Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know your going along with what Ronnie and that are saying but I don't really.

Like they know they can get beaten badly by Spain if they try to attack loads. They just don't want that to happen.

Ya can't blame them for wanting to play like that.
Anyway it's not like they are getting the ball and playing it back all the time instead of attacking at all.

I just don't see how they are a "disgrace to the tournament".

Marking was poor for the goal

Anyone else massively unimpressed by Mata and Carzola?

Never really wanted him at Anfield anyway.

    Get Riera on.

now maybe Iraq will be forced to attack a bit

    not just this match mate

I painfully watched the SA v iraq match and Iraq were the very against them and in extra time of the SA match, iraq got a free kick near the box but decided to run it into the corner flag instead of trying at least to win the match

    now that's a disgrace

Or even that Silva bloke maybe?

Did ok when he came on as sub the last day.

I "watched" that match aswell and it really was awful, but on both parts. I can't defend them from what you described but they are huge underdogs and just don't want to be humiliated in the competition.

i can understand what they tried to do to spain but trying it against a very poor side in SA really is unforgivable

Nah, don't want to watch what we can't afford to buy!

Just seems incredibly pointless. Its a nothing tournement, rather then go out and enjoy the occasion and atmosphere they're pretty much guaranteeing they fail. Would be much better off just going out, treating it like the friendly warm up for the world cup that it is and enjoying it. Have a bit of a go, actually try and play some football, get some attacks going, generate some excitement...

    actually liverpool can keep Torres

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

and as if by magic on comes Silva.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

Hmm interesting - Silva on the right

Come on bring on Riera on the left.

How Mata is still on the pitch is a mystery definition of pedestrian.

His main job today appears to be trapping the ball and passing it back into midfield, followed by drifting into a central role to add to the congestion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,680 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

    mata still on ffs

    How bad is torres today

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The whole team underperformed apart from Alonso and the keeper.

    Casillas.
He's relatively new onto the scene

Casillas really had nothing to do. Would have said Pique had an ok game minding the house but overall a poor performance by Spain. In fairness they won their last two games 5-0 and 6-0.

    Yeah, can't wait.

USA are actually a very decent team. They go into every match believing they can get something out of it. I love their attitude.

Another fascinating match in the 2009 Confederations Cup. Two countries more suited to the oval ball, but it should be a good spectacle nonetheless. The Tri-nations champions versus the Afrikaners......... Let's hope they don't follow their natural instinct to pick up the ball and run towards the other team at full pelt........ Leave that sort of stuff to Jonah Lomu & Co.

McBride probably drilled it in to the players whenever he was on international duty.

That man epitomised workrate and belief.

Our lads seem to manage to resist the urge to bring sticks onto the pitch whenever they play.

They dont seem to be able to resist hoofing the ball over the bar though.....

God I'm going deaf or mad. Not sure which yet. If this is going to be the norm then the presentation is going to have to be tweaked, commentary in a room off a monitor with a "crowd" track mixed in!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,680 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

maybe im getting used to it but the noise isnt bad today

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,879 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

yep not sure if im getting used to it or if its just not as bad now. Atleast from the sounds of things its just the SA football fans custom and wouldent be happening at non SA world cup games or atleast not the ones that dont need the locals to make up the majority of the crowd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

I'm only half watchign and keep thinking I'm missing goals, the crowd are very excitable. Going mad when players touch the ball.

Giving out free flags or horns or anything for that matter should be banned everywhere.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,879 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

hahaha Blatter made a statement about the horns! which apparently are banned at the Rugby matches over there
