Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    October 1st -4th 2009 I.N.E.C Killarney

The Ladbrokes.com Irish Poker Festival will again be held at the best poker venue in Europe, the Irish National Events Centre (INEC) in Killarney, Co Kerry, Ireland. The INEC is at the heart of a vibrant hotel and leisure complex, which includes the famous Thai Angsana Spa. Ladbrokes online package winners will be staying at the Gleneagle Hotel which is adjacent to the INEC.

Last year every event was a sell-out, with a European record 832 players competing in the Main Event. After three days action, local lad Jimmy McSweeney walked away with a €100,000 first prize.

This year, the three day Festival will be held between the 2nd to 4th October and the €550 Main Event will once again guarantee all players a whopping €250,000 guaranteed prizepool. Players will start with 15,000 chips, one hour blinds and will earn European ranking points!

The Festival also includes two side tournaments, a two day €270+30 tournament Saturday 3rd October and a one day €150+20 tournament on Sunday 4th October. You will also have exclusive access to Ladbrokes hospitality facilities. Here you will find a games room with pool and darts to help you relax in between all the poker action.

In addition to the poker, the host town of Killarney is synonymous with Irish hospitality offering a great range of night-life associated with Irish music and having the craic! If you have not been to Killarney before, flights from Stansted to Kerry (KIR) are currently available for as little as £2 each way plus taxes but check online for all the latest offers.

So make sure you don’t miss taking your seat at the biggest poker tournament on the European Poker Circuit and win your Irish Festival Package today!

    Really looking forward to this...

Hotel and flights booked already, and I think the general concensus on the poker scene is that it was the best event of the year, in 2008.

The only grumble about last year's festival was the FOOD!

Just a reminder to look in to this in plenty of time for this year!

    See ya'll there.

    Martin. :D

Neil/Connie, I emailed the Gleneagle and the Brehon today in order to book a room and they got back to me saying that Ladbrokes had booked out the entire Gleneagle and the Brehon was available Thursday & Friday but booked out Saturday(She is going to get back to me with the rates). Does this mean that in order to stay at the venue one must sat in online? Or can I book a room through Ladbrokes? Cheers.

    Hi Ollie,
The seat (chair) issue has been addressed already and wont be a problem this year.

Also, the food issue raised its head at the meeting between ourselves and the hotel and the hotel management have undertaken to have that issue put right this year. I'm confident they'll come up trumps.

I dont know what the wow is about Nicky ?

There is ten operators chosen from last year who got seats out that were given an allocation of seats again this year to be precise 150 seats.

Ladbrokes have the majority of the seating this year and the main route is Online Qualification . We have some Seats ourselves and will be using them for Sats in the Waterford Area through Big Slick and I am sure connie will be doing the same . And when i say we are limited this year its really going to be tough as we know not everyone will get in to this event same as last year but we will try our best to accomodate as many as we can .

    Regards

I dont know what the wow is about Nicky ?

so this is the biggest land based tourny of the year(number's wise) and some of our regular tourny players might not get to play. For example i play 2 sats and dont get a seat and im not willing to play another sat as i would rather buy in at this stage or even travel down thursday for the super sat(4 hours) and still don't get a ticket do i turn around and drive home?????????????????????????????????? is there any point in even booking a hotel at this stage. Disappointing IMO

Disappointing IMO

I dont know what the wow is about Nicky ?

There is ten operators chosen from last year who got seats out that were given an allocation of seats again this year to be precise 150 seats.

Ladbrokes have the majority of the seating this year and the main route is Online Qualification . We have some Seats ourselves and will be using them for Sats in the Waterford Area through Big Slick and I am sure connie will be doing the same . And when i say we are limited this year its really going to be tough as we know not everyone will get in to this event same as last year but we will try our best to accomodate as many as we can .

