EDIT: I have an OCZ Vendetta (its got copper pipes on the bottom) for my Q6600.I'd like something reasonably priced and have a good spreader with it

I tried the Coollaboratory Liquid Pro and it welded the cooler to the chip, great temps tho, 3-5' better than Arctic silver, but not worth it for the hassle it caused

+1 on the AS5. Note that a slightly thicker layer (i.e. "only" nearly-microscopic) of thicker-consistency thermal paste (i.e. not dribbly stuff) plus higher downward force during installation is best for HDT coolers as there are slight gaps on each transition between the bottom and the heatpipes. You don't want air voids there do you?

Liquid Metal is the win. Shame it basically welds your cooler onto the IHS Only worth it if you're going to be using something that's strong enough to take advantage of the reduced resistance and stay good for a loooong while, like a CCF or a BARAM

Forgot to say - Noctua's thermal goop is supposed to be good as well, especially given its a bit more viscous so it seems to work well with HDT (more accurate void-filling-in). HardOCP use it for benching high-end coolers etc.

I prefer 'OCZ Freeze', it's supposed to have better heat conductivity than silver type paste. For best method to apply paste to HDT cooler - see here
