You and 30 other counties (disincluding Mayo of course). Thats a good Galway line-out though. I'm pretty confident and I'll probably put a few bob on a Galway win.

Whoever wins this will get the All-Ireland semi-final spot

If Joe Canning plays well, maybe Kilkenny by 15 or so.

The Kilkenny attack is going to absolute destroy that Galway defence.

Maybe, but the Galway forwards can be good to enough to do the same at the far end. We conceded 4-18 in 2005 and still won, and yes I know that's 4 years ago and Galway haven't done anything like it since, but there is no doubt they have the ability to, if things go well. :)

Cyber in fairness all Galways threat is in the one line on the field from 1 - 12 Ollie Canning and John Lee are the only ones that would make the KK panel and Canning is no spring chicken and Lee missed most of the year due to study commitments ( could you imagine Tommy Walsh doing that and Cody starting him first game back ).

Now having said all that KK have problems of their own aswell and they're midfield doesnt look the strongest and off course if Galways FF line get going they can be very hard to stop. Personally I just cant see them getting enough ball for it to count though.

    KK by 6-9 points imo.

The corner forwards blow hot and cold, and while I like Andy Smith the center forward line looks likely to get taken to the cleaners. Joe Canning it is really.

Yeah, but Canning nearly beat Cork on his own last year. If he had a bit of help it would have been over at half-time and it's not as if John Tennyson has never been taken to the cleaners in the past, by a certain member of the Galway forward line.

True what you are saying about the half-forward line though. Smith and Callanan, while they are good hurlers are not the type of players that are going to unsettle Walsh and Delaney (as I assume Dalton will be moved back in to take care of Canning). Walsh and Delaney are deceptively good in the air even though they are not giants. Aerial prowess is something missing in the Galway half-forward line. We will miss Chunky (Kevin Hayes) sorely on Saturday. Donnellan is good under high ball but doesn't offer the same presence as Hayes and Smith and Callanan are not so much ball winners as finishers, of which we have to many in Galway.

Spoke to Galway GAA Council earlier, tickets are selling steady however it won't be a sell out and they'll be selling terrace tickets outside the ground tomorrow afternoon/evening before the game.

I think Smith is the perfect type of player to unsettle Walsh as he is the kind of person that doesn't know when a ball is a lost cause and will chase down everything. He just doesn't give up and Walsh won't enjoy having him up his hole all evening. And when he gets a chance he's able to finish too.

Great to see 5 Portumna men in the starting line. I remeber a lot was written on another Gaa forum site that there would only be 3 at best.

Your right Portumna, im from north Galway and I think they're a great team. I do have a friend or two from the team so a little biased. What annoys me is the inter town/parish rivalry that goes on in Galway. Fair play to Portumna and the team they have I say, I think its great if all Galway teams were like that and if they could play together we'd be unstoppable.. kinda like KK.

Agh, yes, but I'm not disputing that. My point is can he unsettle Walsh under high ball. I think the the key to stopping Kilkenny is stopping Walsh. We seen that in 2007 when Tannian stopped him until he was taken off with a few minutes to go.

I hope this isn't a dig at me by the way. I have nothing against Portumna. I'm happy to see any Galway team win.

Nope Cyber, not a dig at all. I havent been following your threads. Just a comment on what I noticed. I mean we have great hurlers I'd love to see them get together and make an attack on the all-ireland

Wouldn't we all. I think at this stage, people just want to see somebody knock Kilkenny off their perch.

TBH if I was Galway I'd just get the five biggest club hurlers in the county into the midfield and center forward line, push the center forward line right up next to the midfielders and tell them to hit everything that moves in black and amber. I'm sure the tactics will be something like that anyway.

None of the Galway team are very big. Kevin Hayes would probably one of the biggest around the middle and he is suspended for this one. Hynes and Lynch in midfield wouldn't be known for their physicality, neither would any of the half-forward line. I guess we're f**ked then? ;)

if Galway adopt tactics like those then they will be hammered. You need skill in addition to power, actually it's skill you need #1.
I wonder will the rest of the Galway team actually stand up and help young Canning this time, not like their pathetic display against Cork when Joe was on his own!

