    -Coley.

Hi coley, 23.16GB on N900 and 1.85GB Memory for Installable Applications, I have still got the unessessary repos turned off, the only ones remaining available are Nokia Software Updates and Nokia Applications

Thanks, i saw that info before, im not too keen on losing everything the phone has on its memory and also the details outlined in that link are well over my head!

What you have listed there is free space on the internal memory. You need to check free space on rootfs.

Go to terminal and type in
    df -h

It will list free space. Scroll back to the top of the list and check free space in rootfs. You can see below I have 80mb free. I think you need approx 60mb for the latest update.

Folks, what are the benefits of the Wifi Switcher app for my type of use?

I only ever turn on the wireless radio when I need it. When I am done I disconnect. Am I missing something?

You might get some very minor battery improvements but it wouldn't be much. Personally I don't bother with it.

Although I do use the personal IP Address widget which has an option to tap to connect \ disconnect from a network.
I think there's another widget that does something similar too.

Have you uninstalled the last app on your phone that you mentioned? If you don't want to flash, it may be the one causing the problem. As I said before, what have you got to lose?

I use my Wlan (default connection) all the time at home, so I value the Wifi switcher. It also has the option to [re]connect to any connection and lists them all, including the mobile operator and fmms, in the notification area at one tap. I find it saves my battery, especially at night.

Hi i just uninstalled the DrNokSnes app and switched the phone off and on..so far nothing has happened. The phone has now got no apps and all the repos are disabled apart from the nokia ones..I really am stuck now!!

It seems there's no choice but to flash, I'm afraid :( I can understand your concerns - it looks a bit daunting to me too, but everyone here and on Maemo seems to recommend it. Back up your information and contacts (transfer to your PC for surety) and bite the bullet is all you can do. Did you check again to make sure the update is not in the App Manager when you click on Update? Don't mean to be insulting you, but maybe it just won't come in OTA. Mine didn't - I had to install via Update.

Still not sure how it would help me. I can select any connection I want with one tap without it?

Sorry, no, I suppose it wouldn't be of much use to you if you seldom use wifi. I was just remarking on how useful I find it to switch between connections in the notification area and to know for sure that I'm not using up credit or battery as the case may be. Horses for courses ... :)

Turn your n900 (also S60) into a wifi hotspot.

Joikushop this weekend only 5 Euro! (Reg 15 Euro)

    http://www.joikushop.com/

Ok someones probably going to say you can get a free one somewhere but this is no long a beta, it's a full app.