    Regards

    Neill

Hey Neill sorry I should of clarified the wow for you, just thought it immensely impressive that it looks like you will fill an event this size without direct buy-ins, WD. However I suppose as John points out it maybe does cause a few problems for players hoping to just buy in

Sound Nicky u werent on msn so didnt understand it really . Yeah we have little control over the entries this year and we have sqeezed the most seats i can for both Big Slick and Cue Club . Ladbrokes main priority is online and im sure there will be direct buy ins if these are not filled closer to the date .

Of course myself and Connie will do our upmost to get as many regulars of ours in as possible

    Regards

This was undoubtedly THE stand out event in Ireland in 2008 and it was a pleasure to play in (I finished around 110th).

What I, and others, are no doubt disappointed about though is that fact that the organisors, Ladbrokes, have seen fit not to allow direct buy-ins to this event but to simply allow those 'lucky' enough to win a seat via one of the weekly, and live, satellites to enter!

    This is simply unheard of!

Is this an attempt to restrict the number of entries? After last years 800+ entries you would have thought that Ladbrokes would have been chomping at the bit to accommodate a similar number but from what it appears it looks like you have to be a member of a 'lucky crew' who have played in a satellite and been fortunate enough to gain a seat!

How many satellites would you have to play in in order to be guaranteed the status of 'lucky'? 1, 5, 10?

I feel this 'no direct entry' lark is fine for a cruise to the sun (well actually even they have direct buy-ins) but to have one of the most enjoyable events in Ireland become a closed shop to the lucky ones is not appreciated at all!

Again players i have to direct you with these enquiries to Ladbrokes and i still say that at this present time Direct buy ins are not an option . If Ladbrokes do not get rid of there seat allocation i am sure they will release there seats but up until that point they need to reserve there seats for online qualification as it would be fairly embarrising for a Plc to have online qualifiers for their own event and the event to be sold out ..Please note the event is Capped at 800 this year . I am sorry i cannot be more of assistance at this point .

Please direct all queries to Jo Sherring, Ladbrokes Events on +44 1372 277 722 or irishfestival@ladbrokespoker.com

No direct buyins is a joke. I don't care whose decision it was, but if last year was such a roaring success why the hell try and restrict who can play it?

It might as well be in Luton next year for all the difference it is going to make to Irish Poker imo. Very magnanimous of them to allow direct buyins if they don't fill their seat allocations.

watch this turn into the U turn of the year!!

more cases of Foot Shooting IMO

my plan was to lodge 100 on laddies and then just buy in if I didn't qulify with my 100..

won't even bother with the 100 now

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,855 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

No, they'll still probably sell out with sats, or easily make the guarantee at least. What they will do is lose a lot of general goodwill for future events from those that would have travelled from other parts of Ireland to play this.

How can this even be advertised here then really, its of no use to us, just free advertising for ladbrokes, sure there giving us nothing

Eh its a tourny in Ireland that Big Slick and Connie are involved in. Thought that would have been obvious.

Lets be straight to the point with yourself richie

1.U will not play anyhow even though u will show interest and put ur name down same as the last event in Killarney

    2. Ladbrokes are Guaranteeing €250,000 for a €500 buy which is unheard of

3.The event is open to online Qualification at the moment and thats all i can say at the moment if that change as i said i will let u know .

Yeah it is, you can sat in and get the train or drive to a big tourny.

I don't like the whole sats only thing, but it still deserves to be here.

    Hey Macs ,

Ladbrokes are not saying that Direct Buy ins will not be availble just that they are not available at the moment. If the allocation that they have is not used then it will be opened to the Direct buy in i i am sure .

Again i have to stress we at Big Slick or the Cue Club have no control over this as we are only the operators of the event

What you on about train or drive to a big tourney?

Meh its debatable, sat thing seems crazy though, fair enough qualify as many as possible online but you have to allow buyins, not sure why they didnt go with 2 day 1's if demand was this high.

We put this to Ladbrokes Mick but they did not see the benefit as the event works the way it is They hotel can also only cater 800+ so its no benifit to them either. This suggestion is great if Ladbrokes agreed we could accomadate everyone .

