MYSQL bin files

Whats the deal with these files? I just noticed today that they are taking up about 10Gb of my hard drive. Files like mysql-bin.000012, mysql-bin.000013, etc....Are they needed for something or can I delete them all except for the last created one?

They're binary log files for your databases. You can get rid of them through MySQL

So can I just delete them all with windows explorer? Are they necessary for backup, should I keep the last one or two that was created?

That info in that link is a bit convoluted, it doesn't really explain clearly why I should/shouldn't delete them.
