It's fine, sunny Sundays aren't meant for Street Fighting ;)

Me, HMUYA + TheWitch had some matches. Doom dropped in, too.

    Oh yeah. Abel's LK PWNS.

just heard of this from chopperbyrne on SRK, sounds interesting.

i've only been to one tournament at the xgc, nd the PS3 guys were terribly mismanaged.

if the PS3 pools are properly managed (double elimination) then i'd definitely like a shot at this!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,229 ✭✭✭Dreddybajs

That was the stuff that was officially organised (badly) by the guys who run the XGC Icarian, all tournaments now are being run by us boardsies and the PS3 and 360 people are in the same tournament.

ah, in that case, i would love to join! i assume at just 5 euro ahead, its just for fun, no cash prizes? i play a pretty good zangief, and it's pretty hard to find any challenging opponents online, so this could be cool!

btw where do you guys go for drinks afterwards?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,237 ✭✭✭Owwmykneecap

Most weeks people meet up on Saturdays for about 4 hours 2-6pm region and just play for fun.
    costs about €5 a head.

Every now and then Tournaments are on too and will cost an extra €5 or €10 to join.
They'd take place during such a session and format would depend on who organises it and general consensus etc.

Tournies will have prizes but the rest of the time its just for a bit of a laugh/socialising/leveling up.

There is a pub nearby called prada that does good pints for €4, (my local at home is €6 after 11 the *****) but it stunk last day i was there.
I'm sure there are plenty of options.

Some people go nearly every week, people out of town and broke like myself not so much.

thanks for the info, I'll probably just head up when theres guranteed to be a big crowd. I'm from out of town too, I'd have to get the bus up from wexford, so thats 25 euro minimum, more for food and drinks, can't really afford that every week

Just to let you know the current format of the tournaments uses both Xbox 360's and PS3's. The users of the the different consoles are not separated.

However the majority of play takes place on the Xbox 360's due to the majority of the player base being Xbox 360 based.

If both players agree to play on a PS3 then a PS3 is used but if not the Xbox 360's are used and basically the PS3 users are forced to borrow a stick or a pad.
Not an ideal solution but most people are okay with this, only 1 or 2 people I know of had an issue with it, largely because the where pad users and switching from a PS3 pad to an Xbox pad is pretty awkward. But at the moment there is little else we can do.

Ideally we would prefer to run it on a PC to allow everyone to use the controller of there choice but that isn't possible at this venue.

Casuals we just play on whatever we choose. I'm a PC/PS3 user myself but thankfully I know people with the same stick on the Xbox that I have for the PS3 so I'm okay.

Just reading your last post Icarian and I'm in a similar position. I'm from Westmeath so its abit of trek to get to Dublin for casuals so I only rarely attend the casuals. But since I'm the organizer of the tournaments now I'm always at them.

Now that you mention it, PC would be ideal, since you could use PS3/360 or usb controllers, im sure the XGC has some gaming standard PC's too.

tbh, i don't like the sound of using a 360 controller, it happened at a Fibbers tournament and I kept forgetting the d pad and analog are in opposite positions. I've never used a stick, but if anyone brings a Mad Catz fightpad I guess I could use that without much trouble.

Yeah Kirby uses a Madcatz fightpads and I think a few others on the Xbox 360 and I'm sure you could borrow one with no issues.

Its an unfortunate situation but there isn't an alternative. Thankfully the lanparty.ie Street Fighter 4 tournament will be run on PC so everyone will be catered for at that event.

The problem with that is that all the PC's are downstairs and generally used by people just browsing the net etc and all the consoles are upstairs. Downstairs would be really akward due to it getting crowded by our numbers. There wouldn't be space for us.

Although I do agree that the PC is the ideal system.

I always bring my Xbox Madcatz pad with me to the meetups incase anyone wants to use it (I don't use it myself) so you're more than welcome to it if I'm there.

good stuff! sure in that case i'll just borrow a fightpad off one of you guys!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,748 ✭✭✭Cunny-Funt

Icarian, just to clarify, do you use a madcatz fight pad on your ps3? Or are you a PS3 pad player?

Cause if your a ps3 pad player, switching to a fight pad for a tourney or casual even will damage your game unless your used to the pad. Button layout is not the same and this game has a lot to do with muscle memory.

As a (currently) ps3 pad player if I'm in a tourney, I can pretty much only play on a ps3 and so anyone who has to play me, has to play on the ps3. As most people uses sticks this is generally not a massive problem, but theres also guys that play using the 360 pads and so if we have to play each other, we're ****ed.

However I have SF4 on my laptop and I can bring that in as I've done it before to play 3rd strike.

Theres also something else I recently thought of, one of the lads here uses a ps2 to 360 converter. (chopperbyrne) if I'm not mistaken, this should mean a ps1 pad (which I have) would work with it too, meaning I/we could use that to play against 360 people (if choppers not using it at the time) as its got the same button layout.

So there is alternatives. & imo the attitude of "you play on a ps3 with a ps3 pad? haha your screwed, you should have got a stick or a 360" is not the only option.

I have a 360 and ps3 fightpad if you want to borrow it. No problem there.

But has Cunny said, a couple of the lads use converters so im sure we could sort something out for you to use your pad of choice. :)