    Hi Mick,
There will be "x" amount of direct buy-ins, but whether that will be enough to satisfy the hunger of the Irish poker public is another question.

Neil is being honest with the boards.ie members in that direct buy in seats are as of yet, not made available to us. We have been allocated seats for 10 operators in different parts of the country (16 for each) so far + an allocation for the tournament operators, Cue Club and Big Slick. I would expect more to come but until such time as we are informed of that then theres not much more we can do.

You can be sure that we will do our upmost to ensure our fellow fembers on boards.ie get to play in the festival.

I know that last year, Ladbrokes had to refuse loyal customers of theirs who wanted to buy in to the tourney during the last week or two as it had by then, been completely sold out. So I expect the delay in releasing "lots" of direct buy-in tickets is to ensure they can look after their customers.

Why was the winning formula from last year not deemed good enough this year?

Are Ladbrokes players more important than people who would rather not play a satellite for this?

Personally speaking, if I am going to play an event around the 500 or under mark I will never play a satellite as it will only cost more if you don't actually win a seat.

With a mod hat on, I have deleted a few crap arguing posts after my last warning. I don't care who started it, arguing is not good for threads. Posting questions and getting answers is.

Yeah i understand your position Connie. I suppose it makes sense from their point of view to get new players to sign up to try and qualify and then end up playing on the site, live players dont put money in Ladbrokes pocket.

Seems to be huge demand though, could easily get 1200+ players if they can fill 800 on online sats.

    Hi Mick,

There wont be 800 filled in online satts. My guess is that it will be half and half, or close enough to that. You can be sure that ladbrokes will allow their customers to direct buy at some stage.
But I think they want to see how the weekly satts are going, make sure they keep enough seats so that their customers who dont satt in can get a chance to buy a seat. I know how dis-appointed they were last year when they had to say no to some very good customers because all seats had at that stage been sold. I think that's what they are trying to avoid this year.

We could have filled 1200 last year imho, and could easily surpass that this year if a decision was taken to go with 2 x day 1's. But for whatever reasons, it was decided not to change something that was working.

    Hi Dom,
I dont think they're going to vary too much from last years winning formula, except they are going to make sure that they keep enough tickets for their customers this year, a mistake they made last year and one they are not going to repeat.

When we spoke with them about the possibility of doing 2 x day 1's, the main arguement against it was why change something thats working?

And I suppose, to Ladbrokes, Ladbrokes players are more important than peolpe who aren't. That must be pretty natural for any buisness.

Last year, a €250,000 guarantee for a €500 buy in, was a big risk to take, and with it being Ladbrokes 1st foray into the Irish live market, they were happy to allow us as operators to get as many seats out as we could in off-line satts and buy-ins to ensure the guarantee was met and at one stage, thought we wouldnt sell enough seats to meet the guarantee.

I presume that this year, they would be much less nervous about meeting the guarantee and having made the mistake last year of releasing all tickets for sale,(and maybe being surprised at the amount of people who were going to directly buy-in) and finding themselves with no tickets left with 2 weeks to go and lots of loyal Ladbrokes customers trying to buy into the tournament and they having to say no to them, then they were not going to get caught this year, hense the delay in releasing direct buy-in seats.

Hope I'm not repeating myself here,

    Connie

    Connie,

I am a Ladbrokes player, signed up to their site and bought in last year for the Kilarney event directly via their poker room online. This option is currently NOT available for this years event!

Surely, as a customer of Ladbrokes I am entitled to enter any event that Ladbrokes deem to put on, for their poker players, via ANY method I choose and not to be put into a cubby hole until THEY deem it necessary to allow me, the customer, to buy into an event the way I want to?

I think what the majority of people on this forum are saying is that its basically unfair that Ladbrokes do not allow a direct buy-in to an event and this should be addressed sooner rather than later!

    :(
