wow, no don't do that. i'd have to get a job!
And a haircut, which I'm sure is an equally terrifying prospect :pac:

Seriously though, trailerparkboy never lost 14k on an online poker site. There's far too much troll feeding going on in this thread.

There is far more money being lost in Ireland through sports betting in bookmakers shops up and down the country. I take it trailerparkboy you think all bookmakers shops should be banned then too?

Don't worry TPboy you still have enough money to haggle for snackboxes and spicy wedges!
Well i admit im a big thight with money and so what i ask you. For example i will never go to the cinema at night just during the day so i can get it cheaper, will never buy coke or popcorn there will buy it at the nearest tesco beforehand. I will never pay for a bag at the supermarket never even if i have to walk 2 miles with shooping in my arms.
Also i will never ever get a taxi home on nights out i always walk home and that takes me a hour and a half to 2 hours, i just dont beleive in wasting money on taxis, before i go home i might get some chips which i haggle for in the chiper usually only pay 1 euro when they are 2 euro, and if i go to the local spar or centra and want wedges i dont ask for a portion i ask for 10 wedges which i get for 80 cent always the same price because they know me and laught at it, wheras the person who orders a portion gets maybe 12 to 13 wedges and pays 2 euro for it so basically im making a good saving.

My gut feeling is if people want to play poker, have some mates round or go to a casino.
I simply dont trust electronic gambling, it must be fairly open to abuse or unfair programming - i.e. the dealer is weighted to win

The Government won't ban online poker until they win all our money back that they lost on offline gambling.

If I want to take my money out the back, wipe my arse with it and set it alight, I can.

If you're throwing away your food money on poker then I think it's safe to say that if poker had never been invented you would be throwing your food money away on something else instead.

Loving the ignorance in this thread. It's heartwarming.

IN the u.s.a they have banned poker and yesterday they started seizing money from online poker players accounts who play from america.

    source?

    Who are "they"?
Which part of the USA?.... all of it? Just the state of Nevada? (bummer)
Or just some mormon village in Utah

Will the world series of Poker still go ahead

    That wouldn't solve anything.

We have to address the root of the problem of both gambling and drinking. Ban Irish people.

I propose we ban idiots and all associated forms of idiocy thus regulating the people who seem unable to regulate themselves...

    ..rabble rabble..

Looks like you have fallen foul of the old gambling bug before but why should the government regulate someones addiction for them?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,236 ✭✭✭Dannyboy83

While I can sympathise with the OP's point, I can't agree to anything which curtails our freedom even more.
We have enough of it already tbh.

If you have an addiction, you need to get help to deal with it.
    Otherwise, everything is a target.

I read a few stories recently about how young men are addicted to the gym and this is so bad etc.
    Bad in whose eyes tho?
I like being addicted to the gym.
I hate alcohol and don't drink it, but I don't feel I have a right not to tell anyone else they can't drink.

When people decide how they should live their own lives, this is good.
When people decide how others should live their lives, this is not so good.

Car cause multipe people to die every week , so let ban them. Smoking kills people every day so that one is easy. I don't even need to make a case for baning drink.

People lost far more money on the stock market over the last 12 months than ever did on poker. Banned.

Anglo lost the country more than any poker player ever did , so lets ban banks.

    ....etc...etc...etc...

Best quote of the day!! lol

At OP. Why can't you comprehend that most people can play poker quiet happiily without getting addicted. I feel bad you lost so much money but that's your own fault. Why ban poker as a result!

I happily started off with €50 and I've been playing away with it for the last two years playing for recreation maybe 10 tables a week.

People will still gamble with or without online poker! What next, alcohol, horseracing, bingo, the national lottery, euromillion!?

Every person is in control of there own destiny.

Its making choices sometimes you make good ones then sometimes bad ones!
Last time i'm gambled twas 1997 and on Dorans Pride in the GoldCup i lost a tenner and was gutted swore i'd never do it again and have not done it!

If I was in power I'd ban these two. Having this kind of get-rich-quick scheme around is unhealthy for society and IMO has played a minor role in the current financial crisis. The idea that you can become a millionaire instantly needs to be removed from the collective conciousness if we are to avoid future bubbles.

Eh no, he knows how to play poker. You clearly dont

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,639 ✭✭✭PeakOutput

when in fact no one wins only the poker rooms,

i was up 7thousand euro when i stopped so i won

you clearly have no idea what you are talking about

stopping grown adults doing even more things because some people cant control themselves is not the way to go, the exact opposite in fact is true

IN the u.s.a they have banned poker and yesterday they started seizing money from online poker players accounts who play from america. This is great news, poker is gambling and all froms of gambling should be banned espically poker as it now has become a serious addiction here in Ireland thanks to the media and people saying its not gambling but a skill, these peole are delusional compulsive gamblers who need help before they end up with nothing. The fact is if you gamble you will eventually end up broke that is for sure. I think we need to lobby the goverment to ban online poker in Ireland as its causing so much pain to the addicted people and there loved ones.

Yeah just like they banned alcohol in the 20s..that really worked.

Unregulated and easy access to guns does a lot more damage to people than poker and this is where the contradiction in the USA baffles me.

If people want to get hooked on online poker thats their problem.

What about the National Lottery? A great scheme for the Government to get its social welfare back off the poor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,639 ✭✭✭PeakOutput

A compulsive gambler can loose a unlimited amount of money in a hour whereas a drug user or drinker can only spent so much money on drinking.

    haha you are clearly clueless

Go away:rolleyes:Just because a small minority of players become addicted, just because they cant control themselves the majority of players have to suffer?

You lost €14,000 playing poker and you're blaming the government for it? Will you be looking for the government to bail you out too?
