I can see the headlines now on the front cover of the Hindustani Times from New Delhi in large block letters: MADDISON CONFUSES PAKISTAN WITH INDIA!

Yeah cause me being geographically thick is far more important than the banks being in the s*its, child abuse, war, apartheid etc etc.....:D

... The problem is that I always pay around the 7th of the month (or my nearest pay day to it) and it takes 3 days to go through because I pay through the post office but, without fail, every month around this time I get an harassment phone call from them "reminding" me that it's been a month since my last payment and it pisses me off! :)

Simple, pay it 3 days earlier and you wont be annoyed by any foreigners.

10 days....hang on, is this a trick question, aren't they the same place?

I am getting the same calls from, and I have no problems saying it, MBNA.

They said they can Laser Card payments and I told them I didnt have it with me and then they asked for the details of somebody who has access to my Laser Card so they could make a payment for me...

I told them I would pay in a few weeks when I had extra cash around..then they asked why I had missed my last payment and I told them I was busy...

They keep pronoucing my name wrong which is annoying. They sound more Eastern European to me.

My brother works for MBNA/Bank of America calling people like you (he is not an eastern european btw). They are based in Carrick on Shannon. He deals primarily with England and hassling people over there into paying their debts. Very stressful job as you can see from some of the posts on here people don't like getting calls. Brother can make upto 40/50 calls on a good day. Thats a hell of a lot of aggro to hear being screamed down the line at you. Its usually people who have lost their jobs and owe thousands on their cards, although some people are just stupid and don't bother paying or get thick when asked why they are not repaying their debts. One fella in England owed GB£120,000 on his card and was unemployed and separated from his wife and 3 kids. Interest rates must be raping him as well as child support. He started crying down the phone to my brother, poor sod!

Basically its a ****ty job having to make these calls trying to get the Banks money back from these people. Some of the excuses are laughable and at the end of the day this is going to make a total and utter mess of your credit rating. You will be black listed and unable to get credit again for years. No credit card, no car loans, no mortgage. Telling them you were too "busy" to pay your bills is not very smart is it? Do you think they/the Bank are going to be more sympathetic to your plight after that? Once they start playing hard ball it's too late and you will have collection agencies calling to your door and not just your phone.

No point taking it out on the person ringing you either. Its your problem not theirs, that you owe money and can't/won't repay it.

Actually I thought that too, thanks for clearing that up ;) As regards the "Ignorance" comment as I said this had nothing to do with the people of Pakistan/India, I only mentioned it because the language barrier makes these calls so difficult. It was to do with credit card companies constantly harassing you. It wouldn't have matter the nationallity of the person who called because I'd have done it anyway because I was pissed off with the unnessassary harrassment

+1 sorry now, but I have to agree with this.

I once worken in a call centre that was handling calls for a scottish company. We were all giving very long training sessions on how to speak with a scottish accent, so as not to anger the scots with our Irish accents.

Needless to say this annoyed me. Now at the time it annoyed me because I coudn't bloody do it. But now it annoys me at the over PC-ness of it all. Sorry, but the fact of the matter is when an Irish person calls an Irish company about an Irish product, is it too much to ask that the person on the other end of the phone can speak english??

Its not racism, its a simple fact. I have very good spanish, I have spanish friends that I speak to every day of the week. I was working in a call centre and wasn't allowed to work in the spanish call dept because I wasn't 100% fluent. So should it not be a rule for one,a rule for all?

If only you could apply this geographic location ability that spans over a 1000 milles to a smaller scale, like say 5 inches, and actually locate the clitoris there'd be a lot more happy women in the world.

I know they border each other (do you not think I googled it after my mistake was first pointed out?) but I knew I could fish for one pedantic that would have to say it

Oh and by the way since we're all playing pedant today "Once again you are showing our lack of knowledge..." I didn't realise we were a tag team in stupidity, I was under the impression I worked alone...

I would never give my security details over the phone to anyone who rings. Banks/Credit card companies surely dont ask for these details when calling you do they? Obviously if you call them up, they have to but them calling you? Its madness. Could be anyone

Yep, they ring you on a number that shows up as "Unknown" on your phone and then ask you for details you gave when you first signed up for their services and, as you say, it could be anyone. It's mad that everyone says never give out personal info but that's what you are doing if you give it out to these callers. Besides from the fact that I was taking the piss out of frustration she still couldn't prove who she was and since it's my account I should be able to ask for proof of their identity too before I prove mine since they rang me or I could have been giving that info to anyone so why should I? It's like someone knocking on your door and saying they are from the gas company and before they can look at your lines can you just prove to them that you are who you say you are and then when you ask them for ID they say "No, you first"...It's your ****ing house/phone whatever so why should you have to prove yourself to someone who contacts you first?

I work in a bank call centre and sometimes I have to make an outbound call to a customer for a variety of reasons. Before I can discuss the customers account I have to verify that I am speaking to the account holder, I have no way of knowing who is answering your phone, could be a childminder, cleaner, friend etc so we ask security questions, name, address DOB bla bla bla.

Sometimes (about half of the time) the customer wont answer the questions becuase they dont know who I am. Thats fair enough, what happens then is I ask them to call us back. Not answering doesnt "mess with my head" in fact it makes my job easier cause when he calls back in chances are he will end up speaking to someone else and I dont have to listen to the lies and excuses as to why he hasnt paid his bill on time.

And to all the people who dont want to answer the questions what would you prefer? That the agent just starts talking to whoever answer the phone about your personal financial details?

(Pakistan in India? Japan in China? no wonder the county is going to the dogs)

Why should I call back? that costs me phone credit so as far as I'm concerned it's you who want to talk to me not me who wants to talk to you so it's up to you to prove your identity to me not the other way around otherwise I can assume it's a lie. Your "Standard questions" are asked of everyone so everyone knows that they are the standard questions so anyone can ring and ask you them.

I can take a pool of 50 random mobile numbers and say I'm from {Credit Cad company} and ask those questions and 49 may say that it's a wrong number but 1 (and that's all I'd need) could be a customer and I could bleed them for everything and all it'd have cost me is 10 euro in phone credit to get the pesonal details of someone that I could then transfer cash from their account to mine. Your system is flawed!

It would take a bit more than that, unless they gave you pin numbers as well and anyone that gives that out, even after verifying themselves or the person calling them, deserves to have their money taken because they clearly aren't intelligent enough to handle it themselves.

Oh and being with an Operator that charges 10 euro for a 5min call, no wonder you need other peoples money so badly! :pac:

You're half right. You shouldn't answer any questions unless you are happy that it is the CC co. calling you, you can set up a safe word that the CC co. will quote to you when/if they call or you can ask them sensible questions but theres no need to be smart about it and asking them to tell you your security details is just stupid, again I'll ask the question what if someone else answered your phone and the CC co. told them all your details. You'd be up in arms.

It works both ways and both parites have to be careful who they divulge information to and pissing of a credit card co. that you owe money to isn't a particularly clever thing to do especially if you plan on applying for a loan anytime soon.

Number 1: There is no one in my life that would answer my phone without my permission.
Number 2: I have no plans on ever asking them (or anyone else) for a loan.
Number 3: They still cold call, like it or not they still ask for details that give specific access to your account from a number that shows up on your phone as UNKNOWN...tell me exactly why I should trust that?
