    Hi,
I'll move to Dubin next month, as I found a job in Bray.
That's the first time I come in Ireland so I'd like some help to find a living place :
I'd like to be 30mn maximum from Bray by car (on peak-times) and walking distance to a Luas or DART station.

What places should I choice ?
On Dublin's map, I saw Bray (of course...), Shankill, Loughlintown, Ballybrack, Killiney, Dalkey and Dun Loaghaire on DART line, and Sandyford on Luas.
Do all this towns respect my standards ?
Would you have other suggestions ?
And, which place would you advise me ?

Many questions there, in an approximate English... sorry about that ;)

I'd suggest somewhere on a dart line when you're looking at bray. I know you said you'll be driving to work, but it's always good to have an alternative.
That would rule out Loughlinstown, Ballybrack and Sandyford from your list.
Killiney and Dalkey would be my suggestions, maybe Shankill if you want to be a little closer to Bray.
All of the areas you've listed are fairly good areas. Killiney and Dalkey especially.
Dun Laoghaire is a good bit more north, very handy for Dublin city, but probably about a 40 minute dart journey from Bray.

Check daft.ie for accommodation. You'll find quite a difference in prices from one area to another.

Thanks for this informations. I'll try to focus my research on the Shankill-Killiney-Dalkey axis.

Another question if i may : I searched for hours a Dublin bus map on internet.
Where could I find it ?
(saw mkmap.com, but that's less easy to use than a global map - I think)

Ha, i've search years for a proper dublin bus map. Good luck in your search:)

Just to give you an idea with the bus route. The main one between dublin city centre and bray (the 145 bus) is by the stillorgan road, bray road, off the N11 roundabout onto dublin road (through shankill), castle street, main street and then quinsborough road in bray. It runs very regularly and has bus corridors to drive through for most of the journey, which means it can avoid the traffic you would be stuck in if you were driving yourself.

There's this wonderful resource by boards' very own xeducat but it's a few years old at this stage.

There was a project underway here in the Computers & Technology forum but it's fairly out of date also.

South of Bray you have Greystones, which is quite a nice place. The Greystones and Charlesland forum under Wicklow may be able to offer some advice.

Personally, I would steer towards Dalkey - DunLaoghaire area because you closer to the City, but that also means it is more expensive.

Greystones is indeed lovely (thanks Fred).

Shankill is pretty handy alright, just off the M50/N11, very good options for public transport and you could walk to Bray from there if you were so inclined. Traffic on the Dublin Road into Bray can be pretty bad most of the day, but particularly in the mornings and evenings.

Dun Laoghaire is only 25 mins from Bray on the Dart and the drive takes about the same amount of time. It ticks all your boxes and also has a wide variety of accommodation available to suit any price range. Monkstown would be only 2 more minutes on the dart and is closer to the city too.

Dalkey and Killiney would be more expensive for accommodation and the public transport options from those areas are not nearly as good. If there are no darts, then you're stuck as the bus service is quite limited to these areas relative to the likes of Shankill or Dun Laoghaire.

Bray is a pretty big area and has three exits from the N11 serving it. What part of Bray are you likely to be working in?

Thank you all for all this informations.
I begin to discover the aera thanks to you.

Shankill seems to be the perfect place, close to Bray and Dublin by DART.

I will work to the west side of N11, which is why I intend to use my car (it does not appear to have bus stations on this side of Bray).

    Hi,

Just saw this thread. I live in Sandyford and work in Bray - I don't have a car but there's a private bus company (Finnegans) that runs a service from Bray to the Sandyford Luas and back. http://www.finnegan-bray.ie/index_files/Page1955.htm

Make sure you're clear about your lifestyle choices - if you live along the DART line you can get into dublin easily enough, but the DART stops at around 11pm, and after that you're looking at a hefty taxi fare to get back home.

Not a problem if you intend on staying in/socialising within the Bray area, but if you'd like to mix with the city crowd then living along the Luas line would be much better IMO - it ends at 1230am, and you're closer to town so a taxi won't cost you more than 20 euro.

Just my 2 cents' worth :)

Just throwing this out, but I work in bray and commute from Tallaght. It actually takes me about 1/2 an hour to get in on the M50, half an hour home, leaving about 6ish.

I certainly wouldn't recommend it if you can get a closer location, but it's not the worst set up in the world.
