Friends have Kid on the way - get married or not? Neither seem to care either way

What are the advantages / disadvantages / implications for the child?

Tax wise for the couple? He is self employed, she is working paying PRSI for last 5 years
In the event of her stopping working in the future, tax wise would she be better being "single" versus the govt looking at his books? (He doesnt make much)
