Multi Car Policy - Where?

I currently have a car and a full no claims bonus on it. I'm looking to purchase a second car, however my insurance company says I'm not allowed to use my no claims bonus on that, so I have to start from scratch and the quotes are coming in at a crazy amount.. almost the value of the second car.:rolleyes:

Does anyone know of a policy I can get that will cover both cars at a reasonable price?

    Thanks,
    Tox

Never heard of one in Ireland, this "no ncb on a 2nd car" seems to be the rule here.

Is the second car for your use? If not does the person who will be using it have no NCB? Or at the very least a lower quote.

Its solely for my use at the moment.. have open drive on my main car so anyone who needs to can use that car, this is only for my personal use.

Its not even a new car, its a 95 Golf..

I've two cars insured at the moment and couldn't get them under one policy, I'd to take a second one out with no no claims discount so when I took it out I said it was only a second car, not going to be used much etc etc so got a bit of a discount. Both cars are with Axa and I found them helpfull.

Thanks, have shopped around a bit and to be honest, no one is coming down on price.. so not sure whats gonna happen. Might be an idea to take it off the road and fix it up, then worry about insuring it.

    Thanks,

If the car was 1989 or so you could put it on a classic policy.

This association mainly specialises in old tractors but they've advertised that they can provide classic insurance for 15 year old cars, maybe next year?

Its a 1995 car, so will be a while before its a classic.. just a cheap run around to have when I dont have the use of my car as nothing worse than needing a car and not having one.. :D

It's like the guy who reads the exam paper and sees the question : "Do you know the superpositional theory of quantum physics entails?" and smugly writing down "yes".

I have my primary car with FBD. They wouldn't duplicate my NCB for a second car, but a broker in Dublin called Gogans sorted that out for me. I got a full NCB when I produced a letter from my current insurer that I had one. 01-2990299. Ask for Laura; really helpful lady.

I think it's one of those times when bending the law might be justified. One could probably fax a copy of the ncb to both insurers. The fact is that you can only drive one car at a time, the risk is no greater to them they are just ripping you off.

Alternatively a bloke working for me rang quinn and they quoted him 750, he told them he had been quoted half that with someone else and if they could match it he would go ahead, he said they did so it's worth a try.