The Cats to win if they stick to their game and not get drawn into a brawl.

i things needed for galway to win

    1)joe canning at his best

2)team support for canning unlike that pathetic display against cork last year

3)stuck in and prepared to stop kilkenny playing hurling at all costs . if kilkenny are allowed time and space on the ball they'll run riot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 260 ✭✭portumna

I know you'll all say that im seeing this from a Portumna bias but i believe this to be true.

Smith has a good hand on him too but i wouldn't imagine he'll be using it much as i'd presume that McIntyre will have it drilled into his half forward line to move the ball quickly and pull on it in the air.

Lynch is 6'3" and won't get knocked off the ball easily. I know when watching him it sometimes floats around the field standing straight up but thats just the way he hurls. When he has to get stuck in he does. He won't shy away from the physical side of things as i'm sure none of the Galway lads will after watching what Tipp nearly managed to do in the League final.

So for example the No. V 25 and 26 on my tickets doesn't mean I'll be in row V in the "Unreserved stand"? Shock.

One of these tickets is now spare if anyone wants to pm me to meet outside the ground beforehand.

Is Adrian Cullinane playing? I know a few people are saying that Canning was on his own last year against Cork, but I thought Cullinane had a good game. If Galway play like Tipp did in the League Final anything is possible. It will be a great game to watch!

So how do you suggest a team can beat Kilkenny?

From a Neutral (Wexford) perspective, I hope its a good game, a typical pulsating Leinster hurling game, and a Connaught win !!!!!!!!!!:p
/some 'afters' there from Walsh ! but good save from Ryan.
    Go on Cannnnnning

Could i just declare my undying love for All things Joe Canning 1-03 after 5 minutes.
    What a player.

Also, Tommy Walsh, is a disgrace. A dirty hit into the back of Galway's number 13, is one dirty stroke too many.

Great goal...but what the hell was that hand thing Canning did after? Where does he think he is?! Old Trafford?!

Good start for Hayes also must say.

Joe Canning. Absolutely unreal start. Ther Summer's finally lighting up after a slow start!

Ooooh this could be an interesting game !
The pace of this one compared to the Wat-Lim is well........league versus championship !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,706 ✭✭✭premierstone

What a game already can they keep this pace up?? Canning is a class act and even though Ive defended him many times that sly dig from Tommy Walsh was very cowardly

Ref could have given Galway the advantage there. Would be in for a goal.

Same ref that stoped Eoin Kelly when in on goal and then pulled back Cork when they had the ball in the net - I wont give my true opinion of the man as i dont want to get banned but lets just say he's not my favourite ref in the world

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,708 ✭✭✭Erin Go Brath

Some ferocious challenges going in. Not all of them 'legal' either. Tommy Walsh is a very dirty player.

    Tommy 'hellicopter' Walsh !!

A lot of yellows, but most deserved. Some hard pulls out there.
Tommy Walsh again with a sly one into the Galway players hand.

Edit: Lucky Lucky Boy. 20 seconds after getting a yellow, he pulled the Galway 12 down through on Goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 448 ✭✭GymJim

At last...Tommy Walsh gets the yellow for yet another cowardly stroke. Really is a disgrace such a talented player consistently resorts to this crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,706 ✭✭✭premierstone

How is he still on the field grow a pair ref ffs

I don't know what to say. 2 goals in 2 mins just after Tommy Walsh should have been sent off...very cowardly of ref to not get out second yellow. If that was in soccer would have been professional foul and straight red anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,708 ✭✭✭Erin Go Brath

I agree guys. The ref has bottled it big time not sending Tommy off.

Its not soccer and theres no such thing as a professional foul in GAA but yes agreed he should not be on the field infact he should have been gone before that incident if the ref or either of he's umpires had seen the first hit on Hayes

Thanks for that it's amazing I hadn't noticed it wasn't soccer that's being played.

I'm well aware it's not I was pointing out that he took the man out when in on goal. Under GAA rules that is minimum yellow and ref bottled it.
