Hey need some advice. I want to buy a car have a budget of around 7 or 8 thousand. Really would love a diesel passat i really love those cars always have but so far all ive been to see are timewasters both private sellers and dealers. I would settle for a ford mondeo but it is hard to find either in good condition without crazy mileage. Would a 1.8 petrol be madness to buy - i will be doing a fair bit of travelling - im not sure. Anyone any advise??? Please!!!:D:D

from 03 to 06 in mondeo and 03 to 04 in passats - im more concerened bout lower mileage than the year if ye know what i mean.

Define what you mean by "low" mileage. There's plenty of mondeos about that fit your criteria.

saw a passat in dublin for 7,000 euro with 55 thousand miles on it one owner not sure of any warranty

For that sort of money I would be inclined to stick with a mondeo or focus, you could also pick up a nice octavia

Im admitting defeat and giving up hope on buying a passat - if i drop my price to 5 or 6 thousand what could i get? nothing too small like a micra - something that looks good but reliable. petrol or diesel - 4 door - any year with alright mileage - any suggestions???

Though I'd say ya'd get a Passat cheap down the country, plenty of farmers trading them in. Have ya tried Al Hayes? He's always good for VW's & you can haggle too!

I've had 3 mates bought off him, Golf TDI, Bora & a Transporter, all got a few quid off, just didn't get any extras thrown in.
