Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Audi A8 handbrake adjustment?

Brought my brother's 1999 Audi A8 4.2 for its NCT this morning. The car passed, but I noticed that the handbrake has enough travel to hit the drivers side armrest when I pull it up. I dropped in to Jetstar (who serviced the car last week) on my way home, and they said that there was no linear adjustment on that car, and that the only way to rectify the problem was to replace the (half-worn) rear brake pads. Does this sound reasonable?

If the handbrake controls the calipers which i suspect it does, then replacing the brake pads will have little or no effect on lever travel.

The cables may have stretched. Check if there is any slack at the lever itself in the car.

    Congrats on passing BTW!

Thanks for that, guys. Had a read through the links, rang Jetstar and told them that it was adjustable, they're going to do it in the morning. They'd previously quoted €200 for new rear pads as the only solution - makes you wonder, eh?

The germans make/engineer their cars in such a way everything like this is adjustable.

It struck me as a crazy explanation too, but I needed to have my facts straight before going head-to-head with the garage!
