Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

However happy I should be espically considering I support Liverpool.. I'am not.

The thought of players like Benzema and Ribery signing for United is quite sickening to think about and if not them possible Eto'o or Villa.

They'll certainly get one of Benzema and Ribery... hopefully it's the latter.

My sentiments exactly!! I have always felt that United would be better off in the long term without him...

Utd gonna have to sign a free kick specialist, read somewhere before that he scores 1 in 4.

    Unbelieveable

I'd say the next Classico will be one of the most eagerly awaited domestic matches in a very long time. The amount of pressure on Pellegrini now to perform will be unreal.

1 in 3 I thought though my memory is hazy.

1 in 3 or 1 in 4 is ridiculous ronaldo is not a free kick specialist at all in the slightest, at all. He hits the wall or the stands more times than not he scores maybe 3 a season or 4 at a push and given the united play at OT he gets how many frees. i'll guess millions give or take one or two

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,373 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

I have no idea where to begin. Ronaldo is a huge loss to Man U. I also think he went for cheap, should have held out for 100M.
He's practically won the league on his own for the last 3 seasons, last season he and vidic were our best players. It's very easy to say get in two/three players but that won't necessarily fill the gap there.

I know he was frustrating but he is an exceptional football player. And i wish him all the best. He's given me some great memories.

    Viva Ronaldo

Just to move the conversation on somewhat, how do you think Ronaldo will do at Madrid next season?

People might not realise that United built their team around him and create him chance after chance for his clinical finishing to put them away. Will that be the case in Madrid?

Will he be allowed to take free kicks? That's an interesting one :)
I wonder how he'll adopt to the Spanish league.

So Ronaldo is worth 4/5 of Newcastle..Another 20 million and they coulda bought a whole club:pac:

Wonder how many free kicks he will win over the course of the season?:p

I'd imagine the less physical style of play will probably suit him more and the slightly less effective defenses should see him do ok, at the very least.

Of his 26 goals this season 7 were penalties and 5 were free-kicks, so I'd be very surprised if he didn't get to take penalties and a fair whack of the free-kicks as well.

Pretty tough to figure out how things will work in terms of the team setup given so much else depends on who else comes and goes at Real Madrid.

To me the money we got is irrelevant.
It is not a good deal for us.
He wanted to leave and thats the only reason we sold him.
Good luck to him. Hope he does well.

Bloody real madrid - buy 2 of the best 3 players in the
    world in one week....

    You need some new material.

And maybe a club of your own to support rather than spending hours in a United thread hoping they sell players and lose games

Overall, it is worrying when you think of losing Tevez as well as Ronaldo. But, Fergie is not a mug, I can't believe he would sell someone like Ronaldo without having a plan in place. United are bigger than anyone player.

If he wants to go, fine. It might benefit Rooney too. Give him a full season of playing up front, where there is no Ronaldo sideshow. Lets hope all that 80 million, plus our original transfer kitty in invested back in.

You can't argue with that bit of business. Buy him for 12.24 million, get 3 leagues, 1 fa cup and 1 champions league, 2 league cups, sell for 80, and reinvest the profit in the whole squad.

    What about poems?

    Stop singing your songs,
    they're rubbish, not cool,
    they're sad and they're boring,
    just like Liverpool.

    You're songs are as funny
as a lump of brown shite,
    if they were a human,
    they'd be like Dirk Kuyt.

according to F365 http://football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_5374417,00.html Barcelona finance director said after madrid have bought ronaldo
"I can assure you that we will not pay 65million euros for a player.
"For that amount we would buy the whole Barcelona team that won the Champions League in Rome."

 he mustn't think much of the current squad! maybe their are bargains to be had. messi for 10mil then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,430 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

oh well, the day I never thought would happen (at least not this Summer) is here. I'd feel a lot worse if Ronaldo wasn't such a piece of crap but whether I like it or not he has been the main man at the club for the past few seasons and he has been a great servant to the club.

Hopefully now we get Ribery and maybe a new striker/DM/AM and I don't think we'll skip a beat but teams are going to take us to town on the transfer fees even more than they usually do now

Maybe he ment that is how much they spent.

Don't know if it is true though.

Valdes, Puyol, Sergio, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi were all free. How much did Sylvinho, Pique, Toure, Henry, Eto'o cost them?

Well La Liga will be 'The' league to watch next season.
Its a mouthwatering prospect to see if Real can topple Barca.

feck, I was told this in the afternoon, I was hoping people were just having me on.

it doesn't look good though. although I can see the benefits to his departure, you just never feel good about letting a player of that quality leave, no matter what the price.
